You can get vegetable gelatin, but I doubt they did on the show, veggie gelatin is always 3x the price more than traditional gelatin everywhere I've seen it.

Usually, the gelatin alternative is xanthan gum in most commercial products, or agar agar. I usually see xanthan gum in most things but agar agar more frequently with people who make their own food, or from places like Trader Joe's/Whole Foods.
