Hey Randy, I'm in TN zone 7a. Passionflower Incarnata grows really well here and I'm wondering if I can grow the other species. Do you think it's possible growing the tropical varieties as an annual here? Will I get flowers? Will I get fruit?
@Architjain129210 жыл бұрын
Love the plant!! and the flowers are just a beautiful beauty!

I don't mean to be a party pooper but that's grandilla, there's a difference in the leaves, inside color
@LeChristEstRoi6 жыл бұрын
Imo, that's neither granadilla nor passiflora quadrangularis. This passion fruit vine is a passiflora decaisneana, an hybrid of passiflora quadrangularis and passiflora alata. The fruit of passiflora decaisneana is almost identical to the ones of passiflora quadrangularis but a little bit smaller.

@richardmyers96092 жыл бұрын
No they aren't all edible, but many are. There are over 450 species. Of the edible ones, some are much better tasting than others.

Im in Missouri and I have wild passionfruit flowers in my yard that get bigger than my palm and the fruit is twice as big as a kiwi. When they turn yellow, they taste delicious.
@Sheikyerbouti810 жыл бұрын
Hi Veronica. That's awesome. You probably have Passiflora incarnata. Those are native here in Florida as well.

I have found contradicting information on the internet. Since you grow it, please clarify, is this plant self-fertile or not?
@Afonso_Guest_House5 жыл бұрын
They are as i have them and good lord the fruits are immense and flowers are very fragrant indeed.
@shurawiira81775 жыл бұрын
@@Afonso_Guest_House so, it is self fertile? one plant alone can bear fruit?
@abc_cba6 жыл бұрын
Hey, Randy , can you tell me how to provide fertilizers to a baby plant that I planted and it has new baby branches . I stay in Central India and it recieves proper sunlight (around 4 hours) as implanted it to a little shady area as the sun here in summer (for 4 months) can reach upto 48°C (119° F). Does it need trellis ? And how much should I water it in a week. It's already summer here and temperatures are around 45°C now (113°F)
@Sheikyerbouti86 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry about fertilizer until it starts to take off and vining vigorously. Yes they need something to grow on. A trellis or a fence. They'll find trees or other structurees to climb on if you don't give them something to climb.

I am looking into getting some some seeds where can I purchase some?
@claudettefaglie9578 жыл бұрын
Are these self pollinating? If not, will a different type of passion flower pollinate these?
@Sheikyerbouti88 жыл бұрын
No, you need a second vine from a different seed. Passiflora alata will pollinate it for sure. There are probably others that will as well. I've tried pollinating it with P. edulis with no luck.
@claudettefaglie9578 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I haven't been able to get any P. edulis seeds to germinate, but I do have other types I can try. I live in NC, and grow my passion fruit in large pots with metal trellis. I had no idea this would get so big.
@Sheikyerbouti88 жыл бұрын
In the tropics, this vine will grow to the top of a 65 foot tall tree and then completely cover the canopy. It's a monster.
@vacciniumaugustifolium14203 жыл бұрын
@@claudettefaglie957 I know its been 4 years but anyway : - P. Quadrangularis is notorious for rarely producing fruit, even under a tropical climate. If you want fruit, try P. Alata, it look fairly similar and can produce fruits even in indoor condition. - If you want your passiflora plant to produce a lot of flowers, it need to stay in relatively small pot.
