John Brzenk chewed gum too. I think it does have some relaxing benefits. I know it looks ridiculous but there is science with the guys who occasionally wear mouth guards when they armwrestle. Same in powerlifting. It's supposed to help reduce cortisol & allow you to really bite down & exert maximum force.
