Whether it works or not I celebrate the fact that people are wanting to invent products to improve caravans. I invented a system where we have 2000w of solar on an 18’ van. On a sunny day you can run the aircon and everything else for at least 7 hours before you start using what’s in the battery. I hope this is a great success for this man.

This is a great innovation. Nicely done folks.

I don’t see why it can’t be tied down. I assume it will be designed to allow for an anti flap kit. Does cost a bit but wonderful potential. So you have to park in the sun just like every other van with solar panels on the roof 😂. Can’t wait to see how it performs longer term. 👍🏻

I love the concept, but in the video the awning seems to sag a fair bit. I currently have a manual awning and use supex de flapper clamps to take up the sag. Can you fit an anti-flap kit to this solar awning?

One thing that they offer are rafters that you can insert to take up some of the tension... but you need to remember to remove them if you leave the van as the built-in wind sensor will bring the awning in automatically when the wind kicks up, and apparently the motor is strong enough to cause damage if the rafter bars are still in place.

Cost will be a deciding factor, great idea though

It's about 6400 for the 16ft

I must admit I am very unsure about this. Firstly, you couldn't tie it down. Secondly, if you use the anti-flap kit, you would have to remember to remove it each time you go out because the weather could change at any time, and if the auto-close kicks in, you could cause a lot of damage. And at around $6400 for a 16-ft, that's a lot of money if you have to replace it plus the cost to the van. 🤔

Brilliant...what does it cost?
@Aussie_Damo7 күн бұрын
5800 for the 12ft and 6400 for the 16ft

Finally ✔️ It will require a flap kit ❌️

Flap kit will prob damage it

Eventually the design will get better , I currently pull my awning in at around 30kph , but when I use the Aussie Traveller Anti Flap Kit I can keep it out until around 40kph.. Cost will eventually come down , maybe a combination of the current panels and the rollable polymer films in the future will be more durable and cost less to manufacture..🤷♂️ kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXvMfqN3rdqBgcksi=oN9O7qOje_ybmxaa kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5CYY2mYm7GFY6ssi=FIgrGH4_QT_5RBug

Now you have to park in the sun. Save the $$$ and get a dethatched ground mounted system.
@Aussie_Damo7 күн бұрын
😂😂 you do realise an awning blocks the sun to create shade and you have to roll it out to generate solar power. Not to mention the caravan is insulated with an aircon.

@Aussie_Damo if you think you can run an air-conditioning system off this you must be dreaming

$6400 for the 16ft $5800 for the 12ft I reckon the awning itself would weigh around 100-150kg. Prob can't use a flap kit incase you squash or crack a cell. Looks like it sags more then an overloaded prado towing a van. Would be great to use when it's not windy otherwise it will be ripped of the van.
