so i know you probably won't reading this cuz for good reasons you review comments 3 hrs after a video launches... but i almost cried with this video. ive been watching you for years. a drug store make up experimenter, i've bought several high end products on your recommendation ( that i don't regret) ... but u described me to a T. im a literalist. i can't approximate. when you said to the pupil of your eye,and this part that covers your eye ... i literally cried. i know pathetic. but im constantly like.. wait tight line?? or movable lid, or i can't even begin... ty❤

Brilliant Charlotte! This could be a series: basic makeup; party look; using shimmers/metallics; how to use any eyeshadow palette; how to apply blush, bronzer, contour & highlight on one cheek!; how to use lipliner for those of use traumatized by Tammy Faye Bakker (asking for a friend😉)

My top tip is for those with oily lids specifically. I spent decades just thinking I was rubbish at makeup, or I couldn't use it, because my eyes always ended up a mess. Until I realised, I have oily lids. And science - oil breaks down make up of all sorts, including waterproof mascara, because it's not oilproof mascara. And uhh, we often use cleansing OILS to remove make up. Science was telling me what was wrong the whole time and I never noticed. I use a really good eyeshadow primer now - like NARS smudge proof - whenever I put anything on my eyes. This includes eyeshadow of all types, powder - liquid - etc, liner, mascara. The primer HAS to go on. The first time my eye look lasted the day I nearly cried with happiness, except obviously I didn't want to ruin said eye look. Also, the mascara you used here Charlotte, the Hourglass Unlocked is a tubing mascara which is my other top tip for oily lid ladies. It doesn't go anywhere. I am no longer a panda but a person. :)

I have the same issue and found the Hourglass eye primer was a game changer - my eye make up now stays put all day. Still trying to find my holy grail face primer though!

I have been wearing makeup for 45 years, but I like to be up to date on my application. Thank you Charlotte.

Same. As I’ve aged, I’ve learned that while my product type doesn’t really need much change, the methods required need to evolve occasionally. As an example, my way of applying blush needed adjustment this year. No more smiling for placement on the apples - just ends up in little creases. I’ve also had to adjust eyeshadow placement-not really due to trends, but due to age.

I'm not a beginner in that I have been wearing makeup for over 20 years, but there is always something new to learn, especially as you are pretty much like a pro makeup artist in terms of skill! Great video idea, I like quick easy looks for work days when I don't have much time for makeup

I've been doing my makeup for decades, but I love to see your "basic" instructions because I always learn something new. Your use of the sponge and brushes makes so much sense. Thank you, Charlotte!

As a normal person, working a normal job (not in front of cameras or in super exposed roles) I feel primers are an overkill. Modern formulars were created to work with bare skin. So the base products when applied on moisturized skin, get a bit eaten up and become one with my skin. 😅 And due to this process, they tend to look waaay more natural than with a barrier product in between. They still last for a business day. And I am an oily girl. 😅 So for absolute beginners, I always recommend something like Lisa's skin tint, some light powder, no bronzer/contour but something sculpting like the MAC glow play blush in "blush, please" and a super easy eyeshadow palette in browns to play with (Lancome hypnose no.18, one of Lisa's sets, whatever they like from Charlotte Tilburry - these formulars just WORK 😅). Basically as few layers as possible. And if it needs to stay put: CTs Setting Spray. This somehow looks more natural than a primer.

Very good video ❤ of course not all products working for everybody. The powder from pat mcgrath for example contains alcohol which would be a nightmare for my undereyes but of course I understand what the message of this video is. Thank you ❤😊

What a great video!! I’ve been doing my makeup for a long time, but I always feel like something is “off” with my application. This really gives me a bit of confidence! A tip I’ve learned is to allow your bronzer (and blush) to double as eye shadow. You don’t have to worry about the colors not “going together” with the rest of your makeup, and it helps save money. Thanks again, Charlotte!!❤

This was very useful, thank you. The only thing: I have a very small mouth with thin, not well defined lips so “then you just add some lipstick” makes me still feel a bit, well, confused I guess 😅

I’m sure Charlotte will have a great tip, but there are brands that make lipsticks with a very thin bullet that might better fit your lip shape, I think hourglass has one.

The foundation doesn't match. Aren't your friends going to notice? It's also not blended between her eyes. Maybe that's because she's using a monitor rather than a mirror, so it's fixable. But the color is too dark and too warm. She forgot to mention that luminous blush can make large pores or other texture more obvious. You don't need highlighter. Every step is optional. If you have visible pores matte blush is best.

Charlotte, thank you this is so helpful! I love the LE shadows, I’ve used them nearly every day since they launched and I’m going back for more shades. They’re the only shadows I can rely on not to crease and they’re so easy to use. Will rewatch this especially for your tips on using concealer as my under eyes look worse when I use it! It always creases, making lines look worse and I’m not sure I’m using the correct shade.

I have the worst under eye circles they tell me I need color correction so I don’t look grey - then they say it’s easier to add darkness than to remove darkness so some say you need a few shades of concealer and to put the brighter shade on the lower art of the eye- and then you set it, make sure to work it in the puff or tap off excess on a brush and then pat pat-all I know is it seems concealer just looks terrible in person - and seems to highlight texture and this one annoying line under my one eye- on camera it’s amazing but I’m not living life on camera - do you have any advice?

Excellent video, I think I’ve been doing something wrong, after I put on my sunscreen and let it absorb for 15 minutes I’ll do my eyes then after the 15 minutes I’ll put on my primer, I’ve never waited long, maybe 1 minute to let it absorb then I apply foundation. About how long should I wait before applying my foundation? Also how long should I wait after foundation to apply powders, etc? Thank you❤

Is 3 N ur summer shade in the Dior stick ? I am trying to figure out which to buy 3n or 3.5 N . It looks beautiful on u , I also have the Stick bronzer in 2 tan in my cart. It's the only foundation type product I'm interested in this sale because i usually use nothing or the LE Skintint.

No, beginners need to buy high street until they know the right colours for them. For instance, the beginner may not buy the correct item by Dior or Charlotte Tilbury.
