After the 48.57 from Pryce in London, knowing that Paulino can certainly improve on her 48.76 PB and with both Kaczmarek and Adeleke in sub 49 shape, I'd say it's probably going to take a low 48 to win the 400m. Also, I would be surprised if the 400mH turns out to be a sub 50 in Paris.

The winning time for the 400 flat will be mid-48, as it was in 2021. Paulino vs. Pryce, Adeleke, and Kaczmarek will be epic. The hurdles time will not be 49 seconds. The faster you go, the harder it is to take big chunks of time off of your PB. I predict Syd is likely to run around 50.5, while Bol will run about 50.8.

The most interesting race here is Bol vs. Bol. Bol 2023 is much faster than Bol 2022, and Bol 2024 is between 0.40 and 0.75 seconds faster still. Sydney is likely to improve as well, but her former times are so fast that she may be reaching a point of diminishing returns.

I wish this showed Syd's new world record vs. Bol's recent Diamond League win. What it would have shown is Bol slightly ahead going into the second turn, Syd gaining on Bol from hurdle 7, but not catching her until hurdle 9, and then Syd dusting Bol from hurdle 9 to the finish, to end up 0.65 ahead of her at the finish.

@jkf91673 ай бұрын
@@virgilius7036 maybe. Syd didn't look like she was pushing that hard in her recent race, but neither did Bol. That's how hurdles usually work, though, because if you show strain, you're probably not performing at your best. Saying someone "always improves" is rarely true of athletes; and once you've taken a second off your time, finding another second becomes much harder. I think both Syd and Bol have a few more tenths in them. This race will almost certainly be much closer than their 2022 race. In 2022, Syd had switched to the 14-step pattern and Bol had not. To beat Bol by that amount now, Syd would have to run between 49.2 and 49.75, and that won't happen. My guess is that Syd will run 50.5 and Bol will run 50.8.
