Love your illustrations and maps. Your style has a charm that reminds me of warm childhood feelings. I'm not sure how something new can make me feel nostalgia, but it does. Thank you for that!

This is exactly what we did in the 70s. Big sheet of hex paper and draw the durn thing. Then run the Temple of Elemental Evil module and run your characters from level 1 to 8 for a great campaign start. Yes that's how old i am.

+1 for the "FSG's Making Maps" book recommendation! I've already spent so much time in it. World building is so rewarding and memorable, even if it's just for fun!

Thank you for your videos! They are extremely fun to watch and calming. But more importantly, they are so encouraging. Thanks to you and Map Crow, I started drawing and I discovered that I really like it. Today, I made my first hex map that I plan to use in my current Pathfinder campaign. That final inking gave me so much satisfaction and I am just looking forward to using it. Again, thank you!

Received my Flik Silverpen's Guide to making maps -- totally love it. Just what you need to know to practice & place things on your map without the discouraging "first become an artist, then maybe you can draw a map." That it goes so well with your vid library is another plus. Thanks so much for putting this out here for the layperson who wants to have Fun and Make Maps!

This video, together with some other top-down map videos of you, inspired me to try drawing maps aswell... I made a map for a escape room project, and it turned out so pretty with Tolkien style icons. And btw, this video's map has such a nostalgic platform game feeling, i like it, might try that aswell... :)

That book is amazing. Those little lines underneath the drawings really help one to decipher the more complicated looking drawings into the simple shapes they actually are.

I really enjoy the pixel art medium and have been mulling over how to style the art for my current project. Pixel art seems like a great choice, but I'm not sure it fits the tone I'm going for. Will be very interested to see how this new book works out!~

This is so inspiring! I never thought I'd be able to draw but your repeating, icon style art is amazing! Its attainable for someone like me with no drawing ability and it also somehow looks better than more detailed and difficult drawings. I love this. I think using the right pen is also key here to really make the black pop. I picked up a dip pen and some ink because I though that looked like it could be fun (and also challenging.) Thank you for inspiring me to start a new hobby. Excited to try out drawing a map like yours.

You're a master, a great lord of painting, continue to make these videos, they're wonderful. Unfortunately there's no way I can do those geat maps, I'm terrible with painting, but looking at someone else doing works like that is awesome

I don’t know how to paint either. If you can write the alphabet, I promise you can make a map like this! Look at the trees. They are just circles and triangles with a little line. You can do it!

Hey man, mapster myself. I love this product, it's a great, out of the box way to sell more than just a map, or even a map pack. I truly hope it pays off. Btw, you'd make a killing on roll20 token packs if you're not already riding that money train. Your art is awesome, dude.

I’ve found it difficult with maps to figure out where to stop. For example, I don’t want to draw an entire planet’s worth of map, but I also don’t want the players to feel they are confined to a small island in the middle of an infinite ocean. Any advise on how to visually suggest other far off realms without having to necessarily depict them with perfect scale or detail?

You've really inspired me to start drawing maps and it turns out that was what I needed to get me out of GM-burnout! I am very grateful. Would you ever consider offering digital-only versions of your zines for sale? I know there's a digital version added to physical purchases, and honestly I would love to have them physically... but international shipping prices being what they are, I'm afraid that won't be an option for me for a while :(

Please link the video somewhere where i can learn how you design-develop your map icons (cartoony-symbolic style). To this day i guess a 'Zene' is a magazine (??). Thanks JP, you da bomb.

I'm not hearing it, but I do notice some slight hsss as you're speaking. Maybe try a different mic? It could also be some frequency noise from your power source. Make sure all your electronics are 3-prong grounded with surge protectors. You probably are already doing this. Love your vids!

I love the simplicity of you maps. One set of icons I wish that was simpler is a way to indicate hills or mountains IN a forest. I live in a mountainous region, but many of the slopes are forested, while others are rocky cliffs and rocks like slopes. If you have any ideas on making something simple I'd love to see it in your style. Thanks for all your videos either way.
@JPCoovert
@JPCoovert Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that is tricky. I think it’s a scale thing. We indicate individual trees to show a forest, but mountains are so much bigger and zoomed out. Don’t have an immediate solution but will think on it!
