The Poles ran a great race. I know Jessica Beard is getting a lot flack in this thread, but she didn't bobble the handoffs on either end. It looked like she didn't have it in the tank coming down the homestretch and when she handed off to the anchor, she got swallowed up in the pack - very difficult to pull out a win from there. The US was lucky to get second.
@JohnHoulgate3 жыл бұрын
@66fredo99 la France I say lucky because I know how difficult it is when you get swallowed up in a pack. It takes more than just running faster than the other runners to get by them in such close quarters. Anything can happen. The only good place to be at that stage of the relay is first where no one is either ahead of you or to your side.
@saintsone78773 жыл бұрын
@66fredo99 la France Funny you criticise Beard for her collapse but don't criticise the first 2 legs for doing similar. Each of them barely beat their chasers home after having substantial leads after first 150m of their legs. lthough Beard tanked in the straight more than the other 2 they also bobbled baton changes giving rivals an advantage. At least Beard gave the baton to Okolo clean in a congested changeover area. Had Beards changeover of the baton been as bad as the first 2 changeovers Okolo would not have been able to get them back to 2nd place. They would have finished 4th/5th.

But kudos to my native Poles for believing and achieving. As to preserving energy for the last 100 meters, the Polish women seem to have mastered the American (USA) method of running 400 m better than the Americans (USA) themselves.
