Over compensating huh" lol. The diawia df100a is a large reel too. 33lbs drag. Can hold nearly 800 yards of 40lb braid. With a 35$ price tag. All aluminum.

When you target goliath groupers, GT, big blue fin tuna, and sharks there is no such thing as over compensating.

I have a df100a and it's actually mostly made from cast Zinc alloy (the spool is Aluminum though). It is a great reel for the money, I have mine spooled up with 600 yards of 65lb and I use it for shark fishing, it's been a champ.

I use the spinfisher Vl 8500LL for shark fishing in the surf. It's enough for most of the sharks seen in the surf. I mostly catch 75 to 150 lb black tips and spinners.

I've just bought the Spinfisher VI 10500 for surf casting in New Zealand, so for me it's perfect for what i'm using it for.

What fish will you be using it for there?

Mainly Snapper, Trevelly, Kingfish, Kahawai, Gurnard. Because the beach is so flat where I am and I have to walk out so far, having lots of line is great for me. Iv'e caught a king fish before surfcasting, always catch stingrays an small sharks but I don't eat them. The reel size is definately over kill, but I don't care when im surfcasting as I wanted line distance and durability of the reel + water sealed while casting in to surf. If I go for a drive for 30mins you have a totally different beach, so the reel will be all good.

I have Penn battle III reels including a 10,000 series which I have on a 15' sure rod yes its a heavy setup but when I go to OBX and Florida surf fishing let me tell you I'm really glad I have setups like these because when you hook into a big-ass and get it into shore it's totally worth it being a heavy setup.

The Finnor Offshore 9500 has a drag rating of 66lbs (but produces more) and can hold 600yds of 20lb mono

Finnor Offshore 9500 not only is truly the biggest spinning reel available in USA but also has the LOUDEST CLICKER! So for those who target 5-7ft sharks from the beach just by casting in a loud wave braking scenario, it is one of the best reels for the beach in that class with supper long runs. Downside is the drag MUST be upgraded to a HT or carbon. Many sellers out there sells that, and after doing such upgrade on mine, I got the killer spinning reel for sharks from the beach. For regular surf fishing i absolutely do not recommend it since is very heavy to hold it all day long.

For general surfcasting this would be way too big. The spinfisher is great though for surfcasting but I would go with the 5500 or 6500 sizes

im about to buy the battle III 10000. here in Bolivar Peninsula we usually run our big rod lines out with a kayak because the big mommas arent really close to the shore like they are in FL.it would suck to have to cast this monster repeatedly from the shore lol but hey if the fish are there then you do what it takes

Useless since the Penn has no stainless steel don't know if at least brass gear, better is the Fin Nor Offshore 10500 with its both gear machined pieces of stainless steel, practicaly from the handle to the axle inclusive is all stainless stell, even if the reel would be a tad smaller but it weights 40 ounces for it has huge and strong stainless steel parts in it, whereas l don't think that the Penn would have a bigger spool, useless to write that the Fin Nor has a far greater drag, 60lbs vs your big boy with only 40lbs. Meanwhile the price being about a half of Penn's.

Talon SnowVlogs of course it can but Penn reals are not the greatest reels I'm a daiwa guy and I have used penn reels and their not smooth or a pleasure to fish. I think the penn pursuit is a great real for the money but all of the other reels are just bad in my opinion, penns are just old trucks that are durable but not good. You can tell me all about how penn rees are good but they suck.
