I just watched MwJ 123, where you told the story about the medic who saved 50-100 people in one go. (Which was amazing, by the way. That 75mm of battery armour is the upper belt, covering the secondary battery. The main armament had gunhouses with 300mm faces & rears and 200mm sides & roofs. The barbettes were 300mm, reducing to 225 - 250mm when behind the belt armour. Conning tower was 400mm with a 250mm roof.

six sense is always useful because if you're the last one alive or by your self it allows you to counter the dds you can't see. If you know they're there then you can start turning before you get hit with torps.

Jingles: A comment regarding the Imperator Nikolai I class.Not sure how Wargamming computes the armour on their "paper" ship types, but according to Battleships of World War I, (Anthony Preston, Stackpole Books, 1972), the class in question had 305mm of turret armour, not 76mm as listed in the game class specifications. Granted that may just mean the turret face and roof, but of course, that is most likely where the in bound shells will land.This ship was intended for the Black Sea fleet and was authorized by the Duma in May, 1914.Concurrently, 4 ships of the Borodino class were under construction for the Baltic Sea fleet as part of the 1912 authorization.

As a tip to other destroyer captains, I must say, if you notice Battleship Captains being intelligent and actually turning regardless of detecting torpedoes or not, try staggering your torpedo launches. They might save themselves from one spread, but when you have another spread that'll hit them if they turn, well, you're bound to get some results!

I'll just sort of correct you Jingles, but in a Battleship firing at an Aircraft Carrier, you can use AP rounds if you have good enough distance that the rounds can plunge through the flight deck. The flight deck acts as armour and if the round is small enough (in battleship terms anyway), generally 12 and 14" they can citadel the carrier as they are usually light enough and lose enough pen that the deck slows them down even more and they explode inside. But this does need to be down with plunging fire. So AP does work, just in certain situations.

also according to reddit, the Nikolai is basically impervious to small caliber HE: because of how high it sits in the water and how little superstructure there is to shoot at cruisers will have a hard time setting you on fire

I find the situational awareness skill to be very useful for knowing if there is a destroyer hanging outside of spotting range (particularly toward the end of the game, where I know that no other ships could be spotting me)

Hey Jingles, maybe some bloke said already but, for the russian ships in WoWS, the differential is in the flag: if there is a white flag with a blue X on it, its from the Tsar's navy, but if you find a red star in the bow, it's soviet-made.

I use 6th sense in my battleships to help me see when a DD might be close. They don't always drop smoke before using torps and having that extra info can help me avoid torps better. It feels like a worthwhile investment in any ship.

I have to say the Arkansas Beta is a BEAST at tier IV. Since the end of the closed beta it has become my best ship (although to be fair that's probably because I played it the most while grinding down the tech trees since you only spend a certain amount of time playing each ship, unless you keep them all after you unlock the next, which I don't). But still, the arrangement of the 4 turrets in the aft of the ship allows you to basically run away while keeping 2/3 of your firepower on the enemy while sailing at a very hard angle to penetrate. Provided you have at least one other ship backing you up and taking some of the fire for you you can easily fuck up superior numbers of ships with that thing.

Jingles, you didn't really count when you were talking about the secondary armament, did you? The Ishizuchi shoots 114 HE rounds per minute, the Imperator only shoots 100. And the Ishizuchi has AP as well. The Arkansas Beta shoots 180 so it comes out on top when it comes to HE/ minute. But overall the Ishizuchi has the best secondary armament with 114 HE and 107 AP shots per minute. (221 shots/ min.) You can easily outrun any other BB so they don't even need to be capable of penetrating a BB.

What Jingles basically completely ignored is that, yes the Ishizuchi has only six guns firing HE... but those guns fire at a rate of 19 rounds per minute! If it wasn't for the lower chance to set an enemy on fire, they would be equal. You just get a set of 16 152mm guns in addition. Also I don't agree that those guns can't penetrate enemy battleships. Probably not the citadel but they surely can penetrate the hull. And having 16 of them the damage can stack up quickly. On top of that, you usually fight battleships at a longer range with your mainguns. Your secondary armament is more often used against cruisers and destroyers. And 152mm guns surely can penetrate those guys.

i don't know if this is still worth talking about, but unless you are sailing broadside on between two ships the HE capability of Ishizuchi is halved just like every other ship. You still have a higher rate of fire, but worse guns and armor. The Ap secondaries are Practically useless against battleships unless there's a super structure hit. So that's (based on your math) 57 rounds per minute vs 90 rpm or vs 50 rpm. If it were just secondaries, sure the ishizuchi might win as long as they aren't too close. Closer your ships get the more it hits the belt armor and 76.2mm gun isn't going to pen much, but 130mms will pen a lot more. The Arkansas and the nikolai would dominate the ishizuchi in a 3.5km gun duel. The secondaries are not good enough to compensate for anything except when going up against cruisers and destroyers. That's just my opinion on the matter.

Thanks for this video. A good description, just a few things I want to comment. First the you forget one thing about the main guns of the Nikolai. As both other ships have two turrets able to fire to the front and to the rear, the Nikolai has just one. This means one barrel less to shoot and no possibility to shoot into this direction if the turret is knocked out. Just a small issue but still one. Now you said, that you can't understand why he had situational awareness on a battle ship. The answer to this is very easy. With this skill you have a cheap legal cheat to spot destroyers. I know many BB captains that have this skill. It might not show you the destroyer, but you know that one (or more) is around that is spotting you and you can be even more cautios of torpedo attacks. This skill is an in game cheat as you know that you're spotted even though you shouldn't be able to know it. And a little hint for driving battleships. If you are in a duel with a cruiser, put out the fire when he started a second one or is not able to set another one. That saves much damage and is a better use of the damage control ability as much of the fire damage will be repaired by the repair team. It's like waiting for the bombers to set fires after you got a torpedo bomber attack. That still doesn't change the fact, that the fire damage is far too high. It is just as if all those ships are build from oil drenged paper.

See Jingles the problem battleship drivers have with fires, isn't the fact that they happen. It is as you mentioned, just how certainly they happen. And they shouldn't. Fire damage already scales wildly, and much more so than it should, and even if you invest all your captain points, and all your modules, the chance to be lit on fire should not be anywhere near as high as it is.

I like the idea of this vessel as it seems to be made in game to take maximum advantage of armor Angling, IE you point at about 30 degrees off the bow, can fire all your batteries at the target and give yourself an insane amount of armor. Too bad I can't buy it.

Honestly with carrier torps, how easy they are to avoid depends more on whether or not the carrier captain is doing manual drops or not. Auto drops can be avoided. Manual drops, the carrier planes might as well be beaming primed torpedoes into your hull.

Hey Jingles, the situational awareness perk for BBs is rather useless in the beginning of the game, except for finding out weather or not the first boat to spot you is a DD or not, but late game, its a LIFE SAVER. Being able to know when a DD is looking at you can give you important clues to their location and direction of travel. Need to know info to keep yourself on top of the water. Just my two cents though, ALL of my BB's have it. ^^

Just saying, but the admiral skill to tell if I'm detected or not is almost always the FIRST thing I take in any ship. I put the most importance on it in Destroyers, but I always take it first for any class of ship. Comes in handy when the only thing that COULD be spotting you is a Japanese destroyer, but he's just out of sight range. You can expect the torps.

Jingles, situational awareness can be very effective on battleships in the right situation. typically its an easy way to know when a destroyer is spotting you, because most of the time you will be able to spot any cruisers and battleships that are spotting you.

It seems Jingels hasn't played during the time 5.1.0 and the hotfix rolled out yesterday. AP Shells traveling through water and hitting just short of ships couldn't penetrate any armor. That was absolutely no fun for us BB drivers, because that Phoenix did exactly what Cruisers did during that time. Driving parallel to a BB and getting hit every 30+ seconds for 3-5k damage, so every cruisers would outtrade you for damage with HE. Angeling your Cruiser made AP pens through the deck much easier. So count yourself lucky Jingles you played the Nikolai only yesterday. :)

I dont get why the American battleships at later tiers (Montana, Iowa, and North Carolina.) don't have better accuracy. Historically they had or would have had radar guided guns that were deadly accurate. (Ask the IJN Kirishima) The Colorados and New Mexicos also had radar controlled guns after refits so on their upgraded hills the guns should be more accurate.

These ships were designed to take hits and keep going. This is true. However, they were not doused in flammable substances before going into battle, and if you check there was only one or two cases of BB's being lost due to fire. No, BB's do get set on fire far too much. There have been games where every single incoming volley that I've taken, when not already on fire, has set me on fire. And given how fast your hitpoints are reduced by fire, it makes that immense health pool virtually useless. Yes, cruisers and destroyers can get set on fire, but they tend to put their fires out a lot faster.

This ship is just fucking outstanding. I dont regret buying it at all. those 12 12 inch guns just wreak and its armor is very good. I have yet to lose in a gunnery duel to a myogi or wyoming in this thing

One last thing: I do prefer having situational awareness on all my captains (including BB) as soon as I can get it. One simple reason: if I goes off, and I can't see any bad guys, I know I need to throw the rudder over and chop the power because even money there's a spread of torps headed my way. I've lost count of how many times that's saved me

Secession made a white-and-gold custom skin for the Imperator Nikolai I, and I modified it (just darkened the white parts) to make it black-and-gold. Situational Awareness is needed in BBs just as well as anyone else. That skill has become an important tool in my Mexico. After loosing my back-up and I'm all by myself, sailing around an island with the enemy team mostly elsewhere. .. and suddenly my SA goes off, I'm loading HE in my main guns and getting prepared to go DD hunting. Anything that helps you get the edge on those little shits is important.

hi jingles, i just wanted to say that i use situational awarenes on all my ships so even my battleships. my reason is destroyers from mid match onward when you are being hunted. when they shoot outside your viewrange... it gets frustrating by phantom torpedoes going after you. at least it eases my surprise and make me do preventative evasive to torps. and gives me info to turn and run away from a dd so its difficult for him. thats my 2 cents and i like it. keep up the good work!
