I never realised until recently how scary, and specially, how surreal PoP2 was. It had: a magic carpet, skeleton swordmen, lava pools, deep pits with spikes on the bottom, flying fleshless heads, deadly venomous snakes, bissecting blades traps, swordmen wearing bird heads, a giant spider that worked as a platform, chess pieces with human heads on top of them, a final boss arena with a complete mindscrewing perspective and a final scene where a creepy witch watched Prince and the Princess riding a flying horse on her crystal ball. Damn! And on top of that, a rather spooky soundtrack with Arabic/Persian motifs that scared me as a kid. For a platform adventure game, it sure had a good deal of horror elements in it, that's one of the reasons I love this game so much, Jordan Mechner is friggin genius.

no, back in those days, you had to buy PC GAME magazines, in hopes someone makes a note with walkthroughs or tips..........I didn't heard of someone doing it with Prince of Persia (thou they did mention the prince megahit cheat codes), and I think in some they mention vagely some tips to go through some levels, but not specific points like the multiple ways of turning into a ghost, etc.... but for example, in one magazine, I got the FULL maps of Blues Brothers game, full A2 poster..........also, it wasn't like today, that games were solved in 3hs (if you skip the 8hs of cutscenes).....a graphic adventure like Monkey Island 2 could take you MONTHS to finish.......you had to share all your info with school mates, to see where they were at the moment,

That's why I never finished Prince of Persia 1 or 2 - I had hard time getting past level 1 actually :) and since there was time limit of 60 minutes I was thinking it have 6 or maybe 8 levels. When later I learned it has 12(!) I stopped trying..

Well.....it was a way for them to sell more copies. And they never published solutions of new games, but rather of at least 1 year old games. They focused more on show new games and tech, since there is were developers and publishing companies give them the $$$. Even if this sounds like they made their ratings depending on how much they got paid, back then a magazine had a name for themselves and they took this way above any publisher (unlike today that any stupid youtuber says whatever they get paid to by companies, in order to promote their crap of games).

The nostalgia to this game is so strong, not because I liked the game, but because this game was my moms favourite, and the time she played that, was one of the very rare times I could see her happy and excited before she passed away from lung cancer Watching this video, I could remember every funny comment she made on the mobs, and the sceneries, and when I used to joke and make fun of her when she was defeated or fall or got stuck, she would call me with her smily and sarcastic face "!!تعال نططني ولا" which can roughly translates to "yo, come help me with that jump!!" We never finished the game, that was back in 1999 and 2000 Thank you so much for uploading this, it brought to me precious beautiful memories from my childhood with my mom.

As a kid, I never made it past the temple ruins, and reaching them was already a big achievement to me. 15 years later I decided to give the game another shot, since it held so many good memories ; ims I made it to the bird temple, second level (there's a jump at the beginning I could never get right, and I got bored after a while and moved on). I can't remember how many times I died trying to memorize all the jumps to get to the magic horse. And that was with a cheat to disable the time limit, as I'm really not a fan of this mechanic. What a great game and memories!!! I spent so many afternoons going through every level and stage, on an old Macintosh. That's how I managed to find some details: - Level 10 you can pass it very easily, jumping directly through the upper space of the level exit portal. - In any stage of the red temple, if you have more than 8 or 10 lives, you can summon the shadow (with the left-right movement) and go eliminating guards or going through parts of the level without being affected (except for the moving wall), you need the flame to pass the level. - If you reach the last level and you already spent your lives and threw the fireballs and you haven't eliminated Jaffar, you can recover and add lives, eliminating guards in the spider section. - In Macintosh, there was a bug that if you went up the exit portal and pressed some keys (I don't remember which ones), the Prince didn't pass the portal and remains floating, so you could go through the level as if you were walking in the air, then, you just went back up the portal to continue the game or you could jump from somewhere to return to the real ground level. Other things: - I always wanted to know what was the real intention of the fire sword, beyond being an enemy, it would have been an amazing power-up. - Same situation with the little dwarf in one of the red temple levels, if you don't get there, it's useless, it's a dead space, very similar to the POP1 level where the mouse saves you. - I always tried to jump from the first level, just break the window and fall to the floor, to the right side, where you can see the tower of the last level, but it's impossible to reach. - I always wanted the real third part of the game, continuing the story of the Snake Witch!!!!

This is the third walkthrough of this game that I've stumbled across. First one had some unneeded commentary which made it hard to focus on the video itself. Second one was without commentary. With both, I was shocked at that moment when it's revealed that the nameless hero really IS a prince. The remake revealed even more about the Prince. *Spoilers! Read the rest at your own risk!* In said remake it was revealed that Jaffar was the one who lead the attack that destroyed that city and left the Prince an orphan.
@SorenDaein7 жыл бұрын
Since I mentioned the remake, actually got it from the Google Play Store last month. For those who want to play said remake, there are two different control schemes: "Gesture" and "Joystick". Gesture makes full use of the device's touch screen while Joystick makes for a more standard handheld approach. I have the game on my smart phone. It's a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. Took awhile after I found out about the game's release to get the means to purchase it but I'm glad I did. Got the hang of it faster than I had originally expected despite the amount of times I died and had to use the new "Revive" potions. I had to change the control scheme to "Joystick" since the "Gesture" one was giving me a bit of a hard time with the most basic actions.

So was this ending a pre-cursor to a planned third game? What's with the witch and the S-sign on her forehead that's seen throughout the game? This is arguably the best game ever made, along with the most obnoxiously difficult and filled with cheap deaths. It's beautiful, engaging, mysterious, scary, long and amazing. I played it a lot on DOS and if it were out for the Genesis, I would've played it alot on it too...

@@janussciencegaming Kinda sad that the actual third Prince of Persia game of the original trilogy never came into fruition. Continuing after The Shadow of the Flame left off, we could see the Prince facing off the Army of Darkness and the old witch, who will be the final boss of the game. Jaffar would return in PoP3 (not Prince of Persia 3D) as a phantom and the mid-boss. The Prince would probably gain new weapons like several new swords and the he can also use a bow and arrow. He will also learn new spells, most are elemental spells for offense and defense, while another spell will be a healing spell that can only use three or five times for each level. There will new levels and they are different, as instead of traveling the whole country, he will travel around the world to find the artifacts to destroy the witch for good. Also, there will be new playable characters along the way as the Prince will meet them during his travels. The Prince will have 80 days to travel the world and returning back home while he brings his allies there. But the actual gameplay itself lasted 3 hours but must complete it less than 3 hours. Somebody should make a KickStarter for PoP 3.

@@Isaac-gh5ku bows were historically inaccurate for the time. Even in the begining of the game, after you jump of the window and jump to the right of the balcony you see a guard holding a sword. @SorenDaein7 жыл бұрын
There was a prototype for the Genesis that was similar to this one but with only just a little bit different. Biggest difference is at the end when you actually get to the Jaffar fight unlike the SNES forgery that skips to the ending. The Genesis prototype requires you to use the Sacred Flame to finish Jaffar to end the game, but he'll keep running from you so you'll have to get yourself set up for the perfect shot and let it fly. The previously mentioned "big difference" is that the cutscene that has him screaming in agony as he's being burned to death doesn't happen. Only know the details of such cause the "World of Longplays" website has an upload of the PoP2 Genesis prototype that can be viewed. Crying shame this didn't make it to home consoles in its full glory back when it first came out. There'd be a lot more walkthroughs.

I believe the blame can be put on Titus Software, because they seem to have thought basically porting over from a DOS version was enough. They were like Electronic Arts is now.
@Zero99iGames6 жыл бұрын
I think it is an optimization issue. Titus was a French company and the TV standard here in Europe is 50Hz and therefore a 16% slower framerate if I remember correctly. The NTSC version was just never adapted to the faster framerate and therefore runs faster then it should. The PAL version still runs faster than the DOS version, but isn't as unplayable

But it was made years after so since japanese computers were much advanced, they could add extra settings and also reuse resources from external files or from the DOS port. FMtown is is a bit more responsive and smooth. There are some settings in japanese which allow you to mess around with the game. In DOS the player has to time his keys differently. While on normal mode FMtown plays just like the first Prince Of Persia

I don't remember how long it took me to beat this game; I just know I had help and two of the puzzles (the skeleton on the bridge and the Flame) I actually exploited glitches-because that's how the person showing me how to actually beat the game got past those sections (didn't realize that those weren't the "proper" way to beat the level). (If you're wondering: if you go to the bridge skeleton, and then retreat 2 rooms away, it despawns the bridge skeleton, while the music is still playing. The game considers the bridge skeleton dead and opens the door. And for the flame? If you jump to the flame platform and then jump back, the game opens the exit doors, though it doesn't have the scene with the guards bowing to you. Instead, watch several birdman guards jump off a cliff trying to get to you. The game STILL considers that you got the flame in the final level). That being said: 27:34: Wait, you can kill the snakes with your sword? No, seriously: you can kill the snakes with your sword? How many years ago did I play this game and spend the whole time just jumping over the snakes because I thought the only way to kill them was to get a loose piece of floor to fall on it? Even the person that actually showed me how to beat the game never figured this out.
