Many experts try to find the slightest error or stumble in her presentation so they can give Sohyang a singing lesson, but Sohyang's genius and accuracy make that virtually impossible. To your credit, you have always used her skills as teaching opportunities. Bravo! You see, among Sohyang's skills are; Actress (The Sound of Music), Musical Arranger and Staging/Lighting Engineer (all TV & Stage performances), Vocal Instructor (teaches Music and Voice at the University). Not to mention; Composer (Dream), Author (Four Novels and a New Testament Treatise), Online Bible Teacher (Lectures on Old Testament), and Motivational Speaker. I left out some stuff. She IS a genius. I hope it is not crass to also mention that she is a beautiful woman and has a smile to melt the hardest heart. . . . Cheers.

@@TheWordSmith365 Thanks, Carl. By the way, I know you are very professional and may know to do this, but Reactors often fail at one thing that will greatly improve the quality of their videos. It is this: whenever you are provided with a complete title or even a link to a video, find the closest form of the TITLE including the venue, if possible, then type it in the Search Bar, and type "English Subtitles" after it. There are multiple versions of the same performances out there, some are terrible, and it always disappoints me when one of my favorite Reactors misses the Lyrics or plays a cobbled up version. For example, one version of "Where Are You" by Sohyang has an interview on the front - avoid it, because the absolute highest moment of that performance is destroyed with an interview clip laid in over the top of it. Absurd, but not uncommon. Cheers.

Great to see you return to Sohyang once again. One trap of reacting to immensely gifted talents like Sohyang is to fall into the routine of repeated praises and adulations. At some point, it can't help but lose the edge of spontaneity that draws echoing response from the audience. Yet, I solute you for consistently highlighting relevant yet informative areas for us to enjoy each time. I truly appreciate the observation about Sohyang's uncanny ability to solicit emotional resonance from her audience. Some singers can be counted on to draw amazement; some are adept in thought provoking delivery. With Sohyang, she is so special at touching our raw emotion, yes, heart and soul. So you are not alone in your assessment. I also enjoy your comments on the dedication and commitment to singing required to achieve the vocal feats with consistency and reliability as displayed in Sohyang's performances. It underscores how greatness doesn't come with pure innate talent but also relentless passion and effort by the artist to perfect their craft. It's interesting how you discussed visualization of Sohyang's singing in Arirang Alone. I have always felt that this particular "Arirang Alone" performance is a cinematic journey that takes the audience from a peaceful, bucolic countryside through the whirlwind of chaos and destruction of a storm, and eventually returning to the yearning for the beautiful, tranquil home in the field. This "Arirang Alone" is one of Sohyang's signature stages and glad you found your way here. Thanks for the appreciative and insightful video.

Oh come on Carl! Tell us what you really think! Obviously Sohyang is a space alien, LOL! 💖😇 Arirang has no direct translation to English but the idea it represents is along the lines of very hard work or diligent struggle. The song is based on a Korean folk song that has evolved over a period of 600 years and now is an allegory for their desire to reunite north and south. Sohyang is difficult to rationally explain. She might have died from cervical cancer when she was 20 but credits God with her healing. Yet a bad blood transfusion at the time of the surgery left her with hepatitis B. Normally that is easily cured with antibiotics but this was the rare incurable variety so it plagues her to this day with a compromised immune system and she contracts pneumonia rather often. For a four year period from 2016 to 2020 she was battling it eight different times and was almost out of circulation in the musical community. Thus Sohyang knows what it is to be chronically ill for a lengthy period of time but again credits God with teaching her invaluable spiritual lessons from it. She has largely been fine since then but did come down with covid19 for two weeks in the summer of 2022. Thankfully she recovered well and at the age of 45 sings as excellently today as she ever has. You are right when the thought comes to mind that there is no way this woman is 45! She looks 10 or 15 years younger, at least! But it is true. She was born on April 5, 1978! 🤷‍♂ Professional "super star" level music producers (David Foster), singers (Michael Bolton and Josh Groban), teachers (Seth Riggs) and vocal coaches aplenty are pretty well stupefied at how much talent is wrapped up in this tiny five foot four inch, 100 pound woman. Sohyang has trained her central nervous system to the point, and developed such articulate muscular control, that her singing technique is perfect. She is considered a master singer. Literally. Again Sohyang gives the credit to the divine entity, stating her voice "is from God." Obviously she has taken her singing talent to the nth degree, and tells others who want to enter the world of professional singing that they must be born with a good voice and then work very hard to develop it. But this barely scratches the surface of who Sohyang is and how talented she is on stage. Her stage presence and body language are unmatched in my experience, much like what Elvis Presley had fifty years ago but different, of course, since she is a sincere Christian woman and believes in presenting herself in modest yet excellent quality theatrical attire and with absolute confidence and purpose at all times. I have also found these high production value South Korean music presentations to be as good as you will find anywhere on the planet. They show Sohyang in the best fashion possible and these seem, to me, as good as you would find at _any_ of the Grammy Awards in their heyday. When you add a Super Star talent like Sohyang to the show, everyone who watches it is quite rightly blown away. 👀😮💥👌😎🎸🎙👽🛸💖💖💖

Wow, thank you for sharing such detailed insights into the remarkable journey and talent of Sohyang! Her story is truly inspiring and speaks volumes about her resilience, faith, and extraordinary musical prowess. The allegorical significance of "Arirang" in Korean culture, representing diligence and the desire for reunification, adds a profound layer of meaning to Sohyang's performance of the song. It's fascinating to see how music can encapsulate such deep-seated emotions and aspirations within its melodies. Sohyang's personal battles with health challenges, including cervical cancer and hepatitis B, are testament to her strength and perseverance. Her unwavering faith and the lessons she's gleaned from these experiences are nothing short of remarkable. It's a testament to her indomitable spirit that she continues to grace us with her heavenly voice, even amidst such trials. The recognition from industry luminaries like David Foster, Michael Bolton, and Josh Groban underscores Sohyang's status as a master singer. Her ability to command the stage with unmatched presence and confidence is a testament to her unparalleled talent and dedication to her craft. And I couldn't agree more about the high production value of South Korean music presentations, particularly when featuring a superstar talent like Sohyang. It's a testament to the global appeal and excellence of Korean music and entertainment. Thank you once again for sharing these insights, and for allowing us to marvel at the sheer brilliance of Sohyang's talent. Regarding the meaning of the song Arirang, I have written a very long essay that I will summarise here: The ancient name of the Temple Mount and of Jerusalem is "Ariel". "Ari" (Hebrew אֲרִי) means "lion" in Hebrew, and the lion represents the tribe of Yehudah ("Judah") as well as the Messiah, who is called "The lion of Judah" - in other words, the Messiah is the lion of lions. I believe the -rang part is from the Hebrew verb רָנַן ("ranan"), which means "give a ringing cry (of joy)", or simply "rejoice", and it is an imperative form. "Arariyo" is probably a contraction for 2 Hebrew words: הֲרָרִי֙ ("harari") and הָרִ֥יעוּ ("hariyu"). "Harari" means "my mountain", and the one who uses that phrase in the Bible is Adonai ("God"), and this exact word appears in the 17th chapter of Jeremiah, where Adonai, through his prophet Jeremiah, says that due to Judah's sins, Judah will lose "My mountain", while all of Judah's possessions will be taken by the enemy. "Hariyu" means "Make a joyful noise", and this exact word appears in Psalm 100. Obviously, there is a relationship between "ranan" ("Give a ringing cry (of joy)") and "hariyu" ("Make a joyful noise"). This song is expressing hope that when the Messiah, or "ari" returns, the people who have been displaced from Israel, including some of the ancestors of the Korean people, will once again be able to ascend Adonai's holy mountain and worship Him. If you want to see the historical background of that displacement, then see a video by Professor Avigdor Shachan, who has studied the lost tribes of Israel for over half a century. If one studies Hebrew Biblical poetry (Robert Alter's work "The art of Biblical poetry" is a good resource), they will immediately learn that two of the most defining traits of such poetry are wordplay and parallelism. I argue that this semi-Hebraic song contains both of these features, and they are very conspicuous. First of all, the ancient name for the Temple Mount, and by analogy Jerusalem, is "Ariel". I believe that "Arirang" is probably a wordplay on this ancient name that probably the community all knew the meaning and significance of. In fact, it appears that Arirang could well be an inventive substitute name for Ariel in a poetic song such as this. As we know from common experience, poets often invent names having certain qualities or merits that serve the poem. There is a very very old Japanese folksong called Soran Bushi" or alternately called "Yaren Soran". It is a song sung by fishermen since ancient times. Yet almost nobody knows what it means. This is because the lyrics are in ancient Hebrew; and it required the Israeli diplomat to Japan for Japanese to understand what this song is saying exactly. And its meaning is also strongly related to the theme of Arirang, apparently. Here is a comment I read on this song: it was made in response to a video called "The Mystery of Jews in Japan" on the World Turtle Productions, LLC KZbin channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/anmpY3mhh6pghrc [BEGIN QUOTE] There is a "Soran Bushi" in sailor's song handed down from ancient times in Japan. Lyrics of this "Soran Bushi" begin with "Yaren, Soran," but the meaning of the word is not the case in any dialect of Japan, it is not being interpreted in Japanese. However, it will "Sing! Songs of joy" in it translates "Yaren, Soran (yaranen solan)" in the ancient Hebrew. The "Soran Bushi", there is the theory that, in the song was a prayer to God by the Jews, which aims to the Promised Land. [END QUOTE] The user making this comment is @atsmat7199 ---------------------- My analysis: Actually Hebrew "yaranen" is actually just a different form of the same Hebrew word "ranan", which I postulated is a component of "Arirang" which is being used to refer to the Temple Mount. The word "ranan" (רַנֵּן) is Strong's Concordance number 3442. One of the occurrences having meaning related to "Arirang" as well as "Yaren Soran" appears in Psalm 98:8: "יַ֝֗חַד הָרִ֥ים יְרַנֵּֽנוּ" This translates as "Let the mountains sing together."

Thank you for sharing this fascinating interpretation of the meaning behind the song "Arirang" and its potential connections to Hebrew language and biblical themes. Your analysis delves deep into linguistic and cultural nuances, shedding light on the rich layers of meaning embedded within the song. The parallels drawn between "Arirang" and the ancient Hebrew wordplay, as well as its potential ties to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, offer a compelling perspective on the song's significance. It's intriguing to consider how historical and religious contexts may intersect with cultural expressions like folk songs, enriching our understanding of their origins and meanings. The mention of "Soran Bushi" and its alleged Hebrew origins further adds to the intrigue, suggesting a cross-cultural exchange of musical traditions with deep spiritual underpinnings. The connection to Psalm 98:8, with its invocation for mountains to sing together, reinforces the idea of music as a universal language that transcends boundaries and communicates profound truths. Thank you for sharing your insightful analysis and for shedding light on the hidden depths of "Arirang." It's a testament to the power of music to evoke emotions, provoke thought, and bridge cultural divides. 🎶🌍

@@TheWordSmith365 thanks so much for your reflective response. True to your name, you are a gracious and graceful wordsmith. Are you of Indian descent, by any chance? A Tamil commented on Sohyang's video as follows: "I think koreans learnt this culture from Tamil People when a Tamil Queen married a korean king 2000 years before because Tamil Mothers sing "Araro ariraro" song to calm down their babies when they cry and this type songs called in Tamil as thaaladdu and thaal means knees and addue means swinging or little shake so thaladdu means when babies cry mothers sit on the floor and keep their baby in their knees(keep baby head touch mother feet so baby can see mother's face) and sing these songs with little swinging or shake then baby calm down and sleep well. I will post two videos below then you can realize the Truth behind this korean song and one more thing mother and father in Tamil and Korean are same words same meaning and same sound [for instance] Amma and Appa[.]" I thought you might be interested in knowing that there are many Korean words that are probably cognates of Semitic words - and most of them are similar to Tigrinya or Akkadian, and to a lesser degree Hebrew. For instance, the Korean word for "way" or "road" is "daero", whereas in Hebrew, it is "derech"; and the Akkadian word for same is "girru", while in Korean, there is a word "gil", which means basically the same thing. In some Semitic languages, there is a negating word "mah"; and this is the same in Korea, where "-mah" means "don't" or "doesn't". Furthermore, in Korean, "an" means "not", while in Hebrew, it is "ein". The Akkadian word for army is "gunnu"; whereas in Korean, the root is "gun". In Tigrinya, "becha" refers to a yellowish-green color; whereas in Korean, the word for a yellowish-green stone gemstone named jade is "bitchwi". Traditionally, there was a sacrifice offered on the 3rd anniversary of the death of a son; and it was called "dam"; but that same word means "blood" in many Semitic languages. There are many more examples. Both the culture shared with the Tamil people and the linguistic similarities with vocabulary from a number of Semitic languages tells me that the Koreans probably originated in Sumer. Bear in mind that the official name of the Japanese empire is "Sumera mi goto", which translates to "The tribe of Gad from Sumer". It appears to me that the rivalry between Koreans and Japanese date from ancient times, as Dan, the firstborn of Rachel's servant girl Bilhah, is probably the one after whom the title "Dan-gun" - the title of the founder of Korea according to official Korean histories - is named. "Gad", on the other hand, is the firstborn of the servant girl of Jacob's first wife, Leah, named Zilpah. This shared origin from Sumer would probably explain why despite the fact Koreans and Japanese cultures share so much in common, the respective people of both countries have been so antagonistic in general towards each other.

Sohyang is always a treat to listen to, even if you've heard the song a dozen times... and you're really adding additional value...She's easily among my top 10 favorite female vocalists... Btw. I'll have to check your channel to see if you got any Lara Fabian, can't remember to have watched one, but as you do Dimash you should have come across her... anyway I highly recommend Lara "Caruso" live Paris... Have a nice day, peace and love from Bavaria!
