What a brilliant year of international rugby. Whilst the players and the invited media were in Monaco to acknowledge the success, here is my reaction to the winners of the individual awards and the Dream Team of 2024.

Reminds me a bit of 2009 when Fourie Du Preez was by far the best scrumhalf and player in the world, he should have won player of the year. Yet the judges decided to reward Richie McCaw for the 3rd time. 🤔

Since when does Rugby 7's Olympic teams trump the Rugby World Cup teams and how does the minds of World Rugby work to compare the 7's coaches with the 15 coaches???? Rugby 7's is a different game with different rules, you cannot compare it on any level with the 15 man game. World Rugby under Bill has really gone to shit on so many levels. I wonder if Rassie coaches the South African 7's team for the next Olympics and win the gold, will the "committee" pick him as the Rugby coach of the year - I don't think so, not even if he has 3 World Cup Titles. Congrats to PSTD and Rassie and the Springboks for a wonderful year of outstanding Rugby.

I think you may find that the two time world cup coach was relevant in the years 2019 and 2023. This is 2024. There is only "no comparison" if you don't want there to be. The sevens coach you speak of this year coached the team who win the grand final of the world series and an Olympic gold.

"but then again the elites who run the show will force their agenda". Half of the team is south african, what agenda are they even pushing? If you actually pay attention to what the sevens coach did this year, you would understand the choice. I’m an ex South African living in Australia and absolutely loving the rugby this year and listening to your commentary after every game, just love it. I think Rassie absolutely deserves to win coach of the year award the result was definitely biased due to the fall out with Rassie in the past. Sevens is a completely different game and should in reality be awarded separately to 15”s rugby. Regardless Rassie deserves the award and we all know that. Think Gerhard Steenekamp should have been nominated in the breakthrough player of the year. He's delivered performances that veteran looseheads would salivate over whilst being a rookie. Been part of the most destructive scrum in the world and his work rate and soft skills are very decent. He has just started his international career and he could already be in the 10 best looseheads in the world.

There are only so many hours in the day. I have thought about this and I considered that doing a half arsed job would actually be counter productive, and it would feel like a token gesture. I'm sure there are people who watch every minute of every game in every competition - I simply can't do that. And if I did have the time to do so I'd love to watch more Super Rugby, Japanese league and Sevens, which I don't see much of either. I'll have a think about World Cup next year.

I’m French too but no way we put any French in that team. Our 6 nations was too shite for that. The only one I could seen, and that sounds ludicrous, is Ramos at 10. Because there is no 10 that really dominated the field this year. And he played Wales / England / NZ / Argentina / Japan in that position and was excellent all the time. But are 5 matchs at a position enough to be nominated ? I’m not sure

A man who won 2 WC's, who brought innovation to rugby, who changed the game and fixed SA rugby not getting coach of the year. Really, Jerome does not even touch his shadow. Put this man in charge of world of rugby and this game will grow exponentially. Instead of concentrating on bs rules and the worst officiating ever seen. A plan for rugby for years ahead of time. He is what rugby needs and that intimedates everyone at the top. That is the darker side of greatness.

Hi Tim, have to agree with you, I think Marcus Smith has been pretty exciting. Why don't they have coach for sevens and coach for 15s?
