This crowd looks tiny in comparison to even some smaller local shows. I really wish WSM would give the guys the atmosphere they deserve at such a high level of proffesional sport, the build up to this event was sooo quiet and under advertised. I understand that its a TV show but strongman has grown now and i think people should really be given a chance to watch it live , we dont care if there are TV segments etc being filmed throughout , its just a chance for people to watch their favourite athletes performing live and to be able to support the sport in the process by paying for it. WELL DONE MITCHELL HOOPER, an event like this deserves to be seen LIVE by the masses and you deserve to be SEEN LIVE by the masses.

It is not uncommon for strongmen to tear their hands in the first event. That's definitely not an excuse. Hooper was brutally strong, but he lost because Tom was stronger. Even without this "injury" he would finish second. So yeah he came second with two hands. Props to that by the way.

It’s the new Brian/big Z rivalry. Tom and Mitch will go back-and-forth each year and something stupid will happen that is out of their control to cost them a point or two. Like when Brian’s bag fell from the barrel, and cost him a WSM title. Mitch’s skin ripping apart. It won’t be the last time something like this happens, and next year, something will probably happen to Tom to cost him a point or two.

You are incredible as always! Looking forward to your forthcoming skin masterclass. From what I remember, most of the guys are always filing down their calluses so there is less mass to rip off. Looks like you got it as bad as it could be. Also, if you look at the rock climbing community, they also obsess over skin quality as they are always wearing it down on their finger tips, they have started to use a combination of chalk and a fan to get the best dryness for their skin. I think the idea is that as our skin gets sweaty and moist, it is most likely to wear/tear.

Mr. Hooper, I have to hand it to you. You are a true gentleman and a class act all the way. I have because a huge fan of yours because of your humility and kindness. Your hand injury was unfortunate but you handled it as well as anyone possibly could. I know you will correct the issues for next year. God Bless.

I suppose the consolation for Mitch (beyond 2nd place which is a huge accomplishment) is that if he won the medley he would have ended up at 52.5 points and Tom at 52. He possibly left points behind on axle, and deadlift too (one more rep gets 2 points). Meanwhile, Tom performed perfectly (and above expectation on the Conan's wheel). Should still be a confidence boost for Mitch knowing that he has Tom's number when everything goes right. Hopefully these guys don't fall into the Brian Shaw mentality of only focusing on WSM and they continue to compete often. Especially since I don't even regard WSM as the top competition anymore.

Even just continuing with that injury is impressive itself, but holding onto 2nd was heroic. You took this one and the way it happened like a champ.

Mitch, I hope you read this, I'm the biggest stoltman fan on earth and I have been of the opinion that you are an arrogant piece of work. I take that back, massive respect for how sober and humble you handled yourself throughout the comp. Different from the "I should easily win" Mitchell that I've seen on social media. Big respect.

I was truly heartbroken for you Mitch, not a whole heap you can do about what happened, it is what it is. I really enjoyed the leadup to this years WSM comp, No stone unturned series. It was really great. I hope you can keep cranking out the KZbin videos and I hope you can quickly recover and come back even better for the rest of your comps. You are a gentleman and a scholar and one of the greatest athletes I have ever seen.

Watching you fight through the pain and gear up for the stones with the forearm wraps and glue just impressed the hell out of me reminded me of a gladiator preparing to bleed for the crowd. There appears to been a marked improvement in sportsmanship and professionalism since the days of Kazmaier and Sigmarsson. Perhaps I feel that way because I’m watching from the perspective of a Canadian, and they’re the friendliest people on the planet.
