I agree he loved skating but if you read his autobiography it becomes clear there is a sense of boasting. However that was present with all freestylers such as Primo Desiderio. So happy to see that BRAILlE Skateboarding is still covering Freestyle. Rodney is probably the Greatest skateboarder of all time, doing tricks that haven’t even been landed by anyone today…At a time when the ollie and kickflip were just being invented(by him of course). However, we can’t let Rodney’s awesome skill distract us from the talent of modern freestyle skateboarders! I think that’s what mike was getting at. Also, modern freestylers can do many tricks that Rodney Mullen never landed or will land, and that’s just how skating works over time, it progresses.

When I was younger I used to do things like rail slides and primo slides across flat tops. I could pressure flip out of both of them and I was skating with someone one day. He was a friend of a friend so I had only just met him that day. He told me that I'll never amount to anything doing tricks like that. I'll never be anybody because nobody wants to watch flatground skateboarding. This crushed my spirit and since then I've stopped doing all those tricks completely and started favoring more modern street tricks like frontside flips and back nose slides.

Rodney Mullen is a legend. People who don't skate know of him. Literally inveted sooo many tricks. Unfortunately, I feel like this kid is way better. So many variables are involved though...Rodney had to learn these tricks just by trying and imagination. He had no tips or tricks to do these stunts, he literally had to trial and error. This dude has definitely gotten tips from other skaters. Not to mention the growing technology of boards over the decades. He may very well have it easier than Mullen ever did. That being said, I feel like Yuta (forgive me for not spelling that correctly), has way more potential and a lot more time grow his bag of tricks than Rodney. But let's be honest, without Mullen the whole genre of skating wouldn't be where it was today.
