Pull your trolling motor up out of the water... it creates a lot of drag and effect your top speed ..especially against the current. Plus it puts undue pressure and stress on your trolling motor shaft.

I pick up to about 8-10 in the ocean with my Pond Prowler 10 with just a 3.5 Merc. You should have gotten more out of that 4hp. It looks like your troller was deployed, so maybe that hurt things. Plus these boats love it when you're perfectly centered front to back so it can get up on plane. I get from Mission Bay San Diego up to the La Jolla kelp in 45 minutes when it's glassy and no swell and that's a good 9-10mph average. If I'm loaded with my lobster gear or my teenager, I lose 1-2mph. Plus if you've got the Short shaft, you're probably ventilating too. I have the long shaft.

I was thinking the same thing. I doubt these will get on plane like an aluminum boat, but trimming it back just a little will get some of that bow out of the water and run faster. Too much and I'm going to guess the steering will suffer.

With my Hanhkai 6 HP the transom flexes down at before it is at full throttle. So somewhat below 6 it flexes. By flex i mean the transom part is buckling the plastic and it returns back when running the motor not wide open. My boat is a used boat.. i have no idea if the past owner used a large motor or not. Anyway to use my rig at its full 6 HP I need to build a brace to handle the torque of the 6 HP Hangkai. By torque i mean the force of the propeller times the shorts shafts propeller to transom distance is causing the transom to buckle on mine. When it buckles the transom goes through the bulk of its angular change when you reach the point it buckles. It returns back at lower HP.

I’m thinking about buying a small outboard to for my pond prowler which is similar to your raider. Any advice on whether to go full hp size of 5hp or was 3.5 hp good enough. Did the boat track well with the motor or is there lots of resistance
@TallFisherJ2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t recommend more than a 4 unless you reinforce the transom. And i personally don’t think anything over 10 mph is safe sense your center of gravity is so high up with the way these boats are designed Just my opinion :)
