Wow, my noob ass got featured, I must say I did not expect that to happen, but yeah, this was a pretty rare outcome and in my short and uneventful career it was the second draw ever and first one I played an active role to achieve. If I remember correctly the Nevsky played really well and ended up at the top of the score board.

This was a rare draw. I was the captain of that Plymouth that got killed by fire :-) Your Nevsky did well, and the reason for his "fuck up" was my semi successful gamble on luring him towards us in the end of the game, hoping for our Soyuz to step up and disrupt/kill you in the Hinden when you would counter my move... Which Soyuz didn`t do, he chose to stay in cover. Gambled for a win, ended up with a draw, as would be the most likely outcome anyways :-) GG!

Jingles, You need to remember the old old days. There used to be game mode that required you to cap the one enemy base or kill EVERY enemy ship. Points were irrelevant unless you had 0 or 1000. If you didn't cap or win because of those point totals it was a tie. I remember the first few months of the game I had a 10% tie rate. Surviving DDs would just run and hide to deny the enemy a victory. Ties were basically a defeat as far as xp and money were concerned.

The thing I liked about it was the superstructure design. The Wyoming and the New Mexico have these flat structures with balconies (kind of like the Iowas), where the other USN BBs just have towers and masts sticking out. Looking at the tech tree, it's almost like the ship designers couldn't decide what was better between each generation while going back-and-forth on ideas (South Carolina gets lattice masts, Wyoming gets small tripod ones, New York gets two tall lattice ones, New Mexico is flat and finally Colorado / West Virginia get the lattice, though the Colorado loses it with the B Hull). My biggest regret is not having an Arkansas, I'd play the shit out of that if I had one.

In fairness to the Standards, their low speed didn't make them so useless as is often portrayed. The thing about battleship guns was that most everyone had about the same practical range on their weapons because of limits on targeting technology. Your guns might have a theoretical range of 50,000 yards, but if your aiming systems just can't be sure of hitting a ship beyond 25,000 yards, it doesn't really matter so much. Put another way, if you were close enough to have a good chance of shooting a Standard with your battleship guns, the Standard was close enough to shoot back. This is why the Revenge Class and the Standards remained serious and respected threats in the Second World War. You either fought them or your avoided them; you couldn't count your modern fast battleships to use their speed to pick off a Standard safely out of range unless you were in Yamato. I am not saying more speed is not better if you can have it, but in warfare built around Lines of Battle, which gun-armed ships of the Second World War still aimed to do, being slower only matter when the enemy was trying to avoid a fight, because if they wanted a fight, they had to come to you and trade fire regardless of your speed.
@Debbiebabe69
@Debbiebabe69 2 жыл бұрын
You also have to remember the moratorium on BB construction due to the naval treaty - worldwide battleship construction was pretty much halted between the end of the superdreadnought (slow, heavily armoured) and battlecruiser (fast, lightly armoured) era and the first fast battleships (fast and heavily armoured) , there were only really a few Japanese battleships and the RN Nelsons (which were on par with superdreadnoughts for speed), due to this, there was massive improvement at design, techonology, and doctrine levels in battleships, but no actual battleships to put these ideas into practice. When countries actaully started making BBs again, all the jump in technology etc. all came at the same time, hence the old superdreadnoughts looked REALLY slow in comparison to the new fast battleships. Had BB construction not been terminated, it is likely many 'treaty era' battleships would have been built sailing at 25-28, mainly 15 inchers, torpedo resistant, etc.

Point of order, the USS Nevada class were the first of the Standard Class ships. Introducing the "all or nothing" armor arrangement and triple 14" gun turrets. Though the Nevada had super firing twin turrets. The Pennsylvania Class brought the twelve 14" gun armament to the Standard Class which would remain until the USS Colorado class which went up to 16" guns, but with only 8 guns. The USS New Mexico were the 3rd class of Standard Class battleships constructed and introduced the hybrid electric drive to service. The New Mexicos also brought in clipper/Atlantic bow forms to the US battleship design process, setting the hull forms for the next two classes of Standard design.

All the wrong reasons? Absolutely. I'm glad I've not played this game in a long, long time. And technically actually Jingles, a correction, US losses at the Surigao Strait were limited to three PT boats odd from memory. Also, if the research I've done is anything to go by, some of the destroyers were under friendly fire towards the end of the battle. None of the cruisers or battleships suffered any damage. So, not as bloodless as our Gnome overlord has said it was. Still.... why do I hear shotguns?

New Mexicos were the 3rd of the Standard-type, following the Nevada and Pennsylvania-classes. They were the first to be armed with 14"/50 caliber guns. They were followed by the Tennessee-class, which were followed by the Colorado-class.

Just a note on that Bayern it is entirely possible he is experiencing connection issues. I have had this happen to me before and I'm seeing it happen to a lot of players of late where you get disconnected mid match, load the game up but cant get back into the match. You then get the deserter penalty for leaving the match early which turns you pink.

The only ships that were a total loss at Pearl Harbor were Utah a dreadnaught, Arizona and Oklahoma which capsized by the time they flipped it over and refloated her the war was over and was sold for scrap. All other battleships that were sunk were refloated repaired and returned to service some 3 years later.

Hi Jingles. My experience in driving tier 1-5 battleships taught me to get all guns firing at a target by going broadside on. It was only because I watched your video that I knew anything about Citadels and how bad broadsiding is. I think the tier 1-5 experience fails to explain citadels and the problem with them. When I got to tier 6 things were very different because citadels were very much a thing or at least the enemy had guns that made it a thing.

I used to like playing the NM back when it was just it and the Fuso at t6, not so much now. Of course upgrading to the CO back then just made you want to go back to the NM.

The problem is that WOW does not differentiate between the 14" 45 caliber guns of the Arizona and Fuso, and the 14" 50 caliber guns of New Mexico and California. The 14" 50 caliber fired a heavier shell, further, with greater accuracy than the 15" 42 caliber of the Queen Elizabeth class.

You also kind of forgot that the New Mexico actually has one of the best shell velocities(if not the best) out of all the Battleships in game. Her 14" rounds fly faster and flatter than the 16" rounds on the later American BB's and rank comparably to the higher tier velocities of other nations. This makes her real good for smashing through the armour of enemy BB's, but can be trouble when dealing with cruisers.

Interesting fact about NM class, one of her designs concept was to have 8x16 inch guns but was argued that had more chance of hitting a target with 12 guns over 8. So they stayed with her 14 x 12 design.

To be fair Jingles, firing HE from Battleships at Cruisers isn't the worst thing in the world, since ya know firing AP shells at Cruisers is a COIN FLIP as to weather you nuke them out of existence or you get nothing but overpens. Particularly with Light cruisers when showing Broadside. "struggling to find good things about the New Mexico" i can help with that, she has 12 centerline guns (underwhelming as they are) and like the Colorado, SHE THICC! Not impossible to citadel but she can be surprisingly hard to if you don't know how (here's a tip, aim LOW). Besides that, like ya said she is a tier 6 Battleship, cant say i expect much. Anyway its 5 o clock in the morning in Florida, have a nice night/morning.

In reality, the gun was not all that bad. At Surigao Strait, USS Tennessee (BB-43) and USS California (BB-44) reported pattern sizes of 300 to 400 yards (275 to 365 m) for six and nine gun salvos at 20,000 yards (18,300 m), which was not appreciably different than that achieved by the newer battleships during the war.

They had some teething problems initially, but by the time of the war and the 14" Mk 7 gun upgrade, they were quite excellent. In the game they aren't that bad either, questionable consistency aside they have excellent penetration although they can't overmatch higher tier cruisers.

Best thing about really slow BB's is they get you used to looking at the mini map and reading the flow of the game! Now sometimes it does not matter because everything happens on the other side of the map but learning those two skills will make you a vastly better player.

I'm giving this game another shot this weekend because man I love the idea of it. I just can't get the pace down really. I either hang back a bit too much and don't add much to the fight, or I get caught way out of position. I had a good time on that german battleship with beefy secondaries and either american or japanese cruisers that had a ton of HE firepower though. I just hope my ping is better this time around.
