Hello Sir I have a question. I recently bought a vintage navitimer with the AOPA logo on the dial. Made in 1960. My only question is every navitimer I have seen has a 15 on the outer ring. 12 13 14 15 16. Do you have any idea why the 1 is missing on mine. It says 12 13 14 5 16? It has a black dial with champagne sub dials. All original except the bracelet is stainless after market from the Era and the plexiglass crystal has been replaced. It actually keeps better time than my Datejust from 2000. Thank you for reading hope to hear what you think.

Breitling takes the crown for aviators. I was wearing mine on my commercial check ride and actually used it to calculate the diversion part of the test. I remember using the slide rule function and announcing the course of 246 degrees and the required time as 7 1/2 minutes. The examiner gave me an old fashioned look but said nothing. I counted the time down and was dismayed when I had to say we had arrived but I could not see the airport. The examiner took the controls, stood the aircraft on the port wing and said, “Look down”, and there was the runway! He told me on the debrief he was impressed. True story!

I think the El Primero takes the crown of best mechanical chronograph. With its high beat rate and proper 1/10th of a second timing capability. The Speedmaster Moonwatch is a legend of course. Rolex basically nicked Zeniths decade long hard work, tweaked it and made their in house movement -BIG DEAL....Every watchmaker does that these days to badge the "in-house movement".........Few companies in the world have the dedication to make an in-house movement, from scratch which is what Zenith achieved...They did not base it on anything......Rolex may have "ditched" the parts, but they did not design it.....I give more respect for the people who actually make horological history, rather than selling brand value...

I just recorded the time of this video using my very first chronograph! Time recorded is precisely 10:50, first I thought it was because I have a Lucien Rochat; then I realised I had rewound the part about how the Speedmaster was used to prevent certain death on Apollo 13 without stopping the timer. Live and learn.

I have always enjoyed the Breitling Navitimer! I still think it is still one of the most beautiful timepieces made! I like the Zenith and have always loved the Omega Speedmaster! I also like the Bulova Lunar Model. I own a Modern version that has a Citizen 262 kHz Tri tuning fork movement styled after the Bulova Model Prototype worn by Astronaut Colonel Dave Scott. The hesalite crystal on the NASA issued Speedmaster popped off so Scott replaced the Omega with his personal backup prototype Bulova watch. Not only was a Bulova wristwatch worn on the moon but it replaced the broken Speedmaster. This Mission was the Apollo 15 mission in 1971. The Prototype Bulova was extracted from a safe deposit box on Oct 22, 2015 and sold at Auction for $1.625 million. The reproduction is a more “earth friendly” variation with a patented quartz UHF movement. A very accurate timepiece!

I used the same Asahi Pentax MX for 30 years, that you have pictured in every video. My father gave it to me, also had the same Pentax 50mm f/1.4 SMC lense, along with a 35mm f/2.8 and 135mm f/2.5 SMC primes. The 1.4 was my favorite. At the time didn't noticed what kind of masterpiece the MX was and really wanted a Canon A-1 with a 80-200mm f/4 zoom, an wonder electronic SLR. Over the time the MX with it's perfect ergonomics, fully manual settings, professional controls and prime lenses proved completely superior. When it became hard to get the films processed I bought a DSRL but was appalled how bad a new camera was with a dark viewfinder, clumsy controls and zero allowance for creativity. Hopefully will find one day a digital camera that can match the MX. Thank God watches didn't went quartz all together like cameras, with mechanical pieces constantly improving. All three pieces are fantastic, imo. The Navitimer, Primero and Speedmaster are all much better positioned than the Daytona, a definitive bank executive watch or something like that. Which is a shame, because the Daytona eventually became a great watch, very thin with an in-house movement. Even when based on the generic Valjoux 7750 and quite tall, would say that the IWC Pilot Chrono and Carrera Chrono 16 also deserve an honorable mention, by the IWC brand being used by the Luftwaffe and the Carrera having a rich F1 history.

A truly ingenious invention, and something that will never not be admired. I’ve been considering getting the Navitimer over the DATEJUST. Sold my Soeedmaster last year as I fell out of like with it. Only “issue” I’m seeing with the Navitimer B01 is the Q 2 year service they recommend for seals and then the Q 6 year complete service. My Hamilton Chronograph is 15 years old, never had it serviced and keeps perfect time. For $9300, I don’t feel you should have to send it it that often. But again I get it - small gaskets, temperature changes, they’re going to dry out/crack/rot.

Another great review, so well made as ever, these are probably the best watch reviews on KZbin I think. The insanity of Rolex stainless steel Daytona prices here in the UK right now is that the Grey market price is around £18,000 plus. It's £9600 & up to a 12 year waiting list from a Rolex dealer. Which means, if you had that amount of money to spend, and didn't want to wait 12 long years, you could actually get all 3 great watches in this review for the same price as 1 Daytona, and have some change left over...More proof that the world we are living in really is going mad..

The logical successor to the Pre-1978 Navitimer is the current Sinn 903 ST and the most faithful in form following function as well. All improvements to its functioning are conservative, but needful. Improvements over the original Navitimer include: greater shock resistance, greater magnetic resistance, greater water resistance. I think the power reserve is probably improved from the original as well. Each improvement built on the original watch's design. The actual rights to the dial design belong to Sinn and that is why you will not see a major competitor daring to have solid black hands on the sub dials against a white/silver background. Competitors Including Secora/Breitling rhodium plate, chrome plate, use white or silver, but never pure black. Only Sinn.

The Navitimer and speedy are my favorite. Which of them 2 is cheaper to service? 🤔

Got lucky to actually own the speedmaster pro and as well the speedmaster model 376.0822 « holy Grail » really like that one my favorite in fact and at a price in 1988 that has nothing in common with today’s price...as well I do have the Navitimer fighter edition very accurate ETA movement but also have a thought for my PEPSI 16750 Ca. 1981 and it’s Panam story...(not a chronograph I know). They are plenty of chronograph watches that are beautiful but historically wise with it’s impact and long lasting design the Omega speedmaster pro is the one just like you said...😉

Blancpain's flyback chronograph with it's 1850 piguet movement is rather impressive. Thickness is 11mm
