Wow. Heard all these cats plenty but never the bassist. Larry Evans? He sounds like a monster. Did he play around New York much. Who with?I cut my teeth on Art Blakey and Horace Silver and saw many versions of groups they led but never this bassistN and as I say he sounds like a monster. Any other recordings or video performances w him?

One of my favorite editions of The Jazz Messengers! This band were very explosive, reminiscent of the 1962-1964 band of Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton and Reggie Workman!

If they ever do a movie about the musical journey and influence of Art Blakey, Wesley Snipes should be the lead actor. His resemblance and acting chops are impeccable.

at this level, these musicians are not playing what is real, that is, what you hear. it is beyond that. they are playing their transcendence, their soul, their atman. The word boring has no meaning here. It is you who do not feel anything. It is a long work. jazz is not a McDonald's. Think about it and meditate on it...sorry for the violence of my words.
