In the 21st century battlespace, winning requires the next technological breakthrough … the kind that only unmanned systems pioneer General Atomics Aeronautical Systems can deliver.
Their groundbreaking Predator and Reaper provide the foundation for the next-generation autonomous wingman: the Collaborative Combat Aircraft.
With two unmanned jet types flying today, more than 10 years leading on autonomy and more than one thousand dedicated software engineers, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems is transforming the future of airpower - today.

What if you could fire artillery while you were still moving? What if human beings had the capability to do the artillery version of drive by shootings? Are we responsible enough to handle such a power? Hopefully because That’s exactly what the new RCH 155 self propelled artillery is designed. This gives artillery the ability to shoot while scoot for the first time in history.
The Ukrainian military will receive its first batch of 18 out of 54 by the end of 2024 when they will make their combat debu. Great Britain is acquiring 116. And
US Army Futures Command chief Gen. James Rainey hinted the US military might be looking to acquire this system when he said quote “There are some very good wheeled howitzers that are having great effect in a place like Europe,” end quote. Rheinmetall’s CEO also claimed that the US Military was interested in acquiring the one of a kind weapon system.

@@krisfrederick5001I fkn love RUSE, but unfortunately that thing is damn hard to find - it was delisted from sale years ago due to expired licences, and the remaining physical copies keep getting more expensive, and it is luck whether the key is even still good. I don't even know what the situation is with getting access to the excellent Japan DLC. Given it is abandonware, I consider sailing the high seas to be a reasonable recourse, but from a quick look it didn't even seem to be available.

Take a look at the Swedish Bandkanon. It was mobile artillery but, developed in the 1960s, it didn't fire while mobile. It'd move into position, then unload its entire load of 15 rounds in 45 seconds (shoot, with autoloader) before scootin'. The Swedish military had determined that, firing on Soviet positions, everyone was under cover in about 45 seconds so they pointedly designed the weapon to do all its firing in that timeframe. The successor to it, the Swedish Archer system, can fire three rounds, in 15 seconds, and scoot before the first round has landed. It can empty the entire mag (20 rounds) in 2.5 minutes and reload in 10. Eight of these have been sent to Ukraine. Because they have to shoot, then scoot, Bofors focused on rapid firing rate with the auto-loader. The ability to shoot while scootin' ... potential game-changer. This could make all such systems obsolete.
@avarion9538
@avarion9538 Ай бұрын
One thing with the swedish archer is, it's mounted on a regular truck. You don't need a lot of training to repair it. Keeping some weapons simple, for "dirty" wars withour real bases, is something, sweden does a lot. Cheap, simple and effective

@@nextechsolutions5955 for many mobile western artillery units in Ukraine (Pzh2000, Caesar etc) the counter artillery fire isnt the major threat, given they can fire from and rest/hide outside the range of the russian artillery. Their problem is mostly the spotter drones and loitering ammo in the current conflict. The bigger impact of eliminating the stop will come from the reduced delay between getting a fire request to actually firing ... no looking/planning for a secure fire position and no traveltime there, thereby reducing the chance that a potential target moving on and ruining the fire solution. By the first sign of enemy activity those RCH can get on the road and just circle the area until target data comes in, rdy in almost every moment of their mission. Especially important in the many situations now where one of the russian meat waves has to be stopped.

@@notastone4832 Well, since I was a FISTer and also did time in a MLRS unit I kinda do. It does in fact require a good degree oif accuracy, but more importantly, it takes time. This thing would have an entire minute at a minimum to scoot after firing. Probablyt a couple of minutes. It can make quite a distance in that time. Assume it gets one minute to run after firing. Even moving at a measly 20 kph, it could cover over 300m in that time. Double the speed, double the distance. This is a massive problem for counterbattery - rocket or tube. They'll probably have to task FPVs for it.

As much as the RCH 155 may be odd looking, it certainly seems capable, many countries have already bought them and many others are interested. As a Brit I'm glad we decided to go down the wheeled route instead of tracks, sure they don't offer quite the same level of go anywhere capability but they are generally more mobile and easier to maintain.

mobility of this kind does nothing for the lancet threat, which is the main killer of Ukraine’s SPG as documented by the extensive lancet strike archive on LostArmor’s website. I’d be more excited about effective EW and more shell than I am about this. Cool toy, but it’s provided in negligible amounts to Ukraine, its unproven, and it solves a problem that doesn’t account for many of Ukraines killed SPG. It’s naked propaganda meant to distract us from the fact that we are not doing enough to aid Ukraine.

Aussie's opted for the Boxer CRV A2/3 hybrid with Spike LR missiles and Iron Fist active protection and even managed to get a contract to produce 103 of the same spec vehicles for the German Army due to the fact they want these vehicles ASAP. The RCH 155 would be a good fit for us Aussie's due to the fact towed artillery has been made vulnerable in the Ukraine war, but one question needs to be asked he said it's easily can be transported by air, that might be a C-17..... but can it fit inside a C-130J Hercules?

If the shells can course correct, or self target when over a target area, then shooting on the move doesn't matter for counterbattery fire. Being able to shoot without minutes of set up is more important here.

Doesn't shooting on the move let you do counterbattery while advancing (eg thunderrun) and if the enemy has smart shells any time stopped is dangerous.

Even if they don’t course correct, modern fire control systems are so accurate and reliable, you can select the target you want to fire on, hold the trigger, and the system will only fire once it’s guaranteed to hit The computers really do most of the work nowadays

@petergerdes1094
@petergerdes1094 Ай бұрын
@@Grimshak81 True but good self-guided shells also do inertial guidance and should be able to get an initial fix from the firing unit (which must know where they are to fire). Besides, it's going to be damn hard to jam GPS artillery shells during most of their trajectory as they achieve miles of elevation. By the time they can be jammed they'll be on course.
@agsystems8220
@agsystems8220 Ай бұрын
@@petergerdes1094 GPS is a signal from low powered (44W) satellites thousands of miles away, aimed at the whole earth rather than a target specifically. Receivers are dealing with signals in the sub femtowatt region. Jamming it is a pile of piss. Putting accurate IMUs in a shell being fired out of a cannon is not easy. If you are going to spend that much putting electronics and a control system into a projectile, you might as well use a rocket instead and fire it from a MLRS. The sole reason to use an artillery piece is that the rounds are cheap, but getting complex capability from a rocket is cheaper.

Another great video, Chris. A few points. First, firing on the move is entirely possible with Boxer RCH155, but is actually a bit of gimmick. In most cases, you would stop to fire a mission and then scoot off immediately afterwards. What the shoot on the move capability demonstrates is immediate in-to-action and out-of-action times. This is what counts. Second, the RCH155 will be in Ukraine within months.
