World Snooker 1990 1st Round Willie Thorne v Tony Drago 2nd session (Best of 19)

1st round encounter between Thorne and Drago from the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield starts with Willie leading 6-3. Presented by David Vine. This footage was taken from an old VHS recorded on LP which makes it harder to convert. It's as good as I could get it and is perfectly watchable. The larger the screen it is viewed on the worse it will appear so I wouldn't recommend watching on a HD tv. On youtube however on the smaller screen it is better than average.

The amount of times Drago can be heard saying "Oh Jesus" when he's missed an easy one. He had the tools to be a decent snooker player but his temperament (and lack of safety play) often got the better of him.

Drago really was a player who underachieved. Lost 9-8 to Steve Davis in the QF of the 1986 UK missing a yellow with the rest when clearing up to win the match at 8-8. Lost the frame and match on the black. It was his first season as a pro and could possibly have won that tournament and had a totally different career!

Willie Thorne a great man sadly taken down by gambling and all the stress and carnage it causes ,I've managed to bin it since it was closed down nearly two years with pandemic ,but around 25 years ago in my job as an hgv driver id call quite often on my break at toddington services ,were willie like to have a bet he was nearly always in Ladbrokes there ,doing masses of money everytime couldn't miss the wedge being handed over ,before bank cards could do it and obviously no cheques and he very rarely won ,god knows what happened when him and another super gambler the hurricane were in town together ,bookies must of been coming in there pants thinking of the coin they'd be getting off them ,very sad such simple thievery which racing is was a big part in both dying young .

Don't think so .. with all Willie's gambling problems the bookies would have been over him like a hawk. Could have happened earlier in his career for sure.
