Extra luck means extra chance of getting multi-chests, multi-chests have a longer animation so it's a potential time loss.

@@moonlight2870 I actually worked it out on my own fresh wipe of the game. Getting a clover pickup unlocks the clover powerup which increases the chance of accidentally evolving the cross and getting a powerup from level that you don't want. So perhaps it's two things!
