Not exactly. The leather also keeps you warmer. If it was for the sole purpose of protecting from the sun, it would be made from a different, both lighter and more durable material.

For those wondering those are the Vermont Galcier models from Julbo. I picked up a pair for EDC since I’m very photosensitive. Amazing pair. Very expensive at around 160$ usd as I last checked on Amazon.

I don't plan on climbing MT Everest anytime soon, but those Julbo sunglass frames will be the ideal eye wear for one who plans on having cataract surgery one day in the future.

iSKi Sunglasses had those leather side shields and wrap-around the ear stems. I had some back in the early 80s.

I work at a desk 25% of the time and in the desert around Phoenix 75% of the time. I sweat. These do not budge. I have a custome lens that blocks blue light and protects from the sun's UV.

How would these be for skiing? Do they fog up? Are they impact resistant??

Very good for Skiing - the lenses are hydrophobic which helps to reduce fogging

Whats the advantage over ski googles? Not sure if i could thighten that tiny screw with my gloves on in low temp conditions.

They aren't so tiny. Ski goggles are a lot bulkier to wear

@@thespectaclefactory Yeah but thats an advantage. If its big i can properly grab it with gloves. And it covers more of my face and has a tighter seal against wind from all directions. I could see myself buying them for less extreme winter hiking though But there is no metal part of it touching your face right?

I would say these are made by Julbo. The lenses look larger than the Julbo Vermonts. I have a pair of Vermonts and they really good but the arms and ear wraps on mine fell apart. The Colorado Julbos are my favorite but they’re no longer made.

I think the Julbo glasses with strait ear stems come with cords. The ones with curled ear stems don't need cords.

@dreamship563 i see. Pretty sure the glaciers do not come with the Julbo cord, but you can order different color ones from the website. Just keep in mind, other models have slots the cords snap into... the glaciers do not.

They have some anti-fog as standard, but you could but custom lenses in with additional hydrophobic coatings.

They are to block light. The thing is, wearing super dark lenses will dilate your pupils so any light getting in can be painful in bright conditions. Wind protection is coincidental (but useful) If you want the best I would look at Julbo or Vuarnet for real glass category 4 lenses Cheers
