I don't think I would've bothered with a roll cage for two reasons. 1. I makes the car lighter. 2. If I were to wreck this car I would not want to live. Like a captain going down with his ship.

Richard, Sir Frank Williams (of the formula 1 team) would not be a quadriplegic had the car he was driving had a roll cage. So there's two ways to look at it. Modern roll cages are extremely light. Rough guess on the e-type, no more than 10kgs or 25lbs. But yes, l would probably want to kill myself if l wrecked this beauty!

"If I wrecked this car I wouldn't want to live." I laughed really hard when I read that. It's not a matter of materialism... we all know we can't take it with us. But what we drive represents what we're all about. If you have a dream where you're in a car, the car represents who you are or what you are what you do and how you benefit the world or not. For me, I once had it all. I had retired at 55. Then the love of my life for 22 years traded in her angel wings for a broomstick. ( now you know why I use hey Sam Kinison avitar.) I went from what my friends called a mini Mansion to living in an old motorhome and drove an old beat-up pick up until just a few days ago when I was able to buy a nineteen-year-old S-Type Jag with only 90,000 miles on it. There's not a scratch on it, or a crack in the wood and the leather doesn't even have any checking in it. It looks brand new. It took nearly a year to save the money to buy this thing. I have to pay extra for premium gas. If I have a repair it's going to be expensive and I have to park as far away from the Walmart entrance as possible and walk just not to have somebody give me a door ding. Why do I endure all of that? Because it makes me feel normal again. Just normal. Not pretentious, just normal. I guess that's why I found your comment so well-placed. Anyhow, whether intended or not that car is like an XKE on steroids. I've had five Jags... not that that met that makes me an expert, but the XKE is the most beautiful car ever sculpted and the S-Type though totally different with its classic styling comes in second to the XKE. If I could have any car I wanted and money didn't make any difference it would be an XKE. Of course the Austin-Healey 3000 back in those days where was breathtaking as well. Okay ....That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I don't quite understand this car. To my knowledge (And I am no expert, to be sure!) There were two Low Drag Coupes made. One was commissioned by a fellow named Dick Protheroe, with license plate CUT 7. The other was commissioned by a young German Dealer named Linder. and had plate 4686 WK. Peter Linder was killed at Montlhery in the mid sixties in his 4686 WK. Here is where my problems start. Both these cars never had NACA duct work, they didn't have vents at the rear to exhaust cabin air, the roof line was very different and the ellipse at the front was far larger. IIRC 4686 WK had FOUR headlights, not two...this is doing my head in.

as mentioned in the video, this is not a reproduction of the Low Drag Coupe but rather the 12 Lightweight E-types which followed...specifically a recreation of one of the 6 cars Jaguar decided to make in 2014 from the 6 "dormant" serial numbers from that project. if you look at pictures of that car (49FXN) it does indeed have the NACA duct, only 2 headlights etc

Looks oddly similar to the one I built.... The doors on mine were bigger though, because I'm fat.

Nicer than original but not the best looking. It would be cool if this was THE car that brought back meats.

Yeah...(sighs)...isn't it just. What this guy is done, is simply "Pay Homage" to a true classic. And he has done it just beautifully.

Looks really nice. Not world's best, but VERY nice. I'd take a 60s porsche 911 for looks.

I think what he created is beautiful, it does seem to make him happy as he smiles a lot. I would have left off the Jag badges and all the non race stuff and set it to run on slicks but I'm not against what he made (or paid someone to make, those craftsmen have to eat too). I got to work on a lightweight E type when I did race car electrics and saw first hand how those cars only barely resemble the street versions. All the ones I've ever seen were right hand drive which puts the driver on the other side of the exhaust system which protruded into the cockpit area preventing a passenger seat and allowing more ground clearance. The hood did not hinge, but it did come with a wheeled dolly that you placed it on when removed. I'm pretty sure the alternator ran off the diff. The headers were old school hand made and not at all like the smooth joint mandrel bends of modern headers. When you sat in the car you could see light pouring in from outside pretty much everywhere, you would have gotten soaking wet in the rain and full of dust and debris. But the biggest difference between the original and this car is the lack of rivets, the originals had them everywhere and the more they raced the more were added and sadly you can't see a single rivet on this car.
