"I can't feel you." Hits hard especially the talk Rouge and Gambit had earlier. Can't feel physically feel him due her powers, can't feel him emotionally really. Also seeing those deaths were crazy. It wasn't just getting hit with lasers and they done. Some got evaporated, some got crushed by debris. That shot with Callisto dying got me too. Just seeing the life leaving her eyes .

That turn in the final third of this episode hit SO HARD. It was just so unexpected for everything to turn so dark so quickly. Also, the triangle of love triangles were all handled really well in a way that felt earned and developed. And the final confrontation with the sentinel... If you aren't crying over our boy, Gambit, by the end of this episode, then you need to reevaluate your status as a human being 😭

X-Men and I go back to 80’s and I don’t remember a Harder showing of Gambit! First thought comes to mind of Gambit and Wolverine battling when Wolverine lost his healing powers late 80’s in the comics.

In X-Men The Animated Series in the 90s, Cable went back in time and kidnapped Wolverine and managed to make an antidote to destroy a virus that Apocalypse made. Before destroying the virus, Cable said : “The names Cable, remember it, Apocalypse!” Coincidently, Cable's first appearance in X-Men the animated series was in Genosha when he first met Gambit who escaped from the Slave Island. Cable helped Gambit unlock his collar which allowed him to rescue Storm and Jubliee and the other mutants as well. And the new Cable is voiced by Chris Potter who voiced Gambit in the original Xmen Animated Series.

From the Ace of Base song, the episode played with our emotions. I was so shocked and not sure what I had just witnessed that I rewatched it. "Sugar, I can’t feel you!" was brutal… Utterly and painfully brutal. As a massive fan of Rogue, what they did to her is way worse than killing her. I’m sure, I’d have cried less. When the journalist said the next scenes will be distressing, she was breaking the fourth wall there. For once she can touch Gambit… She could not even tell him she chose him. They hurt my Rogue in the worst way possible…

I loved the ambiguity of when Rogue had truly made her decision to be with Remy and not Erik; was it when he kissed her and she couldn’t feel for him like she used to compared to before (or to Gambit), was she testing her confused feelings, had she already decided and wanted to do the dance as a farewell, etc…? It’s wild how well-written not just that sequence, but the dialogue as a whole; the fact Beau DeMayo was let go actually has me wondering how good the future Seasons shall be. Magneto’s eloquence in speech, the nuance in the different relationships (that actually outdoes the comics versions in many ways), and the great foreshadowing of everything. So much good, it’s crazy…

This show took me back to my childhood so it was never an episode at the end of the day I knew all the X-men was going be ok so that feeling carried over to X-men 97. The omega mutant they were referring to in the show was magneto. Sadly, Gambit lost his omega mutant status before his powers fully manifested in the comics when he had Sinister labotimize him. Otherwise he would be able to destroy entities like the Phoenix without breaking a sweat

Jesus this episode was an emotional gut punch. Seeing Rogue holding Gambit and saying I can't feel you is just heartbreaking. This was the first episode to take elements serious elements from a Post Claremont storyline. Minus the appearance of Cassandra Nova, this is right from Grant Morrison's first issues of The X-men where Giant Sentinel wiped out 16 million mutants on Genosha. A storyline I originally hated for all the senseless deaths. There are also elements of the Mutant Massacre as well. Every member of the voice cast was on point for this. On top of that, we had the continued love triangle of Gambit/Rogue/Magneto. Plus Jean/Scott/Logan/Maddie. Besides the rollercoaster in this episode we have some of the biggest cameos yet, Leech, Pixel, Glob, Nightcrawler, Banshee, Moria, Dazzler, Boom-Boom, Cable, Sebastian Shaw, Emma Frost and the Morlocks. Among many others. Also, Rogue's dress was very much inspired by her one from her "date" with Gambit in X-men Issue 4, the same issue the introduced Omega Red. I don't know how they will top this episode.

A lot of folks have been calling this the Red Wedding moment, but it just hit me that this kind of combines three “Red Weddings” from the comics into one traumatic event. Mutant Massacre with the Morlocks in harm’s way, the Genoshan genocide(obv), and the Hellfire Gala debacle. Callisto did appear to have died, but Shaw, Maddy and a few others all had pillows under their heads, as if they were unconscious, but alive. Cable's "not again" might suggest that he's been trying to change things for a while, to have and outcome where key figures survive (possibly Magneto and his mom). Perhaps, he can only succeed in saving one. And if he saves Madelyne, mutant kind falls without Magneto. There's also a chance Leech survived. In the og series, Wolverine was hesitant to use his blood to save him, not knowing how it would affect Leech. It healed him. It's possible Leech retained some of Wolverine's healing ability.

Anazing story telling. I heard it’s already been greenlit for a 3rd season by Disney. This simply speaks to the confidence they have in what transpires throughout. It’s a shame the writer was fired. Even song Happy Nation musically tells the story so well of the shared struggles and the meaning of Genosha to the mutants. Thank you for reminding me how awesome the X-men are. There is hope for Marvel once again. If only they can depict the characters like this in the eventual movie. Congratulations on another banger of an episode.

If you wanna know the story they're covering it's called "E is for Extinction" that happened during the 2000's. It was wild, and they got a good chunk of it in the show. Who's behind the attack is could be different from that story due to someone who was hinted at inn episode 4.

From what I understand the show runners had said in an interview that this was made for the adult fans. That it would be broken into two parts. The first being the optimistic bright and "cheery" part. Being where the show left off, then it would go through its 9/11. That's what this was, the mutants 9/11. No one say it coming, there was so much loss of life and they'll never been the same after. Even the name goes with that theme. Sure it Ganbits catch phrase, but it's very similar to the "never forget", following the event.

Let this be a testament that woke writers can also give brilliantly captivating blissfully enjoyable writing. Folks were hating HARD on Beau Demayo for being gay. Major props to BEAU DEMAYO's brilliant writing of this X-men 97 eps 1-5 so far.
