@apeture_explorer48109 ай бұрын
I feel hesitant to say, but I think the earlier models made by the intern were more compact than this one. They were totally self contained, had comparable speed, etc. The major shortcoming was the electronic controller, but the solution here just made another big hip mounted element... They scrapped the spool and made a custom part that was used for variable rope length, but there are practical limitations to the value of rope length in a device like this, and ways to make the rope thinner while maintaining strength to accommodate a more finite spool size too...

I used to work for a 18-wheeler roadside tire repair company in a call-center that covered US and Canada. Driver would call in, I'd contact his company to give them options (tire brand options, eta for repair, price, ect). At least once a week, I'd get a call, give my greeting, and hear some French expression and ended call. We were also the designated "after hours" for some city's utility vehicles and such. Meaning that if they had a problem when shops were closed, they could call us and we had a list of who was working that night to contact directly. One of these was Edmonton. One night, one of their workers calls needing a new tire. As we talk he suddenly stops with the information I need and says "Alright, hang on. What is with your accent, bud? I thought I was calling *local tire shop*." I explain the after-hours thing. "Oh, ok. Where the hell are you from?" Me "Well, I'm originally from Texas but our call-center is in Arkansas." Him "I'm dealing with a damn American?!" Me "Could be Quebec." Him "That's...a damn good point actually. Sorry. So anyway, I have a...*blah blah*" /brilliant Hacksmith ep, as always.
