During the production of the prequels, George Lucas tried to encourage the actors to improve or critique his script's dialogue. Since he admitted he is not very good at writing dialogue. Unfortunately, the actors did not want to questions such a famous director. So even if the final product came out a little awkward, you got to give credit to George Lucas for really trying to make it a masterpiece. But no such credit goes to Ryan, who is a complete idiot.

One of my main complaints about the prequels is the dialogue. It sounds like comic book character captions. Otherwise, it is just minor complaints about plot holes and flow issues, but they were not that bad. It is good to hear that George knew he didn't write good dialogue.

But Lucas was only successful because he had his wife challenge his ideas. He had a 'number two' who wasn't afraid to challenge him and tell him things didn't work (and a number two who was a good editor). But he can't fire his wife. He 'can' fire anyone else. Perhaps his ego got to his head - people were afraid if they challenged him, he would fire them. He probably would have. No one has a shield against being fired except a family member you cannot fire.

Disney have gone in completely the wrong direction with the franchise. They should have been bold and created an entirely new trilogy set back in the days of the Old Republic. A thousand years previously. Completely new characters. If they'd done it right, it would have worked and would have sold. What they did was lazy and conservative, and because it's incredibly hard to make an effective sequel to a story in which the alliance has won and the Republic has been restored, they basically cheapened the original movies. Their approach has been disastrous.

KingKaitain Agreed, if they wanted to have the old cast: Han, Luke and Leia back together on screen then they could have just done a stand alone 1 off movie taking place some time after ROTJ where the old heroes reunited to help the New Republic finish off the Imperial Remnants under command of Thrawn. Just a simple final battle, a final union and some closure to the OT. Then do a completely original trilogy taking place in a different time period like the Old Republic or even far after the OT.

ClandestineOstrich I disagree... the plot to the original film was clear, simple, and created empathy for the characters. A boy loses everything, and longs to become something more in the fight against a very simple evil. TLJ is not. It throws off the viewer too many times, and doesn’t flow well at all. It’s overstuffed for no reason. It tries to make a statement of some kind. The original was a fun good vs evil romp with a fantastic cast with chemistry for days. The new cast is embarrassing compared to the fantastic original.

Prequels: George Lucas surrounded by Yes Men, over focus on CGi, weak script. Last Jedi: Rian Johnson surrounded by Yes Men, over focus on Practical Effects, weak script. "It's like poetry, it rhymes." There is one difference though, George did this with the Whole Trilogy so at the very least the 3 films are similar in tone and work well together. *Rian Johnson did this with the middle of a Trilogy that had caused it to not work with Force Awakens and only time will tell how well it works with Episode 9.*

You're actually right. The prequels, or at least the first two, were poorly written; but at least they has consistency and character interactions that were halfway realistic and charming. TLJ's interactions were clunky and awkward, and entirely inconsistent- Rose spends most of the movie hating Finn for trying to run away (even though that's not what he was doing), then all of the sudden she loves him; Rey barely knows Ren, having less than 15 minutes total screentime with him in TFA, yet they have some dark, sexually-charged connection that makes her want to "save" him even though all of her interactions with him are negative (torture, interrogation, imprisonment, murdering or injuring friends, being forced to fight him in a lightsaber duel). And she doesn't even interact with Finn or Poe in TLJ. At least in The Empire Strikes Back, we get a scene of Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie having downtime banter before things heat up. Luke, Han and Chewie even have a warm farewell moment before the Battle of Hoth. Obi-Wan and Anakin get a "good-bye" moment in Revenge of the Sith, as well. Rey and Poe have absolutely _no_ interaction at all, which is unfortunate since Poe seems to be a bigger character than Wedge Antilles ever was.

How to make Last Jedi watchable... 1) Switch Finn and Poe's roles. Finn remains aboard the cruiser as the doubting Thomas who's not fully trusted by the command staff. It makes more sense for him to be mistrusted seeing as he was a Stormtrooper two days ago. By all means, keep Rose there as the only person who trusts Finn or something. Poe takes a small ship to a nearby Republic military base to get reinforcements, and has a storyline where he needs to gain the trust of the local commander. He fails, and is about to leave when two new ships enter the system... 2) Luke takes his role as the Last Jedi seriously. He's been waiting on the island for the Force to send him the right person, the one person who can carry on the legacy of the Jedi. He's not sure that Rey is that person - she has to convince him, but he sees darkness in her. The "Where's Han?" moment becomes his deciding point, where he realises he can't just wait any longer, he has to trust the Force. Give Rey some _real_ training time. Bring in Yoda and Obi-wan here as well. 3) Ditch the story-breaking hyperspace tracking idea. Nobody knows how the First Order tracked them, which leads to paranoia and suspicion. Finally, during the evacuation to Crait, they realise that Finn has a tracking implant left over from when he was a Stormtrooper that he never knew about. He wants to throw himself out of the airlock, but Holdo won't let him, and it's too late anyway. 4) Leia pilots the _Raddus_ during the evactuation, not Holdo. 5) Reconfigure Kylo's fall. Luke tells how he was so caught up in his search for Jedi knowledge and wisdom that he didn't see what was growing in his own order. Snoke was there, not quite part of the order, presenting himself as a source of knowledge. Luke was so interested in the knowledge he could gain, he ignored his feelings, and trusted Snoke too much. Finally, they made their move. Luke was knocked out early in the battle, and doesn't know what happened to all his students. He blames himself for the disaster, hence his retreat. 6) Extended ground operations on Crait. Rose takes out the speeders to delay the First Order. Finn commands the ground forces, as a trained and experienced soldier. An extended ground battle as the First Order troops push into the base. This is where Finn's fight with Phasma comes, and it's done in a similar style to the deleted scene. Finally, when the Resistance troops have been pushed back to their last foothold, a squadron of x-wings appears over the cliff - Poe, a handful of Republic fighters, a YT-1300 freighter...and one old, outdated, battered, stained T-65 X-wing. Stuff happens, action scene, action scene, etc. We reach a point where Kylo is facing off against Rey. He talks to Kylo, calmly and reasonably, never raising his voice or even igniting his lightsaber as Kylo swings wildly at him, just dodging and talking. He apologises for letting Kylo down, and offers to help him find his way back. Kylo screams his refusal. Finally, unable to hit Luke, he force chokes Rey, lifts her into the air, and tries to cut her in half. Luke _catches the blade of the lightsaber_ with his bare hand, and with the slightest gesture he throws Kylo away. The Resistance fighters reach the Falcon and evacuate, leaving Kylo and the First Order behind. 7) Aboard the Falcon, Rey expresses disbelief at what Luke did. He shows her his hand, and the burn that's starting to spread. She panics, tries to get a med kit, but when she returns...there's just a pile of clothing on the floor. And a voice that whispers _we will always be with you_ . End credits.

Honestly think they should have went with Luke starting a new Jedi order, watching him train Jedi's and returning peace to the Galaxy in episode 7 and then episode 8 we see a Padawan fall to the dark side and cause some havoc. Episode 9 could show full circle how the force keeps things in balance in an ever ending war of light and dark side by Luke dying to the fallen Padawan and fleeing off to make his own "Empire". _The Last Jedi_ is as good as anyone could ever hope for in a 30+ year old Hollywood sequel, without being a complete retro-party for 40 year olds. It takes the old warned out stories and does something new and refreshing. The movie dares to evolve the universe of Star Wars and show us stuff we haven't seen before, like the light speed scene, which is breathtakingly beautiful and amazing. Sure its a Hollywood movie, its not on the _Godfather_ level of filmmaking, but neither was the originals. We could all tear apart any of the Stars Wars movies searching for ridiculous scenes and characters, but then we have to start with _Return of the Jedi_ , which is a clear number 1 on the WTF list. Actually, from what I could see, Lucas did NOT ignore everything everyone said through the making of the prequels. He did during the making of episode 1. But you can tell he took the criticism from the fans and critics on board, because he removed most of the bad things from episode 1, or at least made them so minor they didn't matter so much. He went from literally saying "it's all about Jar Jar", to making Jar Jar into even less than a bit part for the next two movies. So Lucas DID listen. Jar jar may have been annoying but he at least contributed more than Rose, Holdo. My examples, Even though he was an idiot he actually helped unite the people of Naboo. The humans they were prejudice against the gungans and they didnt get along, qui-gon 1) kept jar jar along for the ride because he knew the land, how to get to gungan city and to the city of naboo. 2) By keeping jar jar around the queen of naboo saw a side of the gungans her people overlooked and decided to give them a chance and it helped unite the once seperated factions to fight a common enemy. The trade federation. Yea Jar Jar was annoying, goofy and mostly meant for kids. But he didnt hinder the progress of the heroes like rose. He didnt halt the mission to free animals. He even helped lead the gungan army against the droids (not voluntary and he accidentally destroyed some droids). You missed the point of the documentary. It was about Disney doing damage control, and not about showing "artistic vision" of RJ. Even the people behind the scenes were laughing at some of his ideas, but still went on to do it because money. They're trying to put it all on his back, and not on Kennedy and other batshit crazy women involved.

Them bragging about how the movie made the top of the list that's mostly comprised of ancient titles reminds me of a local radio station that is bragging about how it's the most listened to station. The more I hear about what drove Johnson's plot choices and his attitude while making them, the more enraged I get. He wrote each plot point specifically for shock value or to counter people's expectations. NOT for good storytelling or appropriate treatment of characters we've come to know for going on decades. From Luke tossing the lightsaber to Snoke's death to Rey's origins. It was all just a big f*ck you to the SW fans. Google "The Last Jedi Doesn't Care What You Think About Star Wars" and you'll find an article by Slashfilm. Unfortunately, it's a praise of the film but it just shows you that this attitude was a conscious choice made by Johnson and Kennedy. We need to remove these two from this franchise or we won't have it anymore. And to make TLJ more watchable, please do a youtube search for "12 script changes to save The Last Jedi" and you'll find a vid by user Troy Leavitt which makes the film infinitely better. It's crazy how good it is in comparison. Check it out and you won't be disappointed.

With regards to your request for comments on the deleted scenes (I was gonna comment anyway), I was shocked, literally rewind-and-watch-it-again-because-I-didn't-believe-I'd-heard-what-I-knew-I'd-heard SHOCKED...“So much of Canto Bight was cut out, so much money was wasted!” The 1 scene (that was left in) which you could cut out and throw away without making any difference to the movie in any way whatsoever...and there was more of it?

I truly wish they would remake the movie. It's not actually making that much money though. A lot of those numbers are put out by Disney so that they can claim it's not as bad as it is. It's terrible. They know it. I believe with all of my heart that they knew it was bad before they made it. They made it as hardcore, crazy leftist propaganda. People hate it. Solo bombed because of what they did with this movie. They shot themselves in the foot and might have ended the series all together. And, the Hollywood leftist critics said all kinds of good things but the viewer reviews are really bad. I would love the last Jedi if... Luke wasn't turned into and evil cock sucker.... Rey had some kind of back story and wasn't a super "mary sue". If they kept Snoke alive and made something cool out of him. I mean, they could've made him Plagueis and blown our minds. Instead, they kill him off for no reason right away. Luke should've been the main star of the movie. Not Rey and Kylo. It should've been luke's movie. Star Wars is about the Skywalkers. That's it. That's what Star Wars is. And, they should've gotten rid of the stupid Leia superman space scene... and all of the feminist/leftist propaganda.... so basically, they would've needed an entirely different movie for it to be watchable.

okay honestly this is going to be the last opinion that I have about this movie. 1. Kathleen Kennedy and Ryan Johnson can say that their Star Wars fans all they want to but the both of them are liberal driven and their ideals were blatantly shown in this movie especially Kathleens ideals. 2. Everyone that is sitting on the creative team for the Star Wars movies has no idea what Star Wars is and they sure as hell are not fans. When my local Toyz R Us closed - in its last days - guess what they had a big display with most of the merchandise still there for? Star Wars. Was tempted to buy - at $1 a large action figure of that Purple Haired Diversity Hire "General" then dig a pit in the back yard and pretend to hold a mock execution to the Saarlac. But - my inner child awakened, my Jabba the Hutt action figure (remember that playset!?) came alive and started a protest with all his scary Muppet friends... "This is horrible! Disgusting. Cruel. To the poor Saarlac. You feed it that hideous harpy who's only good thing is she's overdressed, and you'll make that magnificent creature die a slow, horrible death!" So, nope, not even $1 to Disney to support in any way... With the exception of underestimating Luke, Jabba was really smart. The best way to approach it is: "There ain't no such thing as Star Wars anymore" Ended when Lucas sold out. Don't judge, he worked so hard on the pre-quels but the media (?Disney influence? One man's opinion) told the Hipsters to hate them and had paid entertainers pretending to be critics to spit venom on them. Then - after he sold out these suck busters are loved by fashionable hipsters and the critics love them... But, no such thing as Star Wars. I mean it's complete. We don't have new Wells, Asimov, Heinlein works. Derivative sh-t made with their names, but no new "Friday part 2" novel and movie - heh, "Friday" as a movie, that'd be cool. Imagine how the SJW's would shriek but I bet they'd make jumpsuits for ladies with easily zippable fronts and they'd sell... So, I simply don't BUY it. Oh, no, I don't "Steal" it either. Simply put, if my DVDs get stomped I'll get used. Won't get anything 'new' so no way Disney will benefit. Don't have to boycott Disney - even Amish have a hard time doing it, but can make sure NOT to buy. And don't steal either - that adds value to the product - corporations actually charge advertisers extra - That bootleger ain't going to take time to edit out your DiaBetuz soda, pal, pay for 'extralegal promotion'... So don't support Disney owned Star Wars, if you need that "ewoks" cartoon set buy a used DVD set on Amazon, don't stream or buy new - the sales take hits that turn into that huge line going down on the poster board/room display at the corporate board meeting and the CEO is sweating bullets. Yeah, they can claim they are on the charts - etc. Right now even with this Death Star beam of Suck it'll sell. They could make a Star Wars movie of Jar Jar using his tongue on Lucas's A--- for 2 hours and pay the entertainers claiming to be critics to tell the Hipsters its art and there'd be sales. Probably bring back that "Jar Jar Tongue" lollipop... But it'd suck. And long term it'll die at last officially. I hate SJW culture as much as the next person, but TLJ didn't come off that way AT ALL to me. Not even in the slightest, regardless of what the higher-ups are like. They complain about not enough women or minorities being in lead roles, and then you people complain when there IS women and minorities in lead roles. If they had told somebody not to 'man-spread', I'd be inclined to agree, but they didn't. Julie, i think they mix toghether the weak plot with the SJW agenda, and point that Holdo and Rose (and Rey) make the film bland. What is not. A character is trully "agendy" if they cant be someone else. You can make Akbar takes the role of Holdo, and anything changes at all, the film will be bad. The problem with this film is the terrible storytelling and bad characters, not who is these characters. Please, forgive my broken english.
