I love how the developers actually treated the textures as regular 'sprite-work' instead of using things like photos and how cleverly they utilised the limited aspects of the N64 to their advantage, making some of these models and textures look so 'detailed'. (For an N64 game mind you, the maximum texture resolution per texture was 128x64 or 64x128 pixels in limited 16 colour palette (notice the dithering on some of the textures)). Definitely shows that a lot of time and effort went into this game.

I think that all of us who played Castlevania on Nintendo 64 did this: since only 10 roasted chickens could be stored, we consumed one to fill our energy level without needing it, in order to collect the chickens we found along the way🤣​

The sound design in this game is top-notch. Lots of variations of the boss theme for different fights, that's kind of uncommon, even today, back then was a rarity.

I love this one. It was the first Castlevania I was raised with. I technically have both this and the normal Castlevania 64, but Legacy of Darkness was my favorite one, even if Carrie (my favorite character in the franchise) wasn't immediately playable.

I hope the next Netflix adaptation after "Nocturne" is a mix of "Legacy of Darkness", "68" and "Order of Eclesia" (the latter because we are never specified when in the 1800s it's set). I imagine the story would be about Barlowe and the Actrise trying to corrupt either Xanoa or Cornell, more likely Xanoa. One thing I hope to see on that show, is to see Aida remember it was her older brother who murdered her biological parents, leaving her prone to be bitten and ready to fight for her masters. Nothing personal, I just don't think it's good for her to forget something like that. I imagine the story would begin with Cornell and Aida (Barlowe would be the mastermind trying to get the curse's power for Dominus), but while he would succeed at saving her by giving up his power, I imagine Guilles would turn her into one and use her to torment the former werewolf. Then, we would jump to the "68" storyline, only this time including Xanoa instead of Dracula's kid version.

I grew up with the SNES castlevania games as well as playing SOTN right after it hit the states. I love all things to do with this franchise and really enjoyed 64 and Legacy back in the day. I know they have a bad rep but I like them.

I agree. And Legacy of Darkness did improve on some aspects. Carrie's waterway, for example, has bigger pillars, makign that section in the updated version a bit easier. Too bad the art tower and Ruin Tower were exclusive to Cornell's story. Carrie and rheinhardt should have each had one of the new towers. Considering Cornell visits alost every level, save for both underground areas. I still have a genuine fondness for both titles.

Do not encounter Malus! Instead, find your way around the maze until you find the exit to the key! Break the vase which has the key hidden inside. However, you still have to go through a boss before moving on and that's Frankenstien. Thankfully, he could die in this version unlike the first one which he doesn't. This means he was meant to die from the first Castlevania 64! Unfortunately, the game was badly rushed which was why this version exist! Leaving a bunch of unanswered mysteries which will never be solved like the bolted door or why Coller never showed up or what that UNUSED wedding ring was supposed to be! :(

The problem with this game are the graphics, especially the low -resolution textures , the total lack of antialiasing and the robotic animations. The game itself is very good, but technically this game can not be compared to other games in the catalog of Nintendo 64. For example, Turok 2 is a game of the same year , but technically it is really, REALLY, much better .

I strongly disagree. Turok 2 might have had shaper textures and lighting effects, but it also had the framerate of a slideshow. It made it unplayable. Framerate is relevant to graphics. There was also the dark fog everywhere. Castlevania Legacy of Darkness had way better viewing distance (the Clock Tower in particular is amazing), a far smoother framerate, and bigger, more varied and interesting levels. And yes, this game DID use the expansion pack, it gives the option to raise the resolution, but it lowers the framerate. Stick with the lower-res option.

Maybe you're thinking about Malus, from Reinhardt and Carrie's versions. In Cornell's version of the game, he saves Henry, who grows up to be the knight dude rescuing the kids in the fourth version.

The platforming is very fun and Malus made one amazing dracula. This is definitely better than those overrated metroidvania Castlevania games for sure.
