Fun Fact: The most complicated part of a real M134 is the de-linking mechanism. Aside from that component the rest of the gun is similar to a gatling gun from 200 years ago. Bonus Fun Fact: The name minigun comes from the fact that the M134 is a scaled down version of a 20mm Vulcan Rotary Cannon.

It would potentially make reloading a heap easier too. Just make a hatch on the belt that exposes the ends of 4-5 cases, load them, then crank the chain and repeat 99-124 times until loaded links come back around. A lockout on the firing mechanism would allow the blaster to crank the chain suitably with a single click of the trigger, so open hatch, load, click, repeat would seriously reduce reloading time. Another option would be to enable the blaster to ammo count backwards whilst reloading (as opposed to a count reset when fully loaded) so you know how many projectiles are loaded at any given time

Are there actual gatlings that even have to spin up before firing? For full speed, of course you need to, but just to fire? That always annoyed me on Return to castle Wolfenstein.
@user-zs8eo3tx9o Жыл бұрын
@@nos9784 as far as I know, there’s no variation of the Gatling gun, mechanical or electric, that is able to “spin up” like in video games. The spinning both cycles and fires the weapon so meaning it’ll start firing as soon as it starts spinning. An easier way to look at it might be that the trigger doesn’t actually fire anything so much as simply spinning the barrel. The action of the barrels spinning is what fires the weapon. I’m not very good at explaining things so it might make more sense to watch a video of how mini guns fire
@minigunmania Жыл бұрын
@@user-zs8eo3tx9o where did this notion of "miniguns don't need to spin up" come from? I'm geniunely curious. I'd love to see a single video that states that as a fact (falsely). I don't know if I can link youtube urls here, but you can easily search it up. In youtube, search "minigun slow motion". See if there's a single minigun / vulcan cannon(20mm/30mm) that shoots instantly. All of them have a brief spinup time(~0.25 sec). The fact that a huge amount of people correct the "false notion" of the minigun needing a spinup time saying that the real one fires instantly has been bugging me a lot. I'd like to know where the origin of that statement comes from.

At 3000 RPM, the MOAB is definitely within the range of fire rate for the actual M134 Minigun. The M134 Minigun has a rate of fire between 2000 and 6000 RPM. I have to say, just listening to the MOAB, it also sounds like the M134 too just with lower volume. I'd say you need to do a demolition demonstration video with different targets at a range. You might want to dedicate a day to printing out and loading around 3000 to 6000 more linker shells with and just put them all in a large cardboard box to the side of the shooter. Might also be a neat idea to put together some sort of mounting tripod for it so you can just walk up to it and take turns firing it.

This will turn you into the Heavy Weapons Guy, and give you a Russian accent. This is actually full stop better than any airsoft version, because of what it fires, and how it just spews shell casings, just like the real thing. I kind of wonder if there is the possibility of changing around the shells to use standard NATO disintegrating belt links, that would help a lot with the print time. Or, there's some other kind of off the shelf solution, to eliminate having to 3D print that part.

I love the concept, and obviously this is one of those "Because its cool" things, so I know its unfair to say the Proton Pack just seems way more viable with much less work. Make no mistake, if I was absurdly rich, I'd be buying at least 10 of these things and hiring a crew to reload them on special occasions. I'm guessing a redesign of the chain so maybe every 5th or 10th chain link coming undone is the first upgrade in mind, if only so your not rebuilding every single link? I know it takes some of the fun out of it, but it seems like the tedious act of rebuilding the entire chain is the biggest issue with it's marketability.

Gatling Tommy should totally open source the chain linking ammo, this may be a game changer for chain fed blasters of ALL TYPES!!!

Super cool! Now imagine a return line that takes the spent cartridges and puts them back into the backpack without the need for delinking. I'd love to buy one of these just to have it

honestly, that would make the only real drawback the reload time.

1: I think this minigun qualifies for you to recreate the Meet the Heavy video from TF2. 2: Do you think down the line a 1:1 replica of the Heavy's minigun could be made using this system? It looks like all the parts are there they just gotta be tweeked a bit

You said filters, screens, things can make that digital display computer/ammo counter display might not come clear to us always. But so far it's been not obscured or blurred or anything anytime it's been to the screen or in view any where and on I've been able to see and read it, noticed early early when beginning video demo was on and another reason my jaw dropped and I was so super stoked to follow through the rest of video and you guiding us!

I could see this being viable for an attack and defend type of scenario game. Some sort of stationary juggernaut next to the capture point.

Yeah but ammo would be a problem, if you only get 9 seconds of firing, your team would run out of ammo almost instantly

If you want to capture the links and casings there's one option, get rid of the disintegrating link option and have the links and casings go back into the backpack. The gatling systems of aircraft (US) do not eject casings and links. They go back into the magazine.

In all seriousness, I'd want a left-handed version not just for the lefties out there, but to rig a pair up and do your best impressions of dual minigun wielding that you see mini-bosses and bosses do in combat games (would probably require a trigger on the handle grip next to the fire-selector). Even without actual darts, the sound and visual would also make for a great cosplay base; moreso if the barrels can be swapped to longer ones just for visual purposes. The backpack separately would also be a great basis for other custom blaster designs; such as a blaster MG-42 and pulling a Jin-Roh cosplay where they pull a belt of about 60 rounds, load it into the gun, then burst fire it before grabbing another link of 60 rounds, or pulling off a 40k design with a blaster Bolter that instead fires MEGA Darts, MEGA XL Darts, or the AccuStrike Darts.
