Just goes to show how much one man can do with the right weapon and tactics. One man using a weapon that can barely achieve 60 rounds a minute and slowly and methodically firing manages to pin down two entire USMC platoons using a weapon created long before those Marines were born. they call in fire Support to try and deal with him. a sniper is a truly powerful weapon in his own right.

That's the problem with Afghanistan, you have hundreds of yard of open terrain between buildings, if those marines crossed the open terrain to engage closer, they would be picked off one by one, if they stay, they're pinned down by accurate fire. That's why Helmand Provence was so deadly, and why an insurgency that knows it's terrain well can win against a superior enemy.
@kross777rlsh9

@Matt W well he said nothing wrong . there are plenty of stories of soldiers both special forces and Non special forces fighting against insurgents who only had bolt action rifles back from ww2 Mosin nagants . (still used by many bad guys and good guys in the middles east) yet had enough combat knowlage to know how to supress and put pressure on the worlds finest . a rifle we used and probably still use is the bolt action M40 a3 or whatever Popularized in the call of duty 4 video game . (mind me bringing up call of duty) Its an old school style bolt action rifle yet its from modern day gets the job done as apposed to the semi auto rifle used by the lone survivor . the mk12 mod 1 . It uses the m16 and m4 carbines 5.56 nato rounds . it may not use the old powerfull rifle rounds from ww2 or the lapua round (Usmc M40 sniper round) But its got power and can reach out quite far because of how the rifle was designed. And you can keep your sight picrure easier lol And supress the enemy easier Just going over somestuff sniper wise. But again what a trained insurgent can do with only a ww2 /ww1 era rifle . Think of what would happens if they reservased these rifles to soldier these days for snipers and special units if you will. With the modern training the soldiers have these days in first world countries ? They could really mess a persons day up . (The people being the inurgents im mean) Comment edit : In fact i was just ledt this vid after i posted this comment to study if the lei einfield to be used in modern day and effectiveness . KROSS777RLSH, you said "sight picture" as soon as i read that, I knew you have been behind a rifle. Quite possibly as what we Marines call a PIG (professionally instructed gunman) Good comment, and a Lee Enfield, iron sights, 150 to 400m, fired by a trained and seasoned rifleman will effectively put bodies out of the fight. The goes for any weapon really. We train until our bodies are weapons and our weapons are a part of our body. Every professional warrior does the same. Semper Fidelis

@thecosmicguy21

Alot of people are commenting on the loss of civilian life in this, which without a doubt is a issue, the reason why we saw more about the single soldier getting hit rather than the 12 people who got caught in the crossfire, is that because the way we had a connection to the soldier through the video and a way to see the reactions of his friends, we got more of him then the 12 anonymous civilians that we have no idea about and no information or feedback from friends or family. Honestly say your from the media which is a more intruiging up front story, talking about a soldier that you know getting shot, or talking about 12 anonymous civilians that we re killed in crossfire? Honestly it's down to how the media portrays it and the most profitable story \:

Afghan war had way less collaterall damage than previous wars. I don't think you could say that was the issue. If the US used the divide and conquer strategy I bet they would've done a lot better. Tell one tribe they can rule the country if they help us fight the Taliban. Then they can deal with policing and shutting down terrorist cells. Problem is that you have to overlook severe human rights abuses. You basically contract out all the shady stuff that was the norm in previous wars. But it works very well.
@biersticks9331
@biersticks9331 8 жыл бұрын
Which wars are you referring to? WW1 and WW2 did have a huge number of civilian casualties but the US was fighting against another nation's armed forces. US armed forces never technically won the Vietnam and Korean wars although the armed forces did inflict more damages that the enemy. The wars in Afganistan and Iraq are different; the US isn't fighting against another nation's army. The US does inflict more damages than the terrorists, but how can you win if new people keep getting radicalized? Lastly, the Afghan and US government had already tried and is still trying to recruit current and former warlords in their cause. Here is a news snippet from 2010: "Stuck in a pinch on how to deal with the warlords and their militias, the United States began hiring them to provide security. In short, “What used to be called warlord militias are now private security companies,”
