Cool video. I've been interested in powered canoes for rivers. I would rather have a steering wheel instead of a tiller.

In a moderately loaded 17’ Grumman with 2 guys with an evinrude 7.5 horse we were cruising at 12 mph.

The instructions for the original Scanoe suggested casting a concrete weight for the bow. ( HD garbage bag inside a burlap bag, placed in the bow of the boat that's been carefully leveled in 4 dimensions. A bag of Quickcrete is mixed up and poured into the bags, which are clinched up tight as possible and left to harden. It molds the bottom into position. It's heavy, and a hassle, but necessary. ) Without a passenger in front, or sufficient weight, or a forward operator position w/ extended tiller ( as shown ) the Scanoe should Not be run with a motor.

Nice speed test man. I have a little grumman sport boat and I hope to get decent speed out of it with my old 7.5 evinrude. I rebuilt the fuel pump on it and I am hoping it will be fast enough to go up river at Lee's Ferry.

Hi there can you tell us where you got that arm for your motor so you dont have to hold it directly from the motor?

Nice video, i have a 17ft double pointed alu canoe, that ive been running a sidemounted 4hk and 6 hk outboard...it worked out great. but i just built a motormount so i can have the motor at the "rear" of the canoe. just picked up my old 9.9hk yamaha ;) . living in sweden so the season is over sadly. but its going to be intresting to see what speed i can get next year!

cool comparo, im running a 31/23 pushing a 17 Pelican squareback. I see you use the tiller extender

I've been looking at the Bassraider but a friend is selling me their square back canoe for $50. So this looks like the better option for me. I am looking at putting outriggers on the boat, so I don't have the unfortunate incident you did. Would you think outriggers would be better forward or aft on a canoe like you have setup?
@Elcompaserg132 жыл бұрын
Nice upgrade, I went from a PondProwler to a 13ft valco. Opens up more waterways to fish in . I agree I that bass raiders should be in ponds and lakes.

I have an old town 15' Square back with a 4hp merc converted to 6hp. I've played with motor height, prop, and hydrofoil. The fastest I can get it to is 16mph with no gear. I recently borrowed a 9.9 2 stroke merc from a friend and hit 23mph. Still in testing but I think it'll get to 25mph. I have reinforced the transom with 1" thick HDPE.
@shawnhuis9016 Жыл бұрын
You must reinforce a transom with aluminum flat bar then it may support a 9.9 However initial acceleration will probably cause immediate capsize and death

Descent set-up. I'd install a carrying yoke then bust your back lifting 120 lbs of plastic onto your shoulders. Wenonah royalex lay-up and 6 hp suzuki . Much better!

me and a buddy were getting 8mph in my scanoe. i am thinking about getting a 10hp. 8mph is just too slow.
@TallFisherJ2 жыл бұрын
For two people in a canoe with equipment, 8 mph is pretty good if you ask me haha. be safe out there these boats aren't built for much more speed than that

Plenty fast enough. I have a 15ft grumman flat back canoe and use a longtail mud motor on it which is great for small kansas creeks and rivers. it will plane out but I usually keep it around 7-9 mph.
@TallFisherJ2 жыл бұрын
Nice! Yeah I typically stay around 10 when it’s calm and 7-8 when it’s a little choppier out

I’m about to order a 6 for mine how fast do you think your going? And is it stable enough?
@smokenjoe40225 ай бұрын
@BramsConstructionLLC Barns I would recommend Rolland Martin’s video on his boat collection! His first boat is a canoe he’ll show you how to both stabilize it and keep a canoe from sinking! Good luck Brother! I’ve upgraded my to a 9.9 Yamaha and it flys!

Them extension poles with the joint in them kind of scare me. I know they’re nice for turning, but I think if you didn’t have that join in it, you would’ve flipped your boat
