from the "stalaggh" video comments: "The story behind that is terrifying. He was actually a Dutch patient. An extreme metal band called "Stalaggh" (later known as "Gulaggh") had a member who worked as a nurse in a psychiatric hospital in the Netherlands and was looking after him, and this became the artwork for one of the band's albums after the man killed himself. Depending on the story they either kidnapped or conned the hospital into giving them access to some of the more insane patients, and they took them away to a remote location to record "the primal screams of the insane". All of their albums, 6 in total were made using the screams of mentally ill patients layered over guitar and noise. One their most controversial album "Projekt Misanthropia" a schizophrenic man who murdered his mother was taken to a farmhouse with the other patients, and at one point in the album you can hear a scuffle break out as the screams take on a primal, almost demonic edge. That is where the schizophrenic man had tackled and had begun strangling one of the band members so severely that he was almost killed. They also gained access to the children's wing and recorded there, which the band believes is their best work because "children don't hold back their screaming". The session was ended when one of the children broke off their nails after collapsing onto the ground and trying to claw through the concrete while screaming. All of the patients used gave their full permission, because according to the band (whose members are all anonymous) "they hate humanity as much as we do." Despite all this, many of the patients describe it as the best therapy they've had in years. - a story behind an image drawn by someone related to the band before commiting suicide.."

You should really check out the history of Mayhem. Lead singer Dead killed himself, leaving a note 'Sorry for the blood...'. Euronymous, gitarist of the band, found him and instead of calling the police, he went to a shop to buy a camera and take pictures of the body. They used these pictures as the cover for their bootleg CD. Few years later, Euronymous got killed in a arguement with Varg Vikernes, who is known as the man behind Burzum.

Shinings frontman Niklas Kvarforth is probably one of the most insane vocalist in whole genre. He often cuts himself on stage, throws razorblades for a public, but also hes vocals are amazing

If you'll read details about those bands, you will be terrified. Belphegor and Behemoth are only scary in stage presence, but the rest of the bands are actually creepy stuff. Stalaggh is a Industrial Noise Black Metal band from Netherlands. This album called "Pure Misantropia" was recorded thanks to one of the band members, sneak up a bunch of mentally ill people from psychiatric hospital (because he was a medicine student and he was allowed to go to this hospital). What you've actually heard was screams of lunatics, mentally insane and unstable people. Emperor - Symphonic Black Metal band. Their first Drummer nicknamed Faust, killed an drunk gay guy because he pissed him off by seducing him. Marduk - Swedish Black Metal band. Their lyrics often telling stories about horrors of WW2 and sometimes glorifying militarism. Some dumb people are even associating them to NSBM subgenra (National Socialist Black Metal). Shining - Depressive Suicidial Black Metal band from Sweden. Niklas Kvarforth (vocalist and frontman of the group) is one of those people that you would feel really uncomfortable sitting next to him. He often cuts himself on stage during shows. Dissection - Melodic Black Metal band from Sweden. Frontman of the group - Jon Nödveidt was put in jail because he was involved in murder. He also claimed to be a Satanist and on August 16 2006 he was found dead in his home, laying in a circle of candles. He committed suicide. Watain - Swedish Black Metal band. They calling themselves as actual Satanists. They dedicate their music and their shows to Satan himself. Gorgoroth - Norwegian Black Metal band. They put a lot of effort in their stage presence. Sheep heads on spikes, "crucified" naked women's covered in pig's blood and entanglements. What you saw was recreation of their concert in Krakow from 2006. When local authorities discovered what was happening on the show, they called police and canceled the concert. Later they caused the group for "Insulting of Religious Feelings" (yes that's a thing in Poland and it still functions till this day) Mayhem - Just read about the band on wikipedia or watch (or read) Lords of Chaos.

If you REALLY want to know about Mayhem, watch documentaries like "Until the Light takes us", "Pure Fucking Mayhem" "Satan rides the Media" "Once upon a time in Norway" and "Helvete" . And you read books like "Mayhem: The Dead Archives". Stop spreading lies.

What I find fascinating about Kvarforth/Shining is how Niklas is so crazy on stage and has a very distinct maniacal shriek but on Redifining Darkness you also find out the guy has an incredible, soothing clean voice.

The "singer" of Shining Kvarforth cuts himself during concerts and picks fight with members of other bands. He even handed allegedly razorblads to audience members. And by the way, bands like Gorgoroth or Watain don't do bits for the show. Watain for example cover themselves with rotten Pig blood... Black Metal is wild...

The vocalist for Gorgoroth once tied a man to a chair and tortured him because Gaahl claimed the man attacked him at a party. The vocalist of Dissection killed himself as part of a Satanic Ritual because he believed he had reached the peak of his life(or something like that). Members of Emperor were in prison for Church burnings, and the drummer was sent to jail for murdering a homosexual after luring him into the woods. And of course there's Mayhem who's vocalist Dead commited suicide by shooting himself in the head, which was later used as an album cover. Euronymous gifted some of his closest friends pieces of Dead's skull. Morgan of Marduk is one of the people who owns a piece of Dead's skull. And then of course Varg killed Euronymous and was sent to prison.

Saw Gorgoth live at Hellfest. They "sacrificed" a 100% naked man and woman on stage, then tied them to crucifixes, where they stayed for the rest of the 45 minute set. Bags over their heads. It was certainly different.

STALAGGH comes from the German word "Stalag" which was a concentration camp in Germany in World War II; the g and the h following after Stalag mean "global holocaust." The band consists of many top musicians from the Dutch and Belgian Black Metal / Industrial scene. Rumours suggest that the band used a murder convict - that killed his own mother at the age of 16 and a mental patient who killed himself a few months after the recording of their 2003 EP, for vocals. According to interviews they used these vocalists because they wanted "the pain and hatred in the vocals to be real and not acted". They call their 'music': 'Misanthropik Nihilistik Audio-Terrror'. All members of Stalaggh are anonymous. In 2007 when they completed their trilogy ('Projekt Nihil', 'Projekt Terrror' and 'Projekt Misanthropia') STALAGGH changed their name to GULAGGH. A Stalag is Nazi POW concentration camp, a Gulag is a Soviet work camp. The extra G and H stand for Global Holocaust. Otherwise, who did this list? That's just basic black metal, mostly. My everyday music.

To comment on the mayhem-thing: There actually are video recordings of their live performances, where you can see "Dead" (Per), one of their singers, who later killed himself by a headshot with a shotgun, actually cuting himself with a knife onstage and spraying the audience with his blood. He was a really sick and really sad boy. He actually was 22 when he died. Another bandmember took photos of his dead body, originally planing to use the pictures as an album cover.

Alex "I've never heard of that band" Hefner All of these bands are black metal. Most of them are influential to some degree in the genre. As others have said you should look into the history of Mayhem, there's a book (and a movie based on it) called "Lords of Chaos" you could check out to get the gist of it. Though, keep in mind that the events of the book are based on true accounts, so it's not necessarily 100% accurate. Black metal is my favorite genre, so I'd like you to give it more of a try. Of the bands here, I think you'd like Dissection and Emperor, both are more melodic than is typical of black metal, both are incredibly influential, both are classics of metal that you should know anyway. Their work is best experienced as full albums: Dissection's "Storm of the Light's Bane" and "The Somberlain," Emperor's "In the Nightside Eclipse," and "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk." But that's a lot to ask, so here's some select songs: Dissection: Where Dead Angels Lie, Storm of the Light's Bane, The Somberlain, Mistress of the Bleeding Sorrow Emperor: I am the Black Wizards, With Strength I Burn, Thus Spake the Nightspirit, Into the Infinity of Thoughts

Just stay quiet if you don't know what you're talking about. And don't ever recoment either the book or the movie "Lords of Chaos" since they're garbage and nothing but lies, rumors and slandering.

However that only applies to Belphegor and later Behemoth. Behemoth's first two albums and early demos are very clearly pure black metal. Dissection is an interesting one as they go back and forth from melodic death metal and melodic black metal. Both The Somberlain and Storm of the Light's Bane hedge the line, but closer to black metal. Storm of the Light's Bane is widely regarded as classic Swedish black metal. Reinkaos is the only one that sounds closer to death metal than black metal. As far as Lords of Chaos goes. I get it, Dead didn't kill himself, Varg didn't kill Euronymous, and no churches were harmed. Yep all lies. The movie even goes as far as saying it's "Based on truth and lies." You're free to disagree, but try making less of an ass of yourself next time.

If you don't know, Mayhem's original singer shot himself in the face with a shotgun. The band is the one who discovered his corpse. Instead of calling for help, they took a polaroid of the scene with their singers brains all over the wall and used it as their next album cover. From wiki: "On 8 April 1991, Dead committed suicide in the house owned by the band. He was found by Euronymous with slit wrists and a shotgun wound to the head. Dead's suicide note started with the sentence "Excuse all the blood" and included a brief explanation "nobody will ever understand this, but as a sort of explanation, I am not human, this is only a dream and soon I will awake".The full text has become public and it ended by saying "I didn't come up with this now but 17 years ago". Attached to the note, Dead left the lyrics of the song Life Eternal. When Euronymous found all this, he went to a nearby store and bought a disposable camera to photograph the corpse, after re-arranging some items.[19] One of these photographs was later used as the cover of a bootleg live album, Dawn of the Black Hearts.[20]"

Preface: I’m a huge Metal fan of a number of styles, with that said, I would classify or consider these bands “evil”. They do put on a show, and a performance, but their subject material is dark, evil, Satanic, demonic, etc. So yea, not surprisingly these were all Black Metal I believe, which do push the envelope when it comes to the dark, Satanic, lyrical content. But there are actually some Deathcore bands I’d consider as evil, or more evil sounding. Nitheful being just one. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤘🏻

With their first album "The Somberlain" alone, it would devastate any discography of the rest of the bands. Jon Nödtveidt was the best frontman the BM scene has ever had before he committed suicide. At some point in the 90s, only one member of Emepror wasn't in jail. The guitarist was convicted of arson (burning churches) and the drummer was convicted of murder. I wouldn't call them evil now but they were pretty "evil" back then. Great band though! Their 2nd and last albums are particularly great.

Yo. Stalaggh... that shit, It's fucking terrifying. Their name is first of all taken from the German word Stalag. Which is supposed to be a name used for prisoner of war camps, it was used in consentration camps. But the band added another G and an H to the name, which stand for Global Holocaust. Now, the album Pure Misanthropy, (misanthropy for people who don't know is the word to describe people who have genral hatred, distrust and dislike of mankind), the album used the recordings from actual patients from a mental institution where one of the band members worked. They used some patients that had uncontrollable homocidal urges. They said and I quote: "The reasoning for recording the mental patients is because the band really wanted the hatred and painful emotions to be REAL and truly felt. Also we wanted to recreate the situation of the Stalag concentration camps in sound." I have tried to listen to this album a few times, but man, I can't do it. It's not fun, and it's not supposed to be fun either, you just feel the pain and hear the anger there, it's truly remarkable and fucking insane!

Well, I know almost all of those bands. Seen a lot of them live as well on festivals. But honestly, not my stuff at all. Marduk and Mayhem - real classic , you cannot deny they are impressive. All in all, when such band plays, I go take a look, but very possible I walk away and go get some food or drink! ;)

Hey man in regards to your opening the other day about just not being in the state to do anything I just want to say thank you for bringing that out to light. I have a song I think you need to check out for the next time you hit that point or just as a song to react to now and have in your pocket to remember when it comes around again. Look into the song "Ugly" by The Exies as this song kept me going through High school after contemplating ending it numerous times back then. Another good track is "Different than You." Listen to abruptum de profundis mors vas cousumet. One of the guys from marduk is in that band. The band Abruptum released their famous demo compilation back in the 90s called Evil genius and the first 666 copies of the album contained a razor blade with a note that suggested that you should take your own life. Evil genius til' this very day is one of my all time favorite albums of all time.

Oh, please. The Marduk lead singer just poured grape juice over himself. That's all. There is very little terrifying about any of these bands. After a show, they all wash off the make-up like any other actor in a movie, go home, buy groceries, etc.

I dont know if you have seen it, but there is a rock festival coming to Daytona Beach and i have the banner with all the bands on it, but if you're interested, Im literally less than a mile from it so if you need to cheat parking fees, i got you lol. You can easily look up the festival. Its in May! I know youve grown on rock and figured you'd love to see it! It has bands like Shinedown, Seether, Halestorm, Korn, Saint Asonia, etc etc. Best of luck to you!
