You have to HEAR and FEEL this instrument!!!! The sound comes at you from all directions. You can feel it in your chest. It is positively amazing!

A pure jewel. I don't know what it will take and/or cost me, but I will be playing on this instrument one day. 2,3k pipes organ are a thing, but this is much more than just 10x the number. The research, the harmonisation, the way it has been built and the room around... I already love this organ, and I will one day give it my very best.

That pipe organ cockpit is incredible. Photos of this giant organ console were shown in computer science lessons of our university about ergonomics when asking how to design the ideal user interface. Did you notice that the art nouveau console booth originally had doors designed to hide the organist (and protect his hearing) during concert? I can only think of: "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain..." (Wizard of Oz)
@KingdaToro Жыл бұрын
It still has them. They're not for that purpose, though, they're to protect the console. They put them on, for example, when there's kart racing, monster trucks, or rodeo going on on the hall. Really anything dirty. They're also not hinged, you have to completely remove them to "open" them.

The tour should be on anyone's visit to ACY, or Philly. Now that the train service is back up and working, travel is really cheap for the distance you travel. Now if the train to NYC was going again, that would be a a bonus.

That must be so impressive Live. Even in Video, when you just sit there and close your eyes ...it feel so dramatic when you think this whole city was developed with the help of mafiosi's. I need to go hear it myself...I hope they will be able to restore it by the end of 2023.
@TerrapinCreations6665 жыл бұрын
It gave me goosebumps for sure. Very impressive. You're pretty much inside the largest musical instrument in the world, as the building itself is a major part of it.

They really should do some aggressive marketing in NYC and Philly. That location and kind of space, they could definitely fill it up on the regular even today. What a civic gem.

It is rather sad that the convention hall which I remember from the 1950's.on television is no more than a curiosity. I used to help maintain the Kimball organ that Warner Bros had at the Wiltern in LA which is similar to the ballroom Kimball.

The good news is, the Midmer Losh is well on its way to being restored to its former glory. I'm thankful it will be restored in my lifetime so that one day I can hear her roar in person. A special thanks to all whom have donated their time and money to help restore this magnificent organ.

Hm, would be interesting to hear it in a really good recording, which catch the indtrument and the room optimally.

Astoundingly powerful recorded excerpts of the mini-concert towards the end of the video give a glimpse of why the organ was so popular in the early 20th century. The selections were a bit too 'churchy' for my taste, but imagine this organ playing Virgil Fox's transcription of the Star Spangled Banner or a rousing version of America the Beautiful. I want to hear this in person.
@TerrapinCreations6665 жыл бұрын
I'm going back for sure as soon as I can. Our tour was actually cut short because time ran out.

I've heard the M-L in person many times and they've always ended with "The Star-Spangled Banner." If they didn't include it you've really missed a heart-stirring end of the concert. See my page for many amateur videos of the M-L performances that I made.

I was very excited about the Organ Tour as I grew up 2 blocks away on North Mississippi Ave. However, I was very disappointed by the amateur videographer not being able to stabilize the camera. It really took away from the joy of the Organ. The comittee should redo it as it does not do the Organ, the Hall, or Atlantic City any real benefit.
