Can’t wait for you to hear her sing Everyone (which she says is her most difficult song. SoHyang is plagued with bouts of pneumonia since having uterine cancer in her early twenties. She normally comes out of hospital and sings like this. She’s a born again Christian who has been offered many contracts in the West which she has turned down, I thank God she has!

We all wonder if Sohyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she’s actually an angel come down from Heaven. 😇 We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. Her voice is, as one person described it, like liquid gold. Perfection in clarity and pitch, and she doesn’t fade in the upper octaves, which is startling when you hear her hit those 5th and 6th octave notes with such _POWER_ it actually gives everyone goose bumps-and makes us bald guys’ hair stand on end! As she says, her voice “is from God.” She does all the musical arrangements herself, with the input of her in-law family and musical assistants, teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks five languages: Korean, English, French, Vietnamese and Chinese, as well as reading Greek! Let me catch my breath. OK. She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work, to strengthen those suffering through difficult times. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all eagerly worked with her when they were in Asia. She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. Because of this she is prone to catching pneumonia but has sang perfectly while suffering from it in her live performance of “You Raise Me Up” before Shane Filan of Westlife on South Korean TV: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpbCfWylm82Iqpo She has asked those who love her singing to pray that God keep pneumonia away from her, she has suffered from it on so many occasions. Whitney Houston’s former manager saw her on KZbin and showed her to Oprah Winfrey, who brought her to David Foster’s attention. Foster then contacted Sohyang and went to Japan in order to have her perform eight concerts with him at Tokyo’s famous Blue Note Club in late-2018. She can also play the piano and guitar. Is there anything this genius level woman can’t do? Ironically, Sohyang stated in another interview that both she and her in-law family were surprised to discover that she could sing so excellently! Though she is maybe 5' 4" and only about 100 pounds, Sohyang simply transcends the thresholds of music and takes you there with her. She becomes the song when she sings it, and then re-emerges when she is done. An experience like no other. I don’t know what else to say. I’ve spent _entire days_ listening to her, and shed more than a few tears of joy along the way. I really must also compliment the choir, orchestra and audio/video production people Sohyang works with. They are all top notch from what I can see and hear, and that is important to note as these are _essential_ elements of any great musical production. Kim So Hyang is a South Korean gospel singer active since the late 1990's. She is a world-class vocalist. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion are among her influences but she has surpassed them all in my opinion. So Hyang is the best female voice I have ever heard in a not that very short life. This smallish woman is simply a vocal monster. She seems to have more singing tools in her basket than anyone I've come across. So Hyang is absolutely extraordinary in her live performances, some of which are the best in musical history. KZbin has given us the proof of that. She practices a song a hundred times before a performance. She is the arranger (with her team) and she leaves little to chance. Her version of "I Have Nothing' from the DMC Festival is the best live performance of that song I have ever heard (by anyone, including the great Whitney live). But So Hyang can sing anything. Her rendition of 'Misty' from the Begin Again Concerts (outside during COVID) is splendid. So Hyang believes the lyrics she is singing, and is able to easily covey the meaning/message of the song. When she sings in Korean, it is not necessary to understand the lyrics, because of So Hyang's gift to touch people. So Hyang is a 45 year old devout Christian and gospel singer from South Korea. In her early 20's and newly married, she was diagnosed with early stage uterine cancer, which left her unable to have children. After receiving a healing from God, So Hyang's goal has been to use her voice to bring comfort to people who are experiencing difficult times. She IS NOT motivated by either money or fame. She has rejected numerous offers from major record labels. In addition to being a published author of several fiction books, she lectures about song and vocal technique at a South Korean university. So Hyang, her husband and several assistants arrange every aspect of her live shows; the music, backing vocals, staging, lighting, etc.

After suffering one of 8 bouts of Pneumonia over a period of less then three years ! Great reaction. I discovered sohyang on New Year’s Eve about 4 years ago. I check almost every evening and first thing in the morning for new reactions like yours. She’s just so exceptional. Once you come to know more about her, you’ll be even more impressed. Others will fill in the blanks for you about her life but shes possibly even a more impressive human than she is a singer. Considered that! There are probably 30 great songs you’ll eventually react to. But I want to pass along two recommendations. “Everyone” might be the best vocal performance in history. Don’t watch it next . Build up to it. Another one is the Hug Me link below. It is often reacted to by others from a “masked singer” episode. Don’t use that version. You can’t see her face (it’s behind a mask) and you must see her face to get the full value. Below is a link to another version. I think it is from the period where she was suffering serious health issues - many recurrent bouts of pneumonia. The performance is still transcendent . How she can sing like this, with this emotion and not collapse is a mystery to me. It’s one of the most moving performances I have ever seen. I’ve never seen a reaction to this version. At the beginning of her career in 1996, some people dubbed the PHENOMENAL So Hyang, the Korean Mariah Carey. Truth be told, the legendary Mariah Carey, in her prime, and on her very best day, DID NOT possess the vocal power/vocal stamina/breath control of So Hyang. So Hyang is in a league of her own. The comparison to Mariah Carey has ceased to exist a long time ago.

Yes. In the presence of GREATNESS! I don't get goosebumps, but when something is this brilliant and piercingly beautiful I do also tear up! {In my humble opinion!} Sohyang has equivilent mastery over her instrument to Dimash, and you know now what a huge statement that is! Of course Dimash's range and flex across multiple instruments, languages and genres puts him still WAY ahead of the pack. She is in a rarified stata that singers like Diana are headed towards but not quite there yet. (But that's no criticism, Sohyang has a couple of decades more experience ahead of 'our' Diana! ) As for sweet bright purity of sound/ timbre - she's up there with the very small handful of the female 'Greats' like *LARA FABIAN. { You simply HAVE to see Lara! NO-ONE has done a better 'Caruso' > Suggest you choose her 1999 'From Lara With Love' Concert version } # Back to the stunning talent from South Korea... There is a simply incredible Male Quartet: FORESTELLA. Forget goosebumps and tears - I want to see you literally fall off your chair when you hear their version of 'Hijo De La Luna'. AND while we're still in Asia, - and for something completely different! - Filipino Singer; KZ TANDINGEN's cover of Adele's 'Rolling In The Deep' will also knock your sock off! ENJOY!😂

There was a time when Dimash was crowned the King and Sohyang the Queen before Covid. Not sure if this still holds true. Still looking to hear another voice. Try listening to Sohyang's Arirang Alone in her native language. Another voice to explore is Zhou Shen from China. Since Halloween is coming, try Ring the doorbell or Heaven Island. Both are in Chinese so need look for those videos with English subtitles, if any.

I tried. I tried hard for the third time in years. It just doesn't brake into my bubble, and I can't explain it why. Not even the gospel edition of it. As for the Jackie Evancho version ... heavens. I am buffled, for there is a "real talent" I don't like, but she gets to me and I place far above this one : Angeline Jordan. Talking about the best, one shell not form opinion before listening to Floor Jansen. All these 3 are classes above.

I kind of prefer Morissette Amon tone better, but it is just a personal preference. Can you add her in your reactions? She also has a whistle tone too. Songs like "Akin Ka Na Lang", "Never Enough", "Rise Up" and "Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw" are pretty good to start. By the way, she is from Philippines and she is called the "Asia's Phoenix" for her vocal range

I never really could appreciate female vocals. Whenever they're showing off, that sounds to me like cats got electroshocks. To get a widely considered better singer, we simply just need to turn up the voltage a bit. After this opinion of mine, i guess it's fairly obvious that the Greatest and the Only One to me is: Her Majesty Diana Ankidunova.

So while Garfunkel's version may have a special magic to it, SoHyang's interpretation also brings something special and different to the song.
