Huge thank you for posting this, watching KZbin instruction videos have made me completely lose my way trying to do things my body or mind can't do. This has instilled the basic fundamentals of the proper set and turn without overturning and swaying. Hit a hundred balls today and haven't struck it like that for a year or more, seriously thank you.

It was my pleasure, Stephen & I couldn't agree more. KZbin is filled with complicated long-winded swing lessons that will have your mind spinning in different directions. This drill is very simple, and it works with almost all swing types. It's been one of the best swing drills on tour for over 40 years. If you ever come unglued out on the course, remember this drill, It will bring it back together 🍻

What I find amazing about these drills used by multiple major winners is that they found something that worked without being burdened by the science behind why. No pressure plates or gears or bio mechanists just efficient movement coupled with timed release. So they didn’t bomb it by todays standard - Faldo hit 3 iron 195yds but he could drop it on a dime. The relative simplicity is wonderful to watch.

@KryptonitetoallBSАй бұрын
When Faldo started out he was actually a long hitter. He won a few tournaments but he recognised that in order to become the best in the world he had to be more consistent. He started again from scratch with his swing. I think it took him over a year to perfect it. His "new" swing as you described, meant he was hitting less distance, but he went onto be the number 1 in the world and won 6 majors!

I love this drill, it does simplify the swing with the early wrist set, then rotate. I've been doing it for a few months now, combined with an extension after impact focus (hands leading club head until 3 oclock). Results have been really solid ball striking and lower scores.

The face at the top should match the lead forearm, even if the wrist is slightly cupped. Leadbetter himself has said many times that the lead wrist need not be flat at the top. In a toe up swing model, a player with a strong grip indiscriminately flattening the wrist is setting themselves up for left of left misses. Forget the wrist and focus on the face, gravity and centrifugal force will flatten it when it’s appropriate as long as the club is working on plane 🤓
@phumphryАй бұрын
I love this. Any thoughts of doing this drill with driver? (Which like many, is the club I most struggle with). Cheers…
@therealgolfsecretsАй бұрын
🤜🤛 You can do this drill with a driver. The ball alignment is off the instep of the lead foot. To check if you have the correct tee height, place the driver head on the ground next to the ball: only half of the ball should be visible above the club head (try only a 1/4 above if you sky it all the time). Without seeing your swing, i can't give specific advice, but try and go over the fundamentals (grip, stance, alignment). One of the most common problems I do see on the range is the club being dragged through impact with no release (which causes a slice/open club face). Keep in mind that the driver is released early... remember what Jack Nicklaus said " I want to hit the ball before the buttons on my shirt reach it" The only way to accomplish that is statement is with an early release. 🍻 keep me posted on your results.
@phumphryАй бұрын
@@therealgolfsecrets Thanks (from Perth Australia). My coach is also trying to get me to release as I tend to hold on and try to control it. He said something like “The face ain’t getting square if you’re hanging on to it!”

The interesting thing with this drill is that the backswing and the downswing match - wrist cock then turn back, turn down then uncock. It’s probably easier for the body to remember a sequence when one is just the reverse of the other.

I haven't tried this drill, but I'll give it a go as it looks simple. As an ex tennis coach I am apprehensive about seeing a pro golf coach as they get too technical and put too many ideas into your head before you hit the ball. I have a decent golf swing and my normal shape is a draw, however I am inconsistent and I could probably do with someone giving me one or two pointers. But I don't want to change my natural swing too much and become mechanical. My grip is 100%. But I'm certain I could improve if a pro watches me hit 20 balls or so. So many KZbin videos are far too technical and confusing. All this closed face at the top or push your elbow in......I just don't understand. I turn my shoulders, keep my left arm straight, cock my wrists near the end of the backswing and follow through. Why do we need to make it any more complicated than that?
@therealgolfsecretsАй бұрын
I hear ya krypto, golf instruction on KZbin is a hot mess of conflicting swing methods by design. So many different ways to swing & most lessons on youtube leave out critical information , so you subscribe to their monthly membership 💰 to get the real lesson. Definitely try this drill with your natural draw swing. I think you'll be amazed how consistent your natural swing can be. 🍻

My pleasure, Louis. This drill will quickly become your favorite drill, especially when you lose your swing/confidence out on the course. 💯 I showed my father this drill at the age of 75, and his eyes lit up 👀. He crushed a 7 iron without trying. He turned & said to me, "I've never felt that before." Meaning with such effortless power. He's been playing great golf for years with this drill. 🍻
@therealgolfsecrets2 ай бұрын
I should mention that I had him sit down into his delivery position as he pulled the club straight down. That's where the effortless power came from. The preset drill placed his trail elbow in the proper position in the back swing, which allowed his trail arm to work properly through impact.

I disagree with a flat wrist. Hogan wanted a cupped left wrist at the top which helped him with his hook. I’m of the belief you need to do what’s natural to the way you move, but if your a slicer, you may want to keep your wrist flatter. There are many ways to hit a golf ball and there are no shortcuts to better ball striking. 🤷♂️
@therealgolfsecrets2 ай бұрын
Most golfers will have an extremely cupped lead wrist and not even be aware of it. Nick Faldo uses and teaches a flat lead wrist. The ideal thing to do is to try this drill with a flat, bowed, and cupped lead wrist to gain perspective and tweak it, I say let the ball flight decide what works best.
@AlphaPoppa382 ай бұрын
I find that for me a flat wrist is difficult, mainly because my trail hand doesn’t like to bend back far enough to get a flat wrist comfortably. My hands also feel weak and uncoordinated trying to bow or flatten out. If you look at Colin morokawas swing he has a pretty good cup going and he flattens his wrist in his down swing
@jeffersonsimmons5829Ай бұрын
Isn't the clubface too open at the initial set and top of backswing?
@blue24563Ай бұрын
No, because he had fully hinged his wrists there. You won’t be in that position in a normal swing. In the normal swing, your wrists won’t be fully set until later.

@@therealgolfsecrets Show me one instance where Pete or anyone else talks about the physics of the golf club or how it actually works. Have fun looking, because you won't find it. And yes you can teach someone to use a tool without actually knowing how it works, but it takes a long time and experimentation which is why golf instruction is all over the place but that's what we're all used to so no one ever questions it. Pete Cowan never won a major and only won ONCE and using a successful golfer to illustrate silly ideas is what many instructors do to get you to think that player's success is somehow related to this instructors teachings, which it is not. I used to do this drill and it ruined my golf game! My ball flight changed from a controlled draw into a massive and dreaded slice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At parallel the club face needs to be slightly closed (not upright) to promote a gentle draw and at the top (before you commence the downswing) rotate the elbow inwards (internal rotation), this will help to give you a powerful and penetrating ball flight rather than a weak slice that goes way up into the sky, but ends up short and right
