I've just ordered one before I saw your video because, like you, I was intrigued by the price and also quite taken by the looks. At that price you don't expect applied indices or an accurate movement but it seems that's exactly what you do get. If you had said it cost £40 to £50 I wouldn't have thought anything of it because quite honestly it does look worth a lot more than it costs. I shall be intrigued to see what mine looks like, but on the other hand, I won't be disappointed if I end up binning it because it's just an experiment to see if £11 to £12 really does get you something that is genuinely useful that you're not ashamed to wear. Props for not being a snob and giving it a fair and unbiased review.

All said and done this remains a smart, automatic watch that tells good time and looks fairly decent for a shade over the price of a few beers in the pub. I think this is a good entry into the auto watch world and will make many potential customers very happy. Its no Omega - but then again - who cares (other than the firmly rooted watch nerds). I like a good watch, I good a few half decent pieces in my tiny collection, but this is a capable unit al said! I hope you enjoy yours - watch out for the bracelet - its shocking!!

I love it. I bought it and decided to change out the stainless band with a aquaterra knockoff silicone with clasp. It really sharpened it up It made the lugs not look to high. I like the chunky look this watch is as that is the fashion lately. Thanks for the video.

The FNGEEN is still going well and keeping time, I had it out yesterday and it still looks good for the price - a great start point for a person interested in automatic watches.

I bought an FNGEEN a couple of months back with a gloss black finish on the case and bracelet and it didn't hold up being out in the sun all day.
@AvroBellow2 жыл бұрын
Great minds seem to think alike because I also pronounce "FNGEEN" as "F N Gene". I've seen some other KZbinrs with less than stellar lingustic skills trying to say "Fin-Geen" or something to that effect. It's quite entertaining! I have three of the s925 Automatic Subs (Black, Blue and Green), and two of the white dial with blue hands Aqua Terras (One Automatic and one Quartz). Interestingly, the crystal on the Quartz variant is not domed like the Automatic but flat. Regardless of how inexpensive they are, I couldn't help but be impressed with their elegance and no-nonsense functionality. I would like to point out that the vast majority of what can be found on Amazon or eBay are also made in China so Aliexpress is in fact not all that different from what we Westerners would consider to be the norm. As for the movement, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were just a Tonji C.U.M. (abbreviation for "Chinese Unified Movement"). Since you've been wearing the watch for two weeks, I'm quite certain that you would have noticed if it was wildly inaccurate without having to resort to an app. With this watch however, I believe that you do get considerably MORE than you paid for. I think that you've done a fine review and I wish you a free pint of Boddington's best. Cheers!
@TheChapsGuide2 жыл бұрын
I'll enjoy that pint, many thanks. My son has been enjoying the watch for well over a year now, it is indeed a fine piece for the remarkable price point.

@@TheChapsGuide A Chinese standard movement. In fact, Chinese watches are an area of fascination. You should look into their manual and automatic tourbillons. Most extraordinary. Marques such as Seagull, Peacock & Hangzhou. Reef Tiger is also of interest - a flying tourbillon for £600. Unbelievable! No wonder A. Lange & Sohne object to people taking photographs of the £140K+ pieces in their shop window on Bond Street.

My first automatic watch was a Seiko 1978 and I still have it somewhere. I have a new well two year old kinetic Seiko and in the sale it cost me £250. The same watch now uf you can find it is £700. It's not expensive Its an investment. I also own a Tag which cost me more than I wanted to pay but I've been after one for donkeys years. Lastly a Maurice Lacroix dress watch. How they make it so cheap is beyond reason but it sounds horrendous but looks ok, ish.

Seiko 5 is a nice entry-level piece, but this is literally fish and chip dinner money I wouldn't touch it out of principle. If you factor in the packaging, shipping costs and material cost, the Chinese chap that had to put that together is probably on 20p per hour. £13..? Two cods and double chips please!
@TheChapsGuide4 жыл бұрын
I agree entirely, the disposable culture that we now live in has reached its zenith in this watch. It is almost inconceivable that a fully functioning automatic watch can cost this little.
@MisterBurtonshaw4 жыл бұрын
Nowt wrong with the good old Seiko 5, a good watch chap will make it run quite well indeed.
@Alias_Anybody4 жыл бұрын
Well, that's kinda easy to explain: The Chinese government heavily subsidizes shipping, and it's packaged in bubble wrap. The production of the movement is heavily automized with little (human) quality control involved, the case isn't steel which would require some work but a cheap alloy of mostly zinc cast in a mold, then plated with nickel and chrome. Almost every piece of fabric you've ever held in your hands will have had worse working conditions involved in its production than this watch. In summary I'd argue that the ethics-argument against the watch is kind of dodgy.
@TheChapsGuide4 жыл бұрын
You make some valid points sir. I have recently decided to be more responsible with my future purchases in respect to the global picture of manufacturing. This does mean I will be paying more for many of the goods I have previously taken for granted as being remarkably cheap - but this is my little stab at diplomacy.

For about 6 quid you can get a saphire crystal in whatever size you like from China..... the press to remove and replace the glass is 7 quid.. ish

I think the ethicacy of this piece is what bothers me the most. I simply cannot believe it cost so little money. Some poor chap must have put this together for less than peanuts as a living wage for it to cost so little. I'm out of the luxury China market from now on, this has sealed it for me really.

The one I bought for this review is still ticking along and going well. I'm still amazed you can crank out watches like this for the prices that they charge. I cannot certify the accuracy of watch, but for sure it looks Ok and works OK. For a shade over £10, that's basically 2 beers in a cheap bar. Not bad when all things considered.
