WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE CHEESE - Idiazabal - Basque Region

Today my 7 year old daughter tries Idiazabal from the Basque Region. One prize winner sold in 2014 for €13,050 for 1/2 a cheese. That's USD $14,639 for 1.3lbs making it a most expensive food!
This wonderful cheese is made from the unpasteurised milk of Latxa sheep exclusively in the Basque Region. It has a protected designation of origin. Our's was a gift from our lovely student, Naroa. Huge thanks to Naroa and her family.

I was a goat milk Colby I made July 2019. It’s almost like an aged cheddar now.

I know, right! My mum was born prematurely back in the 40’s and was practically raised on goat’s milk. I’m super sensitive to captoic acid, apparently.

Thats by far not the most expensive cheese of the world. The most expensive as far as I know is a donkey cheese from a near extinct donkey race in serbia or something there which costs 1000€/kg. Yes 1€ per gram This cheese is 31€/kg

Some Idiazabal sold for €13,000 / 1.5kg (half a wheel) so nearly 10x that.

@@RufusEatsCheese I googled for the price and it was fairly chaep to buy. Maybe I have looked it up wrongly. But. Then you must have paid for your cheese some thousand pounds. Really?

Thanks for your comments. Have you watched the video? I do explain that the cheese was a gift and, although my actual truckle may not have cost that much, the sender and her family are from the region. She sent the cheese specifically because we had discussed this amazing cheese and it was the perfect gift. Sorry you didn't like the video - we're all trying to make the best content we can.
