Chicken Pot Pie Recipe: Ingredients Crust 1 Cup Butter Or Margarine 2-3/4 Cups All-Purpose Flour 6 Tbs Milk Or Water 1 Tbs Sugar 1 Tsp Salt 1/4 Tsp Cayenne Pepper Filling 2 Large Boneless Chicken Breast 3 Stalks Celery, Chopped 2 Medium Carrots, Chopped 2 Small Red Potatoes 1 Medium Onion, Chopped 1/3 Cup Frozen Peas 1/3 Cup Green Beans 1/3 Cup Corn 1 Tbs Vegetable Oil 3 Tbs Margarine Or Butter 5 Tbs All-Purpose Flour 1-2 Cup Whole Milk 4 Cups Chicken Broth 4 Tbs Sour Cream 3 Chicken Flavor Bouillon Cubes 2 Tsp Minced Garlic 1 Tsp Salt 1 Tsp Black Pepper 1 Tsp Parsley Flakes Instructions 1. Crust: Add 2-1/2 cups of flour, 1 tbs of sugar, 1 tsp of salt, and 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper, then stir in well. 2. Add your frozen margarine or butter. Press/mash into flour until different size crumbs form. 3. Create a space in the center. 4. Pour 6 tbs of milk or water into the center and bring together until a big ball of dough forms. *Make sure that you don't over-knead the dough.* 5. Wrap dough in plastic. Place in refrigerator for 2 hours. 6. Chop carrots, celery, and onion into small pieces. Peel potatoes, then chop into small square shape pieces. 7. Place a skillet over medium heat. Add 1 tbs of oil and 3 tbs of margarine or butter. Add vegetables, potatoes, and minced garlic. 8. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, parsley, bouillon cubes, and cayenne pepper. Cook and stir periodically. 9. Once vegetables are relatively tender, add 3 cups of broth and reduce heat to low heat. 10. Combine 1/2 cup milk and 4-5 tbs flour, then stir in well. 11. Add slurry to skillet, then stir in well 12. Add 2 large chopped boneless chicken breast. Cook until the chicken turns white and the filling thickens. Once done, stir in sour cream and mixed vegetables. 13. Pour remaining 1/4 cup of flour onto a flat surface, then spread out. 14. Cut dough into 6 evenly shaped pieces. Coat dough with a little flour, then flatten with a rolling pin. 15. Place pot pie tray over dough. With a knife, cut around the edges of pot pie tray, then remove excess dough. 16. Press dough into pot pie tray, then add filling. 17. Flatten the excess dough with rolling pin. Place on top of the filling 18. Seal ends of pot pie crust with a fork. Create 4 small slits in top of the crust. 19. Coat crust with 4 tbs butter. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown.

Although his kitchen supplies are limited, simply cooking with a pot or two and a few utensils, PhillyboyJay makes some of the best food, whereas I know people with every kitchen supply imaginable (expensive pots and pans, every utensil you can think of) that don't produce near the good looking food he does! Phillyboy is the best!

Let me just put this out here that this is THE BESSSSST.....I SAY THE BESSSSST...Chicken pot pie ever! I made it this past Sunday and it was so flipping GOOD! The crust turned out buttery and flakey, and the mixture was on POINT!! My husband and family LOVED it! The only thing I changed was that I did precook the chicken and potatoes before adding it to the mixture. I am DEFINATELY making this again soon!

As a 42 year old bachelor and a picky eater, I am pretty much self taught to cook. I love pot pie, but without time on my hands I found a good quick cheat. I just buy pie crusts and chicken corn chowder chunky soup. It's a delicious creamy filling.

I live outside of Boston Ma and we are in the middle of a blizzard. What better time to make and enjoy a homemade chicken pot pie. I came across your video and and decided to give your recipe a try. I had the ingredients in stock and went about assembling my pie. It is about to come out of the oven and it looks amazing. I had a little left in the pan and continued to cook it till the chicken was cooked and then gave it a try. OMG! Sooooo delicious. I wish i doubled the recipe so that i could freeze one. Great recipe and fun video to watch. thumbs up and new subscriber. thanks for sharing!

Made this today and it turned out great! I wasn't too worried about the filling. The shell/crust was what I worried about and it turned out perfect! Followed your directions to a T. I couldn't get the round tins and so used mini loaf tins. Ran a little short on dough but the pie popped right out of the tin! Delicious!

Hi PBJ !! HA- get it PB&J !! Love the recipe for Chicken Pot Pie- I'll make tonight for kiddos for Halloween! I have 2 things to share with you. Just friendly sharing between 2 people who love to cook. First, I used to use that pre-chopped garlic in the jar like you do until one of my friends MADE me promise to cook one of my favorite recipes but cut up fresh garlic instead- guess what- she was right- fresh chopped garlic is MUCH better & makes all my dishes MUCH better. I was SHOCKED at the difference- really. Also, my Mama taught me that when you scrape veggies & such off your cutting board- turn your knife upside down & use the dull edge to scrape. If you drag the sharp edge over your cutting board- it dulls the knife much more quickly. Ok- thanks for the demo- I'll subscribe & watch some more of your creations! Happy Cooking, JalapenoJane

I was good with everything until the chicken (RAW) was added LAST??!! I would saute the chicken first or separately... to prevent food poisoning / ecoli / salmonella. I would think the roux should be added last
@BB-el4rm7 жыл бұрын
while i agree about cooking the chicken first, food poisoning shouldn't be a problem since it gets baked in a very hot oven for a good amount of time (after it gets cooked on the stove first). Chicken need only to be about 165°F to eliminate bacteria.

I'm going to try the sour cream addition to my filling. I'm going to try your crust too. On "overcooking" the chicken. My experience is that if you cook chicken (or any meat) under a liquid such as your filling that it won't get tough. This won't cook the juices out like it would in a dry pan. Overcooking will however, eventually cook it into shredded strips of meat if you over do it.
@bbstucki8 жыл бұрын
I agree with most meats, but chicken breast is the exception. It somehow can lose all its moisture into a sauce., especially if you buy frozen. I've experienced this way to many times when I make any saucy chicken dishes. I've learned to cook just until white and then get off the heat, then the chicken is tender and juicy.
@lifehappens64476 жыл бұрын
Your cooking reminds me of my grandfathers cooking. I miss him so much. He used to make pot pies the same way, I now make them. I use hwc or cream cheese if I don't have sour cream. Lol.
