World's First Electric Mercedes G-Wagen

For the first time ever, Mercedes has released its luxury off-roader as an EV. We went out to the Nevada desert, to check out the G 580. It's an electric SUV that can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. It's packed with loads of amazing tech and cool lighting while still keeping the iconic G-Wagen look.

@@joe_ferreira when you are one a roadtrip you don’t have time? And how long could that roadtrip be? Wouldn’t it be normal to make a brake at least ever 150-200 miles anyways? When I go on roadtrips it normally is on a recreational purpose. Why shouldn’t I be able to throw in some 30 minute breaks and sense the area I’m passing through a little bit. And if I go off-road I sense every little stone and maybe even hear some birds and the rest of the environment instead of the rawling sound of the engine.

@@joe_ferreira concerning the infrastructure it depends on the country you’re in. Here in Europe you can go wherever you want with an EV. From the north of Norway to the south of Portugal.

Its official name is "G Class" and there is already an "E Class". It's a completely different type of car. In Germany nobody says G Wagon or something, we just call it G Class (in german "G-Klasse").

I agree...the car is made "for offroading" yet the cheap plastic front grill already looks like somebody took steel wool to it. I think all these manufacturer's rushed to compete with Tesla and have shot themselves in the foot.

@@thomascampbell7407that’s not unique to electric vehicles though. No sane person would take an AMG G wagon built in the last 10 years off roading. The F150 lighting has shown itself to be capable off road, but that’s because the F150 was already good by default.

Pretty cool. I just did a valve cover gasket job on my 2004 G500, and I must admit, as much as I like the M113 engine, an electric G with almost 300 miles range sounds pretty good.

It works. Until winter time, in the northeast, when the range drops a bunch. As many owners of electric vehicles found out last winter. Hopefully someone will be able to solve for that-eventually. Considering the price range it looks even better when you compare it against the EV Hummer, which is going for about $110k where I live.

Does no one else think it's kind of stupid to sound like a V8 when it's completely and utterly not a V8... And all electric. It's like here I can fake everyone out except for myself while I'm driving... I'm also wondering why there are so many electric cars when there's only one charging station to every 22 gas stations and that's if you're in a Metro or City. Plus, if anyone knows anything about auto mechanics or even auto electrics then you know that the electric car or E-vehicle is 5-10times the amount of $ and time to maintain... And that's a conservative estimate. Oh, and forget about fixing your own vehicle... I don't personally dislike the whole electric progression of vehicles but, I do know that the world is not completely ready for them and until we are...........................................................................
