These are all the space marines we’ve collected over 16 years. It took 12 of us to set them up. I even enlisted help from my kids. AND my parents. As a wargamer, I embrace the joy of collecting miniatures. There’s nothing quite like setting up thousands of plastic figurines and displaying their detail, their paint jobs, AND their sheer epicness.
Some people collect dolls or action figures, others collect LEGO, and then there are those of us who collect Warahmmer. Specifically Adeptus Astartes: which is the official name given to Space Marines by Games Workshop, the manufacturer and creator of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise.
Now you might be wondering: Who collects these things? Who’s dedicated enough to weigh the pros and cons of which paints to apply? (Cuz they start off cold and grey) that’s right! Every single miniature you see was first clipped off a grid of plastic called a sprue, assembled piece by piece similar to a model car, and then individually painted by hand. Who is so hyper-focused to a degree that a very real chemical reaction takes place in their brains if one accidentally calls this group of marines Lamenters instead of Imperial Fists? As an outsider, objectively there’s very little difference, perhaps a shade of yellow or so, but to an avid collector and fan of the franchise, misrepresenting these little guys could elicit a demand for blood and justice!
Think I’m joking? Well, I’m here to tell you this is no joke! This is some people’s livelihood, mine included. For 16 years to be exact.

Not gonna lie, the collection is nice, but what I truly enjoyed was seeing Dave excited and happy. My best to everyone on the channel and to those behind the scenes, editing these videos up, painting models and helping in the store, you're all killing it.

One correction, they first models were not made from Pewter, that came later. The originals were an alloy of lead and tin similar to solder. At some point (I want to say late 80's or early 90's) Places like New York state banned "Environmental lead" and miniatures companies switched to Pewter.

True, but the old formula was much softer, and the newer didn't have much, if any, lead because of the new laws limiting the use of lead in consumer products. I remember the newer models were more rigid and much harder. it made converting quite a bit harder.

So this is why plastic pollution is not being reduced... 150K of tiny, cute, immobile, insentient, plastic models?? and they'll all hand painted to? impressive! but I'll stick to Dawn of war or a more sane PC game with 40k in it. I always shake when I see collections, not because I'm in awe of it, I'm shaking because 1 fire or disaster and its all gone, that is enough to make me not collect anything physical. Unless you guys don't mind spending the next 16 years doing it all over again, oh RIP wallet also.

Insurance is the key. Depending on which country you are in. And who would really want to rebuild such an army? I have 3 armies, Space Marines, Imperial Guard and Necrons. Each army is about $10,000. 20 years of collecting. Also if you value your expensive army so much, I would suggest a fireproof safe to put them inti. The thousands you spend on the safe outweighs the cost of losing 150k points of armies.

I used to collect those too, but GW went to far in last ten or so years with their prices and absolutely TOXIC responses to 3D rpinted minis and its creators. still love my space commies and un-satiated horde. I've switched to "Epic" scale few years ago, will deff stay in it too. far cheaper and can get even more minis on the table than one in "heroic" scale. any estimates the worth of collection? it would be astronomical with current prices...

Layman here (So have mercy ;) Was warhammer 40K first ? As a teenager in the 90thies there was this fantasy version of Warhammer some of my friends were into. I wasn't into it but I liked to watch and helped them paint the figurines . I don't remember if this was the 'age of sigma '. Or maybe something completely unrelated to Warhammer . It had a table top battle field with Orks, knights etc. . I always thought that came first, and 40.K was added on to that later on ?

Warhammer Fantasy came first and Warhammer 40,000 (first called Rogue Trader) was a sci-fi version of it that eventually evolved into its own world. Fantasy is still around today, though it's changed a lot too - it's now called Age of Sigmar.

@@merrittkAha ! Thank you for this comment. I knew it had to be related. I used to make models as a kidof around 10/12 years old . Model Airplanes and such. And I remember having a few friends from school who were into this fantasy game with figurines that all needed to be painted. A lot of work. Now 35 years later I walk by this 'Warhammer ' store almost every day (in The Netherlands ) . IIt made me think about those figurines my firends played with . It' seems as if this Warhammer has become s a huge company by now. Anyway, I noticed there were 40k novels, so I tried a few..And now i'm trying to catch up on the lore.But .there's so much , and the fantasy on top of that..pfiew. it's pretty confusing . It would take two lifetimes to catch up on all the lore .

I am a proud owner of ~20,000 points of Imperium composed of: 1 Warlord 1 Warhound 3600 pts Astra Militarum (2.6k DKoK, 1k Scions) 9400 pts of Astartes (All Ultramarines): Almost every epic hero including legends, ~3600 pts of old infantry, 3k of Dreadnoughts) 1 Knight Castellan 1 Knight Errant and a few extraneous models, some with rules, some without (Bray'Arth Ashmantle, 8:30 I see you, Gallatus Dreadnought of Custodians, a few HH models) and I bask in it's awe... and find that the flipping greatest Heretic, the face of Chaos, MWG Dave has more than 7x my amount of Imperium in Space Marines alone! I must amass MORE! You will not beat me Dave! Mark my WORDS!!!

I havent got into 40k yet but I have what Im told is avout 80k points of skaven, 20k points of sylvaneth, and 15k points of beastmen. I wouldn't know because I dont know how to play...

I believe 200 pts of Clan Rats is roughly 40 models, characters are on the cheaper side are just under or around 100 points each so 80,000 points of skaven is around 4,000-12,000 models depending on how heavy you lean into Hellpit Abominations, Rat Ogres and Artillery... Are you sure you have that many Skaven? I mean... That's a LOT of Skaven, it should be (despite being half as many points as Dave's army) more models in total

An individual Chaos Space Marine is usually about (been a while since I checked so I should be close but not the same number) 18 points whereas a clan rat is 4 points. I believe Havoc Marines (the heavy weapons users) are around 44 points apiece. Regardless, 3/4 the model count is INSANE, you definitely have probably one of the largest skaven armies, and easily outnumber me xD

@@daringdarius5686 well thats with the sylvaneth and beastmen as well. The skaven alone are maybe 50% of whays shown in the thumbnail. I have lots of giant tree people that look like ents. Lots of giant beastmen with four arms and some throwing boulders. I have a giant skaven that looks like a cross between Diablo and a rat who I think is their leader. I also have a girl riding a horned beetle who im told is the leader of the sylvaneth.
