can't wait for the next two videos of these, I've been waiting for someone to be willing to do an explanation.

Mind=Blown. Bringing the ideology of Photoshop in a 3D engine. Epic. Some questions: 1) How does this effect level streaming? Do you enable edit layers on each level that you stream? 2) Would you use this when creating caves? Or Do you build caves via rock mesh placements?
@WorldofLevelDesign4 жыл бұрын
1) I haven't tried this with streaming so I can't say 2) No, caves have to be done with Static Meshes. Terrain heightmaps in UE4 only work along height (Z axis)

I feel like merging all the layers works well when using large landmass splines and doing quick editing. Ty for the video I learned a lot.

I remembered when you did l4d videos your mic was really bad but it was a satisfying bad. Anyway good to hear no crappy mic now good luck with your KZbin videos.

You are one of the only ones I see using the layers 😄. So it's good to see you focus on its importance. But with just starting out with Unreal Engine en immediatly to UE5, I see also 'Landmass'. But I don't immediatly see the difference between 'Landscape' and 'Landmass'. What is the difference between them?

Thanks. I got where I failed. I didn't enabled layers at the creating step and now I haven't them in my lanscape settings.

is it possible during play to edit one of the landscape layers? to make a crater from a blast? thank you

Hello, i found nothing even on Forum about the possibility to '' Hide / Visible '' some landscape layers un runtime while playing? Exemple,i want the playeto build multiple house, but since the map is hills and valley, if i place a housde without modifiying the terrain, the house will glitch through the terrain, so i need to flat the zone before and placing the house after. Unreal by default doesnt support that without a plugin like Voxel wich i dont want to use for my project. So with the possibility to Hide a Layers, what i could do is, when the player is ready to place a house ( to a specific location, exemple the player buy a land, this land become flat due to the Layers that was Hidden but now Visibile. Now this land square is now flat and ready for the player to build what he want on it. ) Is is possible to achieve that? or Landscape layers can't be changed in Runtime? Thanks!

Thanks so much for this. I was wondering if merging them back into a single heightmap will have a performance benefit

Having an issue when using Landscape layers with World Composition. It seems like you have to have all your levels loaded for the landscape layers to work and when you have a lot of levels/landscapes, that can get really slow.
@jaymike50624 жыл бұрын
There definitely is a way to do it..I don't know how I did it myself but in my test project I can edit the layers on each tile seperately like you would normally for a simple landscape....but yet haven't been able to figure out how on earth I was able to..I don't remember doing anything different
@massivetree79374 жыл бұрын
@@jaymike5062 Unless I just couldn't find it, I didn't see any documentation or info about using landscape layers with multiple landscapes or with World Composition on what, if anything, has to be done differently then on a single landscape.

@@massivetree7937 This is the weird thing. Where is the documentation? It should be in the documentation wether or not its in world composition or not..or how it works there.. Why is no one else talking about it anywhere...aren't large worlds more common..is this not an issue others are having? Weird.
@massivetree79374 жыл бұрын
@@jaymike5062 Landscape layers are a relatively new thing and still in development for 4.26 so maybe they're still flushing the tools out.... There are docs here for using layers here but nothing really about using them with World Composition or with multiple landcapes. docs.unrealengine.com/en-US/Engine/Landscape/Layers/index.html

I have a couple of questions. (1) how can I create the ocean floor and connect them to the main island like in GTA V. (2) I think world composition is too stifling/restrictive by containing creators to that orange box. What if I wanted to create a whole country as big as the United States or Russia? I heard it is possible but I don't know how to go about doing it.

Use external terrain generating software such as world machine, world creator, terragen, gaea.
@WorldofLevelDesign4 жыл бұрын
You'll have to use World Composition, it was specifically created for open-world. GTA engine is a totally different beast and we don't have access to it unfortunatly. Also do what mashOnoid comment said about external terrain generators. You'll have to use them to quickly create large terrains and texture them.
