How about on a 2016 kia forte lx on cold start for 5-15 seconds rough idle like engine is going to shut off and lots of smoke and gas smell from exhaust.

2010 2.0 L has 2@vvt? With ignition on only not running get 7.7 volts at the only Vvt I can find. . After R&R fuel pump engine ran little bit but now not stay running when does run & put into drive engine dies.

DOO A VIDEO ON WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED... because on my 2017 kia sportage i can not find the vvt solenoid, bank 1 or 2 intake side..

Bad spark plug or ignition coil can cause it to think it's bad and misfire check engine light vvt is bad.. Test VVT solenoid and check your engine spark plugs.. If all check out good then your timeing chain is getting weak..
