Je nach geplantem Orbit hätte das u.U tatsächlich mal passieren können - wenn das Shuttle den Aufstieg hätte abbrechen und notlanden müssen, wäre nur eine Landung auf einem Europäischen oder Afrikanischen Flughafen gegangen, weil es sich logischerweise mit Mach 10 von den USA entfernt hätte. there is nothing comparable .... 150,000 working hours, 6 years of construction, 3.5 million Euro construction costs for Knuffingen Airport alone. And that's just a comparatively small part of the rizzy miniature world. More realism is not possible. You can spend hours there and still discover something new.

I remember looking at this on KZbin being like I really want to visit and experience it. And little did I know, that I was going to Wedel (a medium sized town outside of Hamburg) on an exchange trip with my class. I was so thankful that I had the opportunity to witness it. And I would recommend it because you could stare at those planes for hours (and the rest of Mineatur Wünderland)

No it is a giant magnet underneath the airport attracting a mini magnet on the front wheel which is guiding the planes. I don't live in Germany I just saw a documentary of it.

Well its not a magnet that pulls the planes around, but only used as a guideline, because the planes wheels are driven by a electric motor, and they have a rechargable battery in them. And when they get low on power, the plane rides it's self to a loading station, that is out of sight under the airport. the magnetic wire in the roads are hooked up to a computersystem that knows every vehicle or plane, and controls al of them around. i did watch about 100 video's of the maker himself, and to me this is miniatureland on super hi-tech nasa level, because this is scale modeling at the peak of human technoligy.

Depends on how you define "controlling". The airport itself works fully autonomously, it just needs mainternance and a hand to fix issues from time to time, however there are some Special Events (like the STS Emergency Landing I believe) which can be triggered by visitors.

The whole display, which consists of many more parts than only the airport, is controlled by at least 40 computers. Some components have their own controllers and some ships use RC.

If you're still asking the question how is it controlled. The vehicles follow a cable that is under the paint and the takeoff is realized with two bars which hold pull the plane and adjust the angle. It's controlled mainly automatic via a software they coded themselves. Like all other vehicles in the Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg.
