In the second episode, Executioner makes a point of talking about how annoyed he is that mutants complain about their situation. He says something along the lines of "I'm tired of your whining, it's hard being normal as well" and it's just a wonderfully topical moment. A lot of the backlash against oppressed communities comes from that feeling of "I have it hard too, what makes you special?" As if that justifies bigotry, instead of solidarity.

I checked out both of the newest episodes yesterday, and I have to say I was literally *BLOWN AWAY* by how good the episodes were. The outstanding animation and seamless 3D and 2D animation blend are mesmerising. The story also truly feels like a continuation of the original show, and the plot lines and twists introduced are wonderfully written and executed. *Possibly some of the best Marvel content we've ever received in a long time.* I adored the characterisation of Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Magneto, Jean, Rogue, etc... Everyone truly felt like nothing had changed, but it still felt satisfying to see them again. I loved seeing the focus on Cyclops and him and Jean questioning the future of the X-men and their child. Seeing Magneto genuinely want to change for his friend was really powerful, especially with that speech in episode 2, which, holy s***, was an intense moment, and his final "don't make me let you down", total CHILLS! But watching Storm lose her powers was heartbreaking and devasting, especially since Storm is one of my favourite X-men and female superheroes. Her losing her powers was the equivalent of chemical castration, and seeing her mentally process it almost brought me to tears.

Thank you for pointing out that a big part of the x-men success is the intense soap opera melodrama that glues the civil rights/anti-bigotry metaphors together. Also, these 2 episodes underscore how some stories can’t be done in live action. Can you imagine how expensive it would be to make the roughly 1 hour of action and melodrama with real actors? Is it possible for a live actor to deliver the purple prose of Storm, Rogue, or Magneto with the dramatic impact and not come off goofy or sarcastically self-deprecating (like almost all the live action x-men movies tend to do)?
@tolkienblack8 ай бұрын

I hope that recent trends (X-Men, Spider-verse, Arcane, etc) continue and we get even more serious stories told with animation instead of just episodic kids shows. Animation is an incredibly technical and time-consuming art, but it’s also ridiculously more economical than live action. You don’t need to build sets, build props, coordinate the schedules of hundreds of crew, pray that the weather forecast is accurate; action scenes aren’t bound by the laws of physics or the limitations of the human body; you can go back and change any element of any scene at any point in time. It’s crazy how many limitations of live-action production that animation completely solves.

"Charles Xavier entrusted me with his dream, and it does not ask you to love or embrace my kind as your own. But merely to accept that this i a shared world with a common future and that my kind, like yours, have the right to live in it" is a line that could not have been more relevant unless it had been spoken 90 years ago in the 1930s. as a Trans person it was Jarring hearing those words so overtly and feeling for the first time that a piece of media was taking a stance and making its stance as clear cut as possible. it was the most genuine set of words i have ever heard, and i had never felt so empowered in my life. I dont think ill ever forget that feeling. i have that clip saved on YT so that whenever i need it, the X-Men will be there to remind me that i do have a place in this world, and i have a right to be here as does everyone else, differences be dammed. the show did not need to do this for me to be a fan. i have always loved the X-Men. and the new art style and the way the Characters use their abilities both on and off the battle field is so creative and awesome that this show already had me hooked. what was just as Jarring as Magnetos words was my internal reaction to hearing the word mutant and freak used as a slur by Friends of Humanity members. because both are things i have been called in real life. those aren't stand in slurs or backhanded comments swapped out. they ARE MY experience with bigotry. and every time i heard those words being used to describe me as if i wasn't a person, it hurt sure, but I'm not ashamed of who i am. i know I'm different. i don't need the world to constantly remind me and treat me as such. and whenever it does it just proves to me why stories like X-Men are important. because they are real in the ways that matter. Sentinels aren't real, i (unfortunately cant shoot lasers from my eyes). but the injustice, the bigotry, the hate thrown at the Trans and wider Queer community IS real. and were not the only community to face this. i dont even know WHY I'm saying all this but i felt compelled to. to have my voice heard even if its just as a blur on someone phone as they scroll through a YT comment section. But i think that just speaks more to the affect this show and in particular that quote i started with had on me. i will never forget that. which is saying something because ask phone, i forget thing very easily lol.

And they're already doing way more interesting stuff with Morph in fights, instead of just a shapeshifter with a blaster gun. Great. Also, I LOVE comic relief Wolverine, the old show did this too but taking how serious he is and using it to land jokes...when a VERY Pregnant Jean yelled "Logan, he's here!" "Who, Apocalypse!?" I cracked up, man. I was worried just because they fumbled the ball so bad when they did a few "X-men '92" comic series, where instead of telling good stories with this group they just got obsessed with "what would this character look like in this version of Xmen?". I also thought the animation looked worrying in trailers (cheap) but I am so happy to be wrong on that front. Off to a better start than I could've ever imagined.

I watched the first two episodes and am rewatching the original series now. XMen has always been my favorite comic books. 5:15 I'm glad they're sticking to the source material on this series 14:12 they could bring in Chasm since they're doing Madeline 🙃

I think we’re gonna get a Gambit betrayal that will lead to the Morlock Mutant Massacre, Fall of the Mutants, maybe death of the X Men/ Outback era, leading to Inferno

Something a little less mentioned, but I really liked the dance scene at the club with everyone, but especially Jubilee and Sunspot just vibing. It's a great character moment for Jubilee and her dancing while setting off fireworks is really fun.

After 3 episodes, I love it, but I could complain about the plot being very fast and moving from one plot to another too quickly. Each episode feels like the plot of a movie but condensed to 25 minutes

I've never really cared for the original animated series because when it came out I was young enough to think it looked ugly and that perception's kind of stuck with me for the rest of my life, so to see how beautifully animated this series ended up was a really great surprise.

when i was a kid, i wasnt a big xmen fan but my favorite character was Cyclops mainly because his power was flashy and I thought he was shooting laser beams, my older cousins were into Wolverine cause he can heal and had claws...that Cyclops fight justified my choice

Haven’t seen a big melodramatic superhero soap opera like this in a while. We know they’re doing parts of Inferno and Lifedeath. But one thing I feel like they’re building to also is Operation: Zero Tolerance. All the Sentinel stuff in the first two eps plus the FoH talking about “upgrading themselves” makes me feel that Bastion will at least show up as a teaser in the final ep of the season.

Given the last few Marvel shows with Loki as the exemption. I wasn't expecting X-Men 97 to be this good. The show is a superb continuous with a few modern touches that push the show forward. The writing is great with Magneto delivering some epic speeches. They showcased Storms amazing powers with great visuals. Finally they gave Cyclops the moments he deserves. Best super hero landing for sure.

Just finished the first two episodes and I am 100% in. The writing is clever and has some great tension, it's got interpersonal drama right next to the larger political drama. And it's also got some truly astounding voice work and comedy. When Jean starts to go into labor and Wolverine jumps to thinking they're getting attacked, the way Jean spits out "the BABY" had me laughing so hard I had to pause the show. And as soon as I unpause it's Logan being completely dumbfounded as Jean whaps him with his jacket and the keys, and I had to pause again.

Honestly, if Xmen never joined the MCU, I'd be ok. Why? Because they restarted this beloved series. And they've blown it out the park so far.

Yeah, they don’t need to mate cash cows just yet. Let them flirt for a couple presidential elections.

Thanks for recognizing the more soapy aspects of the X-Men. I feel a lot of X writers forget that important piece of the team relationships.

If you like Easter Egg hunting there is a copy of the Daily Bugle that blows in the breeze across the screen, just at the end of the first action set-piece in episode one, where you can freeze-frame and read some fun in-universe meta references. You're welcome.

A moment that convinced me they stuck the landing was the recreation of that old 3d model credits but with updated models. (That, and everything with cyclops)

The show is so good. All it's really missing is Charles Xavier screaming for unnecessarily long periods of time. If he ever returns from the Shi’ar Empire, I hope it's the first thing he does.

Oh boy, there were some good X-men games back in the day: that 4-6 players X-men arcade, X-Men 2: Clone Wars, Children of the Atom and X-Men vs Street Fighter and of course X-Men: Legends.

Molecule Man and Beyonder-related: As far as kids shows on now, my elementary school aged kid and I *love* Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. The story has been so good over the two seasons and I’m surprised that this has made my little kid want to and actually cosplay AS MOLECULE MAN. (Also has those Wolverine claws Nando has.) I really wasn’t sure if my kid would be interested in X-Men ‘97 but they have been!

This is 100% why I believe X-men should always be adapted as animation bc you can do soooo much more impractical effects with animation and not tied down with restrictions from live action/CGI. It’s much more richer in 2D.

I loved this so much. I love that they're bringing in elements from storylines that were after the original cartoon ended. I think literally my only complaint is that Rogue doesn't really sound like the early twenties badass she once did. She sounds more like my 60-something chain-smoking aunt.

I started collecting Uncanny X-Men with issue 200 when it came out. I was hooked on Claremont's writing for years afterwards. Seeing X-Men 97 start off with some of the major plotlines from that issue, The Birth of Cable, the Trial of Magneto, etc, makes me VERY excited to see how close they stick to the comics. Especially since some of those stories get dark in a way that I wouldn't expect Disney to cover.

The only real problem I had, was that the Theme song turned the volume down on the iconic Gong. I know it wasn't originally written in by the composer, but the Exec that suggested it was spot on and it's important. X97 made it so quiet 😥
