World's FIRST Carbon Fiber SHOTGUN SLUG - ARMOR PIERCING - CONFIRMED!

TAOFLEDERMAUS

TAOFLEDERMAUS

Күн бұрын

We had the pleasure to shoot three custom-made carbon fiber shotgun slugs. We ONLY had three so we could not fudge the results OR take any practice-shots. Never before has there been a carbon fiber bullet or shotgun slug made, so we were not sure what would happen.
Since the slugs came with carbide core penetrators, we decided to see if they would actually defeat AR500 Armor level III body armor.
These slugs were insanely expensive and difficult to machine.
Be sure to check out TIM'S channel, which by doing so, is supporting MY channel as he will send us more cool stuff if we send him cool subscribers!

The placement of the high-speed footage depends on the success of the rounds. If they're good rounds and shots are being placed on target then I'd like the slow mo after each shot. If things are not going according to plan and shots are not landing on target, then maybe having all of the high speed after all the shots so we can have a video biopsy of slow mo, all of the end, might be best

Tim, these are definitely the best slugs performance-wise I've seen you make! That hi-brass shell did impart more force to the plate, given the difference in dent from the first one, but by far the tapered point definitely was the prime factor.

Definitely better in this format. So I'm hearing that velocity wins the day with rifles, but shotguns don't have the same velocity, and therefore are defeated by armor plate. As I understand the powder charge is larger in a shotgun shell, so is there no way to translate the greater potential energy into a faster round?

I mean, it's true. It totally did. My hangup is that those rounds are probably at least as expensive if not more expensive than a comparable AP rifle round, and the magnitude of damage to the target isn't that impressive comparatively. Also, since the smaller profile tip is needed I wonder if it might only be just barely penetrating, and therefore drop off in penetrative power much more quickly. I love shotguns and what you guys are doing on this channel, it's a weirdly beautiful thing. I just can't wait to see when there's an even better option.

Yeah, I'm confident that if I were looking for an "armor piercing" solution, the best bet (by far) is still to go for a rifle, even if I have to buy it first. I hope that one day a shotgun can compete on that kind of price to performance, but... Well, a man can dream.

Jeff, three things. 1) Great video, thanks! 2) I like this style of editing... Keeping each shot in its own section helps me track each projectile and feeds the scientist in me better. 3) I wonder if the velocities weren't similar because the light projectiles kept the extra powder in the high-brass from compressing enough to fully burn before the muzzle was reached, thus wasting some of the potential.
@taofledermaus
@taofledermaus 8 жыл бұрын
+Jeremy McMahan I think there is just a law of diminishing returns. Like, if it take s 100hp to make a boat go 50mph, 200hp won't make it go 100mph.

I like this format better. You used to do it like this, many years ago (I thought, maybe it was just a fluke or how you chose to do it for those specific videos) but the real time shot followed immediately by the slow-mo breakdown is a better choice. Its like taking a test and having it graded the same day, as opposed to getting a bunch of tests back at the end of the semester, when you've already forgotten what all the stuff was

+Anonymaniacal No idea where that came from. Toast was just explaining that Demoranch already shot an arrow out of his shotgun, and rather than waiting for Taofledermaus to make a video about it, Cuvkiller can just go straight to Demoranch's channel. This isn't one of those "I'm so stupid. I'm going to start a comment war just because I have nothing better to do" kind of things. If anything, you're the one being easily offended and trying to start a comment war.

There are already cheaper and more effective ways to defeat body armor with shock plates using plain slugs and junk auto parts. I am not going to get into details because I do not want DHS knocking on my door.
