Very well done, Brad. Short, sweet, professionally produced look at and insight into the Komodo.

Even though I don't do any camera things, this kind of video has been my jam on KZbin recently. Love that you are posting more. Getting algorithm love is partially just luck, but since you are right up there with all the big channels (or better) quality-wise, I'd prioritize getting gear reviews out closer to release. This "first look" would have naturally gotten a lot more traction if posted a month ago. If that's not practical given that KZbin is not your bread and butter, maybe position it as a "review" or "tips" video so it has more play over the life of the product. Anyway, hope you and the family are well, and wish you the best of luck!

Really appreciate the kind words and yes... hoping to post more as we get into 2020. Funny thing is we mostly had this video finished almost 2 months ago and just never got around to uploading. Definitely would've been more timely then. But I guess that's the KZbin speed game. :) Aloha!

Brad - great video. I'd love to see one where you explore getting your Komodo set up and running with your Weebill S.

Thanks Alex. Sorry, end of 2020 was super crazy and Jan 2021 isn't letting up on the schedule. I'll definitely need to do a breakdown of the pros an cons of the Weebil S and just picked up a the Crane 3S, so I can do a little comparison if that would help? Mahalo!

Hi Brad, can you comment on your rig and lenses you used? Is that a SmallRig top handle on a nato rail? Which monitor?
@BradWatanabe4 жыл бұрын
Aloha Conrad. Thanks for the question. I've had this wooden camera (rubber grip) top handle + 100mm nato rail since my first Red Scarlet MX almost 8 years ago. But when handheld, I use the Red Komodo Outrigger handle and attach the nail rail to that. I have no other camera cage (yet), but have been looking at th 8inn, SmallRig and Tilta to see which one will work well with the Outrigger handle. Lenses were mostly Leica R 35/1.4, 50/1.4 and 80/1.4 with a few shots using the Laowa 9mm RF Cine which I was able to mount on a Zhiyun Weebil S gimbal. Monitoring off of a SmallHD 702 Bright which I'm hoping to eventually upgrade to a SmallHD Indie 7 with control cable. Will make for a much quicker operating experience. I've tried a 502, but struggled to nail focus every time, so I prefer 7" for my style of shooting. Hope that helps.

very good video. But it’s for sure not the world’s smallest cinema camera haha
@BradWatanabe4 жыл бұрын
Thank Jeff! Honestly, I can't think of a cinema camera smaller than Komodo. It's smaller than BlackMagic Pocket, Canon, Sony or Panasonic cinema options... Definitely not smaller than a mirrorless hybrid/stills camera, but smaller than other cinema options as far as I can recall?

It's such a tiny beast of a camera. I find myself reaching for it more than Dragon purely for it's size and form factor...
@robertm39514 жыл бұрын
Smallest? I can fit like 2 Z Cam E2Cs and 4 original Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras inside of that thing.
@BradWatanabe4 жыл бұрын
Touche', those are definitely smaller... honestly, I had forgotten about the Z Cam, but to be fair, it's only about .5" smaller in every direction (3.59"x3.3"x3.5" vs 4"x4"x4"), and can't be used without an external monitor making somewhat of an incomplete comparison. Komodo has an on board monitor (that I've used indoors and outdoors) as well as built in wifi for wireless monitoring. The original Pocket Cinema was definitely smaller, but I don't know anyone personally who enjoyed shooting a full project on it. Uncompressed DNGs to SD cards was a nightmare and ProRes was pretty limited due to battery and media capacity. Definitely appreciate the feedback, and I would love to actually do a comparison one day with a comparable Z Cam option. Mahalo!

@@BradWatanabe Z CAM has an onboard monitor but it is very tiny. It does work with a smartphone as a monitor but I think it still needs an iPhone for full functionality.

World's Smallest Cinema Camera? No. It is the most expensive little camera in the world. ;) World's Smallest Cinema Camera is: BMMCC, BMPCC ;)
@BradWatanabe4 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy. I've been corrected on this a couple times, but yes the original BMPCC is smaller than Komodo, I honesty forgot about that camera altogether. Digging BMPCC camera tests you've got on your channel and was wondering how you're liking the Sirui anamorphic? They've said they're in development of an RF version for Komodo, so I'm interested to see what real world users think of them. Mahalo
