I remember I was on holiday in Malia in Crete once, and I hired a mountain bike to explore. Going East from the roman ruins I went by the back roads and up a steep hill, where the road doubled back on itself many times. When I got to the top I sat for a rest, and noticed a huge plant, with a thick round stem and a bulbous phallic shaped sticky end. I guess this was a Dracunculus vulgaris, but to me it looked like a giant 4-foot stinkhorn. Very strange. I just remember it was tall like a foxglove, and smelled like dead flies.
