When you look at history behind the game, its astonishing the amount of perils they had to endure. World of Warships is a great game, but it's also important for people to learn about the battles, ships and men IRL to gain an appreciation for it. Thank you for this WG; can't wait for the second part.-TheSneakySnake

I agree with your sentiment but although some undoubtably sacrificed themselves and their lives i would say most 'lost' their lives and didn't 'sacrifice' themselves volountarily. Lest we forget🙏

A very well done segment, with interviews shared between the men of the countries involved. We were allies in those days . . . let's hope it happens again, despite all the bellicose rhetoric we hear of late (on both sides). Thanks for posting, Wargaming. Большое спасибо

A year after the PQ 17 debacle, Admiral Dudley Pound died of a brain tumor. Which probably had quite a lot to do with his inexplicable decision to withdraw the escorts and order the convoy to scatter.

Im sure it is. I believe it was stated in a Q&A that the Halloween escort gamemode was a test of several game mechanics they were planning to implement. Im going to guess they were A) Shore installations which debuted shortly before and B) a convoy escort gametype. Something they tinkered with in WoT as well

This is pretty amazing. People need to realized that their enemy during the Cold War was once their ally that help and fought alongside them. It doesnt matter if youre a Democratic person, a Monarchist, or a Communist. In the Arctic Convoy, you fought side by side with each other to defeat a common enemy. That is why this video was amazing. It remind us that the people we hate in Eastern Europe was once our allied that needed our help and also helped us.

I always wonder how the man of today would hold in situations such as this... for me all the people who took part in WW1 and WW2 no matter the side are heroes.... I myself would have never been able to accomplish any of the hard work and though situations that these man went trough... I worked on a ship on the Danube repairing and upkeeping buoys... was not easy or safe but it was far far from anything like any of this

As I watch the unloading of those ships I wonder which one of those cranes my grandfather was operating he was in murmansk between 1943 and the end of 1945, operated the floating Samson and atlas crane, he has been previously torpedoed on the Atlantic convoys and survived along with my uncle who was only 16 at the time, the British government sent my grandfather over to Russia for the rest of the war, he continued in the merchant navy until he retired in the 1970s he passed away in 1991 aged 85, rest in peace grandad you are still my hero, the strongest toughest and most gentle man I have a knew 💖💖💖

the other sad thing normal in all Convoys not just artic ones was that they'd never stay behind to rescue sunken crews it would need to be done later. This is because ships in the early stages of the war would be struck trying to rescue crews. So for the maximum safety of the rest of the ships many people we just left there.

@doorcf

The U-Boats normally surfaced to sink a crippled ship with their deck gun when escorts were not present, they also preferred to use their deck guns during the night (but that changed when radar and escort got more common).
@riyoriyote
@riyoriyote 7 жыл бұрын
They also often fired torpedoes when surfaced as well, especially at night, and early war it was one of the most effective tactics. The idea that U-boats only ever engaged while submerged is a misconception.

It worked but we all know that according to the international conventions of war you can only help one side or the other once you have officially declared war yourself, Lend Lease may have made it legal in the US but not internationally, of course the US and Britain are not especially known to give a damn about rules and regulations.
