We used a night vision monocular and fortunately were blessed with near perfect weather. Our boat is a 268 Four Winns Vista with a single big block inboard out board. We cruised at 40mph , fuel burn was about 12- 14 GPH.

Mike, I think all of us in the audience have been waiting for this one. Love the prep video! A couple things; 1. You're going the wrong way! Your trip is southbound down the east coast. However, the gulf stream is north bound the whole way! Just traveling with the current, you'd have added an additional 1-2 nautical miles per hour. You fought the current the whole way, my friend. You'd be better off having breakfast on South Beach at Big Pink and dinner in NYC at Peter Lugers. 2. At about 23:30, you said the trip was from NYC to Key West. That got me confused, cuz I think the trip is NYC to Miami right? None of this matters, my brother. What's truly important? That you are a great story teller and you're letting us live the greatest ocean adventure of Summer 2023 vicariously thru you and Sarah. Mucho thanks, my brother!
@Howe2Live Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Ralph, We chose south bound because the cat get about 30% better fuel economy flying into the wind. The prevailing wind on the East cost this time of year is out of the south East. The gulf current was offshore 50-100 miles and well beyond our path. We only found it in the last 49 miles along the south eastern tip of FL where it comes close to the shoreline. As for the timeline… it’ll all make sense next episode.:: I had a hard time telling people what happened yet not revealing everything. Thanks for watching M&S

That drone catch from the bow was great!! Most would not attempt that. I prefer the towel method (have a person hold a large beach towel and "catch" the drone) Keeps the props from eating fingers if a wave hits. And that rising flag shot in the beginning was beautiful!

Wow, it was awesome to see a quick little video of the Gentry. I worked as a welder in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Canada, waaaay back in 1989 to 1992. The Gentry had run aground on the rocks in Shelburne back then, and she required some serious repairs to her hull. The logistics crew that stayed with the Gentry to oversee the work were about the most serious party people I have ever been around in my life. Steaks 2 inches thick, all the lobsters a man could eat, coolers full of booze that were just there for the taking. We had to control ourselves during the week so that the welds on that aluminum hull were perfect, but Jesus H. Christ, those guys could party on the weekends. I remember the rubber bladders in aluminum "coffins" that were the fuel bladders. Because I was the senior welder, I even got to go on the sea trials onboard the Gentry, that boat was amazing to say the least, but then again, up to that point, the only boat I was ever on was a Cape Islander lobster fishing boat at 5 knots. I don't know the proper name for the "back up" boat, but there was a good-sized boat that followed along where the Gentry went and that is where all the partying happened, as soon as the back up boat was moored to the Shelburne wharf, the Captain jumped in a truck, went up to the tiny local hardware store and came back with about 5 propane BBQ's and then started cooking huge steaks, baked potatoes, vegetables for all of us, before he even knew our names .... I think he wanted us to put our hearts and souls into repairing that "super boat" of his...and we did, not a problem was found during sea trials. I'm 64 years old now, been a high pressure pipe welder since 1989, still work in the shipyards but not in tiny Shelburne anymore ...
