Considering the durability of the Lenovo Y700 that I have atm thats going 6yr old this December. I'd definitely get a Lenovo once again like this one. I can't believe how technology has progressed to offer us mobile laptops that could even match best in class desktop CPUs of previous generation or 2 with up to 16 cores nowadays. Wow, just wow. Now that I have work vs when I was still in college from when we bought my Y700, even if the estimated cost of this was USD 4,000+, I'd definitely get this now that I can afford this myself. Mostly just because of the proven durability of the Lenovo I have atm. Just gonna wait a little bit when ECC memory would be supported as well as being able to charge this kind of laptop thru USB C!. And I'd finally replace my old laptop even if it is still not yet dead by then. For now, I could wait some more.

I got last years AMD version with RTX 306O a few months ago as it was on sale and in stock and I’m still good and able to play any game I wanted with plenty of frames. Yes, I would have at least liked to have a 3070 but none were in stock so I settled for the 3060 and I’m getting great gaming and great 3D rendering for work. So I’m not surprised by how good the new version will be.

Tech Chap, if you can please inquire further about the mini-LED screen option. A mini-LED screen option is clearly listed as one of three screen options in the "Tech Specs" section on all regional European Lenovo Legion 7i landing pages, including the British one along with the regular 165Hz and 240Hz screen options. Currently, as it stands, only the regular 165Hz screen is available for purchase but clearly it's not the only one that will be available for long as the 240Hz is also coming soon. So it would be nice if you could also get a definitive confirmation regarding the mini-LED screen option for those of us interested in it so that we can know whether it makes sense to wait for it or not...

I know Lenovo uses "Gaming" to draw the eyes of a lot of buyers, but this laptop seems to be an "all around champion". It's a desktop replacement, gaming superpower, workstation class laptop. The processor is total overkill for gaming, however it would probably do really well with 3D apps, video editing, photo editing, programming, and whatever else you throw at it. Perhaps the biggest problems here are power draw, heat production, and x86 instructions.

What I like most about this laptop is the built qualities are pretty much the best in the market and the insane amount of IO (so far I haven't seen any gaming laptop with such robust IO,). The performance seems to be top tier too and the pricing isn't that expensive even on the top spec one comparing to its competitions. Although I kinda wish that there is a bigger screen version so that the thermal can be a bit better, a non squashed numpad and maybe an Oled screen, then the Laptop will be golden.

Like why should I watch the review of a product that doesn’t exist on the market? And this thing is supposed to be available in June. It’s still not available after 2 months. The 10hr battery life might apply to those that use the 12700H which has the iGPU to keep the power consumption low when on battery. This 12900HK version uses the DGPU for everything related to graphics, so there's no way it can have a decent battery life.

About the comment regarding battery size at 1:14: 99.9Wh isn't the max. A lot of airlines allow up to 160Wh. Difference being that for 160Wh, you have to notify them, but you should always get approval when your airline offers this support option. Reason why laptops cap at the 100Wh battery capacity, is because it's easier to sell. 100Wh doesn't require approval for anything, so most consumers are more comfortable with that.

Perfect review ! Ordered mine yesterday, with the i9 12900hx and 3080ti sadly without the Mini-Led that is still not available here in France but your review helped me alot to take the leap with Lenovo... I had ordered previously two laptops : - The Zephyrus Duo 16 with mini-Led and for me it had 2 annoying flaws : some keys (on the left) felt squeaky and fragile and the mini-Led didn't have enough "zones" so in web browsing, text & coding I had a lot of blooming with dark mode/pages... quite a perfect laptop with incredible sound quality ...if only those problems of keyboard and mini-led won't make it to production models... - The Alienware X17 R2, that was also quite the perfect machine, I was a huge Alienware laptop client before... the premium support is really great, the machine was light and efficient but it suffered low QC at factory and even with 2 swaps of unit I had the same problem of plastic bezels around the screen that was only glued/attached poorly... So I was looking after a mix of the two previous competitors quoted here and it seems like Lenovo packed both of them in the Legion 7i... :) 2 weeks of wait and I'll see. I have some questions for you if you don't mind : - How is the sound quality ? The speakers seem to pack some nice power in here, as they are located under the laptop don't they feel too muffled ? - Does the battery last long enough with this i9+3080ti combo (with some minors tweaks) ? - How is Lenovo support compared to Dell Premium ? I've ordered on-site support as it was discounted with my order Many thanks :)
@cameronbosch1213
@cameronbosch1213 2 жыл бұрын
Sound quality is above average, but not like the Asus ROG laptops with quad speakers or even the Razer Blade 17 2022, which I believe to have the best Windows laptop speaker system (just behind Apple's newest Macbook Pros). Battery life probably won't be near the AMD version, which I could see being close to 8 hours with the screen at 200 - 250 nits, RGB off, screen at 60 hz, the iGPU enabled (it was disabled on the 2021 model and the 2022 models with AMD Ryzen CPUs out of the box), and the laptop in quiet mode (rather than performance or balanced mode). I got 5 - 6 with all of these except I managed to max out the brightness during a KZbin and light load test. If the battery life is very important to you, get the AMD Advantage model. Same goes with Linux, except be ready to replace the MediaTek card in my unit with an Intel AX210.

@@cameronbosch1213 thanks for your prompt and complete reply. Appreciated. Indeed I'm amazed by the sound quality on my Zephyrus Duo 16. I'm just looking for something close to what I had with my Alienware x17 r2. But on my Asus the keyboard was really under others brands as far as I can tell. I'll be using my laptop mainly for web development, project management and gaming while travelling between home & office. I was a lil bit deceived by the battery lasting time on my Zephyrus althought it was an Amd Ryzen... I won't expect much on the Lenovo. I'll tweak the i9 12900hx and gpu with undervolting if possible. I'll be working on Linux but I choosed the Killer Wireless option... Seems like it's something based on an Intel chip

Was wondering why all of you YT tech guys don't clean the dust off the devices, before shooting the videos. I mean, you hold a top tech gear in your hands, shooting it with HQ pro video equipment, and there is dust all over the devices that you're presenting. Especially visible in closeups. Isn't that, kinda, odd? BTW, loving your videos, and big fan of Lenovo.

These were supposed to arrive in June, with their AMD counterparts alongside albeit nearly a month earlier, and that was already later than what Lenovo were talking about back at CES... Thank god these are finally being officially released, both the 16IAX7 and 16ARHA7. Both of these were supposed to have the miniLED option as well, and yet PSREF shows all of the models coming with the yesteryear's 165Hz 16:10 500nits IPS that & shares with 5Pro lines... My question is where are the miniLED ones? When are they coming? How much are they going to cost over their base IPS variants? Btw. You mentioned that this screen supports G-Sync, that would suggest you could make use of the 165Hz screen regardless of the cards ability to produce 165 fps in games... Too bad these might end up reaching stores late autumn/winter as the gen6 did last year... about the time all the companies will inevitably either release new component variants (say Apple M2 16"-ers) or begin to promise their next best mobile things to be released at CES 2023...

@frieren848
@frieren848 2 жыл бұрын
If you've closely followed the laptop releases this year like I did you'd know MiniLED screens have been shipping with glaring coil whine issues, very prominent in the Asus Duo 16 release. That's probably why ASUS released the 3070Ti model WITHOUT MiniLED here in Canada (and the 3080Ti with one is heavily discounted after a week), I wouldn't be surprised if Lenovo ran into the same issues.
@marcin_karwinski
@marcin_karwinski 2 жыл бұрын
@@frieren848 True, and I have... regardless, if one manufacturer runs into issues in one model it does not mean the same issue applies to the rest of the stack from the single manufacturer, let alone different ones... Duo came earlier and had some engineering aspects different from the rest of the notebooks o the market, primarily Asus tried to marry 2-screen setup with quite power hungry (for a laptop) components, many things oculd have gone bad, maybe even a rushed release process? I didn't have any coil whine issues with MSI Creator 17 with aslower refresh rate miniLED screen I had at work for a period... So, even if Lenovo did run into the same teething issues, it's been half a year for R&D/engineering teams to fix it already ;) I am just afraid they are still going to release this unique solution/option for only certain markets (they did such a thing on multiple occassions across several of their laptop lines, allowing some specific configs to only exist for EAA region and maybe USA), heck they might even try to release them only by late autumn, just to get a refreshed variant for the winter holidays shopping spree seasons... a "new" thing in the shops just in time for money spending craze, before the inevitable new models get "released/heralded" at next CES. Plus they might be afraid of pushing a very highly priced variant in this time... if they did it when GPU prices were still climbing high, they might have gotten more money return from the release, but once the desktop pricing dropped the pricing of the laptops could make them nearly unobtainable/unsellable... why do i think so? Let's take a look at prev gens... typically 7 was priced nearly a 3rd (for the "base" variants) or a half (for the higher variants) of the 5 Pro pricing above the "lesser" counterpart... since 5/5i Pro in many regions gets sold in the higher 3070ti variant for approximately $2500 (incl.taxes), the 7 with similar components could have been priced at retail at more than $3500... now since eg. MSI has raised their pricing of Raiders between H- and HX-series (that have both HX and screen advancements) by nearly 50%, it could suggest that Lenovo might have planned to do the same, thus pricing for the HX-equipped miniLED-using variant could very well be reaching GT77 levels of well over $4000-$5000, and that would put the 7 at a disadvantage... Maybe not in terms of sheer competition, even though that high pricing entails several unique designs, but rather in terms of asking price in this economy... and thus possible customer base.

Build quality looks premium compared to the plastic Scar 17 SE which has the similar HX processor but was quoted with much higher price. But do you think this actually runs hotter than the Asus Scar 17 SE? I would love to see a 12900HX shootout between the different laptops if you can manage that! 😊

If truely they are going to optimise the battery duration then I believe the most satisying feature is the fact that it can rock a 3080TI , this mean it can perform a lot more outside gaming, this is greatt new for a gamer/content creaator like me and I don't mind using it as my coding laptop neither. Moreover,, I do leave in the UK, I hope to be the lucky winner.
